About Salut Bar Americain - St. Paul
Salut Bar Americain - St. Paul is the brasserie down the block. Warm and welcoming, with an urbane wit and urban sensibility, it’s an afternoon hangout and an evening refuge. It’s your neighbor with a French accent. The setting evokes a classic Parisian bistro/restaurant. The service is spirited, confident and capably executed. And the cooking captures the freshness and hearty flavor of French cuisine. It’s the vibe inside that sets Salut apart from bowing maitre ‘d’s and sniffing sommeliers. From the welcoming wine list, to the playful décor, to the genial buzz in the dining room, and two Event Spaces, Salut celebrates the French restaurant’s essential qualities while dispensing with the exclusionary ones. It demystifies French food by making it accessible and rewarding while poking fun at the stereotypes that surround it. In this sense, Salut is a dual citizen: Authentically French! Book the Le Grand Boeuf family-style feast, serving 8-10 people.

Salut Bar Americain - St. Paul Ratings and Reviews
My dining experience was delightful. We sat outside for lunch and enjoyed the crips fall day. Seating outside was generous and the tables were not too close. Although sitting neare the street would have more traffic noise. So I requesed closer to the enterance.
It appeared to be a slow wednesday however our courses were very slow. We had a good first course but our entree was not cooked well and both my husband and I sent ours back. Also it was very underseasoned and bland. Our waitress was very nice and we were given a desert but it took forever for our deserts. We were given lots of excuses but we paid a lot for poor food and very slow service. We will not be returning.
There is not much value for the price. My wife and I both had steaks - you get potatoes with you steak and that's it, unless you pay extra for a side dish (like a veggie). The steaks were cooked well, to a proper temperature, were reasonably tender, but not very exciting.
The server was friendly, but she had too many tables which made her slow and inattentive. We waited for quite a while for refills, dishes to be removed and the check.
This is the third time we have eaten here, the other visits we had sandwiches...we've decided if we return, we will not be having steaks.
This was our first visit to the restaurant. Though it was too cold to sit outside we like the outdoor seating area for future reference. The service was ok. We felt rushed by the waitress but otherwise she was good. The food was pretty god. The special that night the bouillabaisse was very good but very spendy. We would not have ordered it if we knew how much it was.
The shrimp pizza was good. The chicken club was tasty but the bread was gummy and made it hard to eat.
We read such favorable reviews of the restaurant that we have been wanting to go. Brought our daughter who is at one of local universities in the area. We were not blown away. Food ok, restaurant ok, service ok, but nothing memorable or fantastic. Cannot exactly put it into words but nothing--food/service/restaurant/ is wonderful, or different. Like dining at Applebees with double the bill. Daughter who is extremely price aware, college student after all, rolled her eyes at prices but said nothing. Would not go back nor would we recommend it. Nothing bad to say or a horrible experience but for price and a dinner out would deffinately go to other restaurants in the area that offer more.
The service was a little too fast--we had no starters and our prime rib was brought out almost immediately--but otherwise service was very good. The food was very good. There was so much of it that our college daughter had enough leftovers to feed her housemates. That's not a plus, but it's typical for the Midwest. The garlic potatoes and sauteed green beans were perfectly French. Very good bread pudding. There was a groom's party in an adjacent, partly closed-off area, but the group's noise was not intrusive at all. We will return to Salut when we visit our daughter.
Enjoyable evening. We sat outdoors & enjoyed the hot spot ambience. Friends ribeye was excellent. Our pasta dish was appreciated as it was NOT smothered in cream & therefore appealed to this diet conscious diner.
Would definitely stop by again. Wine we selected was good for the house red "good" option.
Overall the food and menu were both very good. The service was a bit slow. They were not prepared for a show at Xcel so everyone was eating at the same time. The steak was so very tender and the optional boats were great. Dessert was very good as well. The fires were good but not as good at touted. I like fries with Gorgonzola, bleu cheese or ranch better than Bearnaise.
The atmosphere is undoubtably Vibrant and friendly, the ambience made us feel we were back in France. My tuna dish was prepared the way i like it and my wifes Seafood crepe was delicious. Our Cream Puff desert satisfied our sweet tooth. However, my wife did not care for the Latte so we both had cups of coffee.
We felt inspired by their menu selections. We will definitely sample them next time.
Generally excellent food and wine. The pomme frittes with Bernaise sauce and salmon were particularly good. The only minor drawback was that the dressing on the Panzanella salad was a little heavy. The red flight provides a nice, affordable overview of wines. The different courses weren't always spaced out well, but the waiter apologized for that. It is not the most romantic setting (at least in the large dining room in which we were sitting), but it is still a pleasant place to enjoy a great meal.
A great experience! We were a party of 7 for lunch and two of the 7 were children. The service was excellent. Our server saw to the needs of the youngsters and was friendly without being pushy. It was obvious that he had a child of his own. The luncheon menu was full of very interesting items. I settled on a chicken sandwich with avocado on ciabatta which was scrumptious.
We'll definitely return.
The food was good and the service was excellent. We had only two small complaints. First, the food was a bit slow to arrive. However, the waitress came out a few times to let us know why it was late and to apologize. Second, there was a small bone in my seafood crepes. Other than that, though, it was a great experience.
We all ordered different steaks and all three were very tender and tasty. The meal came wt choice of potatoes: mashed or french fries. The mashed potatoes were heaping in a dish - too much. Would have preferred an alternative choice of salad or soup. We had the red velvet cake for dessert and that was excellent.
