About Salut Bar Americain - St. Paul
Salut Bar Americain - St. Paul is the brasserie down the block. Warm and welcoming, with an urbane wit and urban sensibility, it’s an afternoon hangout and an evening refuge. It’s your neighbor with a French accent. The setting evokes a classic Parisian bistro/restaurant. The service is spirited, confident and capably executed. And the cooking captures the freshness and hearty flavor of French cuisine. It’s the vibe inside that sets Salut apart from bowing maitre ‘d’s and sniffing sommeliers. From the welcoming wine list, to the playful décor, to the genial buzz in the dining room, and two Event Spaces, Salut celebrates the French restaurant’s essential qualities while dispensing with the exclusionary ones. It demystifies French food by making it accessible and rewarding while poking fun at the stereotypes that surround it. In this sense, Salut is a dual citizen: Authentically French! Book the Le Grand Boeuf family-style feast, serving 8-10 people.

Salut Bar Americain - St. Paul Ratings and Reviews
My guest was seated at a four top. I joined her and immediately I found the chair to be extremely uncomfortable. I asked to be moved and we were moved to a booth. Our special occassion was missed. No one acknowledged the birthday we were celebrating., although I included it with my reservation.
Four of us met on Saturday evening for a meal. The salmon dish was best. The walleye was okay but tasted like it was previously pan fried then reheated. The chicken hot but dry. The bouillabaisse was good. All of us tried the cauliflower side and agreed it was just okay. We would try another Grand Ave restaurant in the future.
As always, Salut is and has been for awhile now, a wonderful restaurant. My husband and I have gone their quite often and always appreciate the service and food. The wait staff is always friendly and professional with excellent service, and the food speaks for itself...fabulous!!
Fabulous place to go to celebrate. Service is excellent--all of the wait staff are there to make sure you have a great time. Celebrating something special, order "the bulge"-- a decadent dessert served in a giant martini glass with lit sparklers. Great for sharing with a table of friends. Food is delicious, service fantastic. Perfect place to go for something special!
We were celebrating our son and his girlfriends' college graduation plus meeting her parents for the first time and we were having a wonderful time, great food and service, fun drinks, and really impressive dessert and we were just getting ready to leave when a patron from another table came over and said, "I just can't take it any more, you people are so rude"!! He kept going on and on and my son got up and said, "we are just having a good time, mind your own business". The manager handled this very wrong; if we were being that disruptive, he should've come over long before this customer felt he had to deal with it, and asked us to quiet down; we are not unreasonable people. We were leaving anyway for crying out loud! Then on the way out one of the hostesses said to my husband, "you should be ashamed of yourselves"!! WHY?? And then a pregnant bus girl called her boyfriend (who must've lived nearby) and he came over to the parking lot and threatened my husband saying, "What are saying to my girl, I can take you out, I can take you out old man"! Really?! And then, to top it off, the manager gives our friends at our table a business card and a $50 gift card apologizing for us?! What the heck?! That makes no sense whatsoever!! Wow...we will never set foot in this place again. I would like to speak to the Owner about this situation please. Our only crime was having too much fun and management not managing. Unprofessional to say the least.
I enjoy both Salut locations... I like the St. Paul version a bit more - much better outdoor patio, and the space has more windows/light than the Edina location. Food is good and most of the time reliable. My Croque Madame was good, but whoever was in the kitchen overcooked the eggs and was way too heavy handed with smothering it with cheese... similar to a child's pizza.
Other than that, the overall experience was great. Service is always polished... highly recommended.
We have never been to a French restaurant. before, and wanted to try this out. It really didn't seem French at all. The food was very very good. We all enjoyed it. Our server was laid back, nice, but not overall friendly or personable. The noise level was loud. The place was very clean. The food came out fairly slow, but was worth the wait. The wait people all seemed very busy and working together. The parking is a nightmare!!!
Mother's Day. Everything was great. My only issue was we were unaware it was a special brunch and could not order off the menu. The server was very accommodating w my 97 year old grandma who doesn't eat much and w a big BBQ at our house for dinner I felt I couldn't enjoy all the yummy foods they had to offer. I wish all my issues were this complicated! Really did enjoy all aspects of the day. We'll be back!
Excellent Mother's Day Brunch! We sat outside on a beautiful day. The tables were very close together -difficult to move around for our elderly member in the group- there was shady space, but borderline too sunny. The service was very pleasant, but on the slower side due to the volume. They could have used an extra server or two for the day. The menu was GREAT; plenty of lovely food and choices for all. The giant shrimp cocktail was especially good. Again, the distance from buffet to seating and the close quarters was hard for disabled or elderly patrons. We enjoyed the day and will come again for brunch with out of town guests this summer.

An outdoor patio table on the first sunny 80-degree of the spring season, umbrellas unfurled, pansies in bloom - a perfect setting for a reunion lunch with good friends.
Our meals were beautifully prepared and plated, departing from the expected with a creative twist.. Our server, Kyle, was at the top of his game never missing a beat replenishing disappearing beverages, always with a pleasant comment. All of the service staff were pleasant and helpful. Bravo!
I used to come here at least twice a month. This was the first time after a year because the last experience was a disaster. It still sells itself as a French-ish bistro, but neither the food nor the service was anything like. The black pepper sauce for the steak was lumpy and the pommes frites were burnt to a crisp. I sat at the bar and nobody was checking the quality of anything coming out of there.
We sat on the patio for dinner. They have a very nice patio. The food was not great. The French fries looked like leftovers from lunch! The bread of the salmon tartine was mushy and overall the entree lacked flavor. Also, we waited a long time for our food; our waiter said the kitchen was swamped and running 50 min. It was a beautiful evening and we enjoyed the patio experience and our drinks so the evening wasn't a disaster just wished the food was better.
This was our first time to Salut, and it certainly won't be our last. Service was exceptional, even with a HUGE Prom party and separate 40 person party, the two of us felt just as important, thanks to our server, Jennifer who was fantastic. Food matched the service. We can't wait to go back, especially to enjoy the patio, looks like a blast.
Salut is a great choice for a casual but decent meal. We got together at their Grand Avenue location on a Friday night, and reservations meant we did not have to sit at the bar for a long time. The service was excellent, the burgers tasty, the noise a little more than I usually like, but expectable for a Friday evening. Salut is a little pricey for what it is, but it offers great food, service and ambiance.
I went to Salut for a girls night. The drinks and the food were amazing. Ask for Jenna to be your server, she's phenomenal! She went out of her way to make us feel like welcome guests. Her recommendations were spot on. I loved the scallops! Do not leave without ordering desserts. I'll be back to try their brunch
