Waitstaff was very accommodating and understanding. Nice venue for Thai food.
First it was uncomfortably cold on a cold and windy day with cold air blowing from the heat vents.
The hot and tasty soup helped but it turned tepid before we could finish. Sadly the papaya salad was mediocre — bland and tasteless and needed more of everything. The cauliflower Manchurian was crispy but that’s it. No taste to it. Same with the curry puff filling.
Disappointed as we were expecting a tasty meal. $90 for two with tax and tip for lunch for mediocrity was
Great food. Went because of Hudson Valley Restaurant week but not valid on a Sunday. Regardless beautiful view of the Tapanzee Bridge s as Ms Hudson River. Great service with the delicious food
Food was great, cozy warm atmosphere. Service was very slow(probably due to difficulty finding staff), but also very courteous.
The welcoming...the service and food was amazing. My husband and I are looking forward to returning. Awesome Friday Night
We loved the food and everything else. The service was outstanding and the decor authentic.
TERRIBLE experience at lunch. Food was OK at best, but it’s the nasty attitude of the waiter. He was DISHONEST from the beginning. Didn’t want to give us the Hudson Valley restaurant week menu, that they were participating in. Pretended we had the menu. I had to keep asking in order to get one. we ordered pad Thai off the regular menu and a chicken and basil dish from Restaurant week menu. My girlfriend has three bites of the pad Thai, and declared it was too dry. My basil chicken was very bland, had almost no flavor except for the hot chilies. Service was terrible! There we’re only four tables seated the entire time we were there.
When we got the food courses, they never cleared the plates from the course before. At one point, we had entree plates on the table when dessert arrived! There was no room so we started stacking the dishes, Plus wine and mojito glasses that were empty.
When my friend ordered wine, she pointed on the menu to the first in the list for nine dollars, a California red. When we received the bill, she had three glasses and we were charge $45 for her wine. She was charged for the Rodney Strong brand.
Listen, mistakes happen, so we called the waiter over.
It was his attitude that was horrible and very telling.
She simply said,”this is wrong I ordered the California red”. He didn’t say a word, stared at us for a minute and walked inside.
When he came back, he had a nasty look on his face and he was mad. He put the bill on the table and stood there glaring at us. If looks could kill!
When he saw we weren’t jumping to pay it, he walked away, Never saying anything. There was no “I’m sorry,” or “Ive fixed it, here you go”. We could tell by his response, that it was intentionally done.
He definitely did it on purpose and was annoyed that we caught him.
When we left, he was inside and we had to pass him. There was no “thank you”, “come again, “or anything, he just glared at us. A horrible first and last experience!
I really wanted this place to be good because I heard a lot of good things about it. It was my birthday, so I thought it would be fun to try someplace new. I was disappointed As soon as we walked in, the young woman who greeted us was unmasked. Service was amateurish. Food was mediocre. Our server didn't even ask us if we wanted dessert and coffee, he simply handed us the bill. Weird. Ambiance was cool, however.
Excellent food and vegan options. Good service though I wish staff wore masks.
Sambal was a great! our waiter made conversation post meal asking if it was our first time, etc. the ambience was great, quiet, it reminded me of Morocco vibe. I would recommend their food! everything was well cooked, clean utensils, great flavors, quick service and great customer service. Highly recommend.
Food was great- service was poor. 3-4 employees standing at the bar, some on their phone, had to grab their attention repeatedly for service. Restaurant was maybe 25% full. Will try again because food was great but hope service improves
Food was well made and tasty. Music being played was inappropriate at times
Outstanding Thai/Asian cuisine!
We have enjoyed Thai cuisine from Bangkok to Paris to all over the US. Samba was disappointing. Additionally, the service was inattentive. Any request took overly long to be filled, even on a night that was not busy. A disappointing experience.
The food at this restaurant is absolutely delicious. We enjoyed everything we ordered so much and our waiter was very attentive. It was a beautiful Sunday and we sat on the patio with water views. We ordered the roti with a delicious dipping sauce, the crispy cauliflower, vegetable red curry and the mock duck with vegetables. We will definitely be returning for another amazing meal.
Terrific curry. Nice view and weather
Let me start by saying
Probably the worst server I’ve ever had. Drinks came out after appetizers, second round of drinks took a half hour to come. My food was cold and when I told him he didn’t try to fix it or even apologize. Could not find manager to speak to
The waiter didn’t wear a mask. The food is just OK.
One of the worst experiences at a restaurant so far. Service was nonexistent, even for the amount of people at tables. Food was subpar at best. Food was also expensive for the quality. Just a super sad dinner. There are far better Thai options within a 20 min drive. Also I have no idea how this place won best of for 2021. Honestly, just stay away from this place, you will be better off.
Second time at Sambal, love the ambience with the stunning views of the Hudson at sunset.
Interesting menu choices with a mix of Indian, Malay and Thai choices. We loved the tofu dish as well as the roti kanai and the traditional Thai curries. The right level of spice !
The deck can be noisy and a little densely packed but worth it with the view! Don’t forget to finish your dinner and walk down to the water to get pictures of the sparkling Cuomo bridge or the Manhattan skyline on a clear night.
Avoid! We ate here when it first opened and were not impressed. We decided to give it another chance recently as there are not many options for outdoor dining during the pandemic. Although they have a nice rooftop location with views of the Hudson river, everything else about this place is awful. Watered-down drinks, tasteless food, and very high prices. We have eaten Thai food many times all over the world and this place ranks dead last! Steer clear, there are so many better dining options in Westchester!
Excellent food and service. We’ve ordered delivery from here a bunch of times and finally dined out on their patio tonight with our toddler for the first time, and they were phenomenal at accommodating us every step of the way. It was also a birthday celebration which they provided a nice touch with a song and cake at the end. Beautiful view of the water from the patio - great ambience. Highly recommend!
Excellent cuisine and service. Fantastic view across the Hudson, and of the Tap. Would recommend highly!
Great evening on the deck w good food/drinks and live music!
Everything we ordered was delicious and the river views from the deck were wonderful. Massaman noodles and curry were exceptional, great recommendations from our host. I will go back.
Food was terrific and dining outdoors was fantastic. Service was very slow that evening - has been better in the past.
Great Thai Food! always make it a point to stop when in the area!!
We shared the Cauliflower Manchurianand the spring roll appetizers, which were both very tasty. The spring rolls came with three pieces, but the waiter offered to add a fourth to our order (which we paid for) without being asked. Good customer service. Our entrees were Pad Thai with duck, Chicken Rendang, Nyonya Mixed Veggies with chicken, and Pad See Ew with “mock” duck. All were flavorful- some heat but not too much. We will definitely eat at Sambal again.
We usually go to a couple of the surrounding area restaurants but it was such a lovely night to see the sunset, we finally tried Sambal. The apps were excellent and my partners chicken thigh dish was spicy enough. The views are perfect, and as an added bonus, there was live jazz ! We will definitely return.
The food was ok, nothing that I went whoa this is delicious!
Had the curry puffs and the cauliflower appetizers which were better than the main entree. The mango chicken was good, the fried noodles with chicken and it was meh (wouldn’t order it again). However, the service was very good, the location is perfect with the view of the Hudson River during sunset and the restaurant looks very nice. I’ll give another try but definitely order different dishes.
Great authentic food!!!!!!
The service was horrendous and the food was average at best. The only value was sitting outside and enjoying the beautiful view.
Nice view and good food. Gathering with friends at the rooftop, where we could enjoy Hudson River view. We had a good time there and will definitely go back. I do recommend to others.
Many thanks for your lovely feedback
Drinks came out after the appetizer.... main course came out during appetizers. Very rushed but nice views
This is a beautiful place to eat outside and take in views of the Hudson River while eating delicious and healthy food.
We really appreciate your valuable feedback Thank you
Good Thai food, but I had higher expectations since I saw this was voted best Thai in Westchester. Also thought there would be more Malay, Singaporean and Indonesian dishes. Chili crab and beef (not chicken) rendang anyone? Would go again just for the view though. Would be nicer if they could do something to cover the parking lot, but that's probly on the landlord or the town
We had been to Sambal several times and it was always a great experience This time we brought some new friends to introduce them to Thai food. They really liked it
Great food and service. Appetizers, noodle and rice were delicious.
The restaurant was empty but for 2 other tables. They had full staff. We were celebrating my 30th birthday and my wedding two days prior. The restaurant forgot our order, served other tables first, never took any action to apologize, and didn’t even offer any sort of contrition at all. Also never really refilled waters, took orders. Etc The staff, kitchen, and management have no idea what they’re doing. The food is dry, and honestly not that good. It’s Thai food; but you can get better Thai food anywhere. The food here is fine, and each plate is like $17 and you have to pay $2 extra for even chicken. So add that with their terrible service even on an empty Monday night (yet, with a full staff) this is a restaurant that will probably die out within a year.
