My wife decided to have dinner at Sammy's on our way to the Myerhoff auditorium for a concert. Reservations were made through open table, and though we arrived before our reserved time, our table was ready and the host seated us when we arrived. Our server Martin was attentive as were all of the wait staff. My wife enjoyed the view of the open kitchen from her seat at our table. I had Nonni's ravioli and my wife had the gnocchi with sage mushroom sauce. Both were excellent. The food was fresh, still hot and delicious.
Wonderful atmosphere with efficient waitstaff and delicious dinners.
Despite being understaffed Sammy's delivered quality food and great service. Would recommend.
Service and food were AMAZING!
We had a large party on new years eve and the staff, food, and experience could not have been better.
We went for a pre show dinner on New Year’s Eve. We had a great experience! We had a reservation and we’re seated immediately. The server was right there for our drink order and were served promptly. Fresh warm bread was served. The dinner menu had several choices. I ordered the chicken francese, it was excellent! Served with a side of rigatoni with marinara sauce that was perfect. My wife ordered the seafood pasta and loved it. The service was friendly and efficient. The dining room was well staffed. We can’t wait to go back for other Italian classic dishes!
Great Christmas Eve dinner. Staff was short but performed wonderfully. Great drinks from Paulie. Food was excellent as always.
Everything was wonderful. The restaurant was busy and the service and food were great as always. Love the espresso martini! And Amanda helped us with another reservation.
Was there pre show and kitchen was not ready for influx. We got our entrees an hour after we ordered and they knew we had a show to get too. We ended up eating in 10 minutes a meal we should have had 30 minutes or more to enjoy. Was a shame for it was delicious.
They took one drink off the bill- not much of a compensation
The food was outstanding! Loved the cozy, romantic atmosphere and the good service. They were very good about getting the people out that were attending the Theater.
Sammy's is consistent. It has great food, wines, cocktails and courteous service. I've been coming here for years and will continue to do so. One of Baltimore's best Italian restaurants that lots of people don't know about (unless you are part of the theatre crowd).
The food was great. The service was very good.
My waitress was very rude. I believe her name started with a V but she was an older lady. She had a very bad attitude over the phone and tried to request a $100 deposit from me after I already made the reservations. I find that completely unacceptable because that was not in the agreement when I first made my reservations. When I told her I will not be paying that she said she understood where I was coming from but that was utterly ridiculous and unprofessional.
We celebrated our anniversary at Sammys. It’s a great neighborhood restaurant with clearly homemade food. We had pasta which was outstanding. Only disappointment was the dirty martini I ordered. Not dirty at all. And the olives were mushy and almost dissolved when put in my mouth.
We go to Sammy's every year for our team dinner. They take great care of us and the food is ALWAYS delicious. This year it was my boss' birthday, and they sang to him in Italian! Such a wonderful evening.
Excellent food and a nice setting for a romantic date.
We like to come to town and to Sammy's to enjoy the evening out as part of our Christmas tradition. Thank you for a nice experience
The pasta dishes were fantastic! Bartender was arguing loudly with a patron which was uncomfortable. I took my entire staff for Christmas and wish it would have been higher class. Owner is second to none.
Great neighborhood Italian place. Very comfortable atmosphere and delicious food.
Great food ,Great drinks, service was amazing!
Wonderful dinner before a concert. Excellent drinks
Great service, great food and fabulous time. Looking forward to my next visit!
We were not told or it did not mention that on a "show night" they only have a "show menu". Disappointing as the dishes we were excited to order were not available due to a concern of getting people in and out. While I can appreciate the fact they are attempting to assist in people not missing the show - they should put this kind of information on their web site to let people know not all items are available on these nights. Disappointing...........
We ate at Sammy's before a performance at the Lyric. Pasta was delicious - and healthy servings! We did a mixed salad for the table primarily because we were "on a clock" - enough for seconds all around, with a tasty dressing.
Warning: our reservations were at 5, in a desire to not have to rush to our 8 PM performance. By 6, the place was packed, and then it was hard to catch our server's attention. We did get out in time, and the Lyric is just a 5-min walk from Sammy's.
For those with COVID concerns: we were surprised that very few staff members were masked, even those in what I think was the open kitchen (or maybe it was a prep area - either way....). Tables were pretty close.
Food was as genuine as Little Italy. Service was good but we waited a while for our meal. Got the check quickly and made it to our show at the Lyric on time.
So.... I will start this by giving them the benefit of the doubt. We've dined here quite often and this is the first time I've had a below average experience. We will return in the future, but I do hope our next time falls in line with our previous experiences.
I made reservations a full 2 hours before show time. Sammy's is very popular for those that want a nice dinner before a show at the Lyric. I've been rushed in the past because of booking a shorter dining experience.
We were seated right away and our waitress offered to help with the wine selection. She recommended a bottle that was cheaper than I was leaning towards, and she was right. That was the best part of the evening. Our appetizer was good and then a different waitress came to take our order and she was clearly overwhelmed. The place was busy at this point and I don't know if she was new, having a bad day, or something else, but she very much rushed us through our dinner order. We ordered our dinner at 6:04. I only know this because my phone rang while she was at the table. A few minutes later, our actual waitress returned to confirm our order and it wasn't correct. My wife and I were on a date night and the wine was flowing, so we lost track of the time and then noticed a table that was seated after us, order taken after us, were finished their dinner and getting their check. It was 7:10. I asked our waitress when our dinner would be ready and we were told "yours is up next." ......But it wasn't. 4 other tables were served before we got our dinner at 7:18. The show we had tickets for started at 7:30. The unfortunate events did not end here. My order was wrong. My Filet was over cooked and I didn't receive my correct side dish. At this point, I just wanted to eat and get out of there. The waitress brought my correct side dish literally as we were getting up to leave.
Sammys, you can do better. You've done so in the past. We will return, but this night was not your best showing.
We arrived at 6 pm and had tickets to an 8 pm show. The restaurant was empty and they still could not deliver our food. Our entree did not arrive until 7:20; after having reminded the waitress several times that we had an 8:00 show. So we spent $100 for just the two of us, and had to basically shove the food into our mouths, pay the bill while we were eating, and then rush to the show.
Outstanding food and service! Everything was prepared by the chef to perfection. The staff was very attentive. Our table of four were extremely happy with the experience at Sammy's and consider it a top Italian restaurant. We drove up from Severna Park.
Sammy’s is a GEM! Make a reservation bc it’s a neighborhood & theatre favorite.
Family was visiting for the long holiday weekend and we made last minute reservations here. The restaurant blew is away. The food is spectacular, the staff is kind as can be, and we had the cozy basement all to ourselves. We'll be back regularly for dinner now. Love this place!!!
Loved our hostess Giselle and her sister. What a lovely pair of humans. They made our night PLUS the food was INSANE!!
We were going to see an 8pm show at The Lyric so we reserved a table for 6pm at Sammy’s (according to their website stating to book 2 hours in advance). When bread didn’t come out for 25 minutes, I knew we were in trouble. By 7:45pm our dinner was still not out. We had to leave. They completely overbooked the space and were severely understaffed. I felt bad for our server as she had 12+ tables herself and had to take on all of the complaints.
Unfortunately, most of the customers were in the same boat as us, so everyone had to leave before even getting their dinner. I had never experienced anything quite like it. It’s a shame because the appetizers were good and I know the entrees would have been too.
As always everything was great
Excellent dinner! We were having dinner before a show, prices were very reasonable, and we had the linguini with clams and penne alla vodka sauce with shrimp. Very tasty, and large portions. The Sally Salad was awesome and great to split between the two of us. It was a very busy time but service was attentive and congenial. Open floor plan, so it can be a bit noisy but a good place for large groups. It was our first visit and we will be back!!
Sammy’s never disappoints! Food was 5 star! A must go when we visit Baltimore
They had my friend Marcus Dagan at the piano - wonderful. Selection of beer and wine - marginal. Beef Carpaccio - excellent. Fried calamari - good. Seafood Diavolo - way too spicy and the calamari in it was tough, so just okay. (I guess the diavolo = diablo = devil = hot should have been a warning.)
There was too much confusion upon arrival regarding who had reservations and where diners would be seated. The food was good, as was the wait staff. The noise level is a problem as is the closeness of the tables. Masks seem superfluous when seated literally within inches of others. But, overall, we enjoyed the meal and the proximity of the restaurant to the Meyerhoff concert hall.
Took an hour to get served. Too many customers for the staffing. Not advised if going to BSO unless you want to eat at 5-30pm.
It's been a while since we've been here and we went for my daughter's birthday as her old favorite closed last year. The food was great as was the service. We will be back.
Food was excellent. The kitchen got really backed up because they were short staffed and I think our ticket got lost but the restaurant was wonderful about making accommodations and acknowledging that it was a very long wait. It wouldn’t stop me from going again because it was excellent and you can tell they stand by their product. Dining in COVID requires patience and kindness, and ultimately we ate a delicious meal, so no real complaints here. Pasta was perfectly cooked and everything we had was perfectly seasoned and hot.
