Saly G's Restaurant & Tavern Ratings and Reviews
This was the 2nd time we've been to Saly G's. Our first time, the food was delicious so we recommended it as well as decided to return with our family members. Food this time was salty and the grilled trio was more like charred trio. Now I don't know which time was a fluke, the good or the bad experience.
Always a great meal at Saly G's. Once again on a Saturday night we found ourselves without plans for an early dinner. Made a quick Opentable and had another great meal. My son had the skirt steak Saturday night special, my wife had the special Cod, and I had an old standby, chicken modo nosto. All very tasty, and their drinks are great.
We were a party of five. Three of us had pasta dishes which were excellent and two of us had salmon salad. There was one soup dish served and that was enjoyable and two of us had Caesar salads which were unremarkable but certainly not oversauced, a definite plus. A bit more anchovy would have been appreciated. I had a delicious margarita and another member had Lillet which I was unfamiliar with but the sip I had would lead me to try it in the future. The only problem we encountered was some difficulty in making ourselves understood to the waiter whose English was not perfect. He was most accommodating but it was a bit of a struggle, and my wife's salad was so heavily lemony, she couldn't eat it. It should have been sent back and replaced as I'm sure it would have been no trouble. After all it was arugula, not 12 oz of filet mignon. All in all, it was a most delightful meal. This was my third visit and every one of them has been most enjoyable. This is an excellent restaurant and easily accessible. I'm looking forward to number four
A few days ago we had a very nice dinner at a nearby restaurant which is constantly listed as one of the top 10 restaurants in New Jersey. The food and service were excellent, and the tab was about $400 for three of us (only two having drinks). The food was very good, but not "A+" food. On the way home, my wife said to me, "I always enjoy eating there, but to be honest, I think the food at Saly G's might be better."
To try it out, we had dinner Sunday night at Saly G's. And my wife was right. The food IS BETTER at Saly G's! We had a salad, an app, and three entrees from the regular menu. All of them were fantastic. My son's steak was better at SG's than at the "Top 10" restaurant. My wife's Cosmopolitans were better. It was a great meal, at about half the price. Service was great.
Saly G's food is very, very good.
Restaurant was not busy at all. Ordered a pre dinner cocktail and a pasta dish. Got the drink and was only on the first sip when the meal arrived. wanted to enjoy my drink before dinner and order a glass of wine. Knew if I sent it back it would just sit there until I was ready. Felt very rushed . Maybe if it was crowded, I might understand but there were only 4other tables and reservation was 7 pm. Go figure. We were paying the bill in 45 minutes. Won't go for dinner anymore...maybe lunch...
We go about every week during the week mostly, as Saly G's is in our town, and the restaurant that has the same kitchen as the wonderful deli (A and G) that we get take out from often. Service is so professional and food is always fabulous. First class italian food. Good portions (not overly big like some italian places, and not tiny like the trendy spots....just right and hardy). Great wines by the glass, and a full bar. Great eggplant caponata, olives and crusty bread served when you sit down. Sometimes zeppoles right out of the fryer available!
Very happy to dine at Saly G's. It's become like home (but better food).
Food was great! Ate at bar, it was empty. Bartender was very nice but slow, we had to ask for more water, ask for our wine to be put on ice, he did allow a taste before the full pour, he left the bottle uncorked. He just needs a little training. And why is betty boop on the walls of a classy place?
Food is great! The Gnudi was thrilling! The service is efficient and friendly. The atmosphere is relaxed and cool. A very nice wine selection (Get the Musella, Ripasso) with great value and they save the best for last there's a pleasant surprise after dinner that was the best part of the meal.
Our latest favorite restaurant! The very accommodating staff and kitchen have not cooked a bad meal in the three months that we've been coming almost weekly! Great menu with a lot of variety. Whether it's the fish or seafood or steaks or specials, it's always excellent. I was disappointed in Mothers Day as they sold out of the halibut special but I had a really good NY Strip Steak. We end every meal with the complimentary zeppoles; freshly made, hot and covered with powdered sugar, and decaf cappuccino.
Yummmmmmm! Professional staff. Good bar. And it's right in my town!!!
We've been to Sally G's numerous times and the food, service and ambiance is already very good. You get real value for your buck here. Our only gripe is the music. Often you can just barely hear yourselves in conversation as the music and the singer they have can be distracting.
Very professional staff, food is excellent great quality you can taste the fresh ingredients. Chef came to check on us after entrees we're served which was a very nice touch! Steaks are above average better then most steakhouses, my clients were very impressed and this will be my go to for a business meeting, very accommodating and a wonderful time.
My husband & I were excited about trying this restaurant after having been referred by a friend. Unfortunately, we were not as excited after our dinner. The wine list does not include dates for any of its bottles, so we had to ask. Anyone who knows wine wants to know what year is being offered. The Saly G shrimp appetizer was bathed in a spicy marinara sauce - enough to sop up on a piece of bread. Clams casino appetizer consisted of 6 tiny (littleneck) clams and could have been hotter, and could have included maybe 2 more clams for the $9 charge. Our main courses were a NY strip steak, prepared to taste, and the veal Sorrentina, which also could have been served hotter. We asked for the fried zucchini appetizer to be served with our main courses, and it was, but really, 6 small slices of zucchini for $11? I can't really recommend this restaurant enthusistically.
Food and service were both above average. we had Calamari and Clam appetizers followed up with Orechiette and Sunday Gravy Main courses.. also ordered sides of broccoli rabe and long hot peppers. The restaurant was mostly empty when we got there around 5:15 on a Sunday except for a table with a loud child. Fortunateley they left not long after our arrival. there was another table near us with children but they were very well behaved.
