About Salut Bar Americain - St. Paul
Salut Bar Americain - St. Paul is the brasserie down the block. Warm and welcoming, with an urbane wit and urban sensibility, it’s an afternoon hangout and an evening refuge. It’s your neighbor with a French accent. The setting evokes a classic Parisian bistro/restaurant. The service is spirited, confident and capably executed. And the cooking captures the freshness and hearty flavor of French cuisine. It’s the vibe inside that sets Salut apart from bowing maitre ‘d’s and sniffing sommeliers. From the welcoming wine list, to the playful décor, to the genial buzz in the dining room, and two Event Spaces, Salut celebrates the French restaurant’s essential qualities while dispensing with the exclusionary ones. It demystifies French food by making it accessible and rewarding while poking fun at the stereotypes that surround it. In this sense, Salut is a dual citizen: Authentically French! Book the Le Grand Boeuf family-style feast, serving 8-10 people.

Salut Bar Americain - St. Paul Ratings and Reviews
Food was delicious as always. However, was disappointed that they now charge for bread. Would recommend the seafood oscar crêpes, creamy hash, and cappuccinos. The bread is worth paying for (the whipped butter is great), but it was definitely better when it was gratuit.
We have had both business lunches there as well as a great place for a get together with friends and it never disappoints. The food is consistently delicious (although my quiche was a bit small) and the service is second to none. We also find the prices to be fair for the food quality. Once again, we enjoyed our visit there.
The food and atmosphere at Salut is fabulous. It was our second visit, and it was, again, delightful. The food is special, delicious, and worth the money. The scene is pleasant, quiet, and comfortable. We really appreciate Salut because it is the full package - it does not disappoint!
Eight of us met for a post-holiday lunch. Great service. Everyone loved their selection. Many excellent and affordable menu options. Includes great baguette. Easy to talk. Not loud. In the summer, the patio is wonderful. I also know the Happy Hour is a good value. Reservations are good to have. Staff is very accommodating
Guess it was an “Off” night. The dining room was not busy, yet the staff seemed to struggle to keep up.It appeared there was little communication between staff members. Our orders were confused upon delivery to the table(the diners had to direct the plate service),the Bernaise was not delivered to the table and additional bread that was requested was ignored. It was just a lazy effort(uncharacteristic).
unfortunately, our order was not entered or it was misplaced if it was entered. Other tables who were seated after us were finishing up their dinner by the time we got our food. The server did not tell us what happened but instead avoided us. We did not receive any sort of discount. My advice to the server (having been a server for many years) is to at least inform your table of what happened and go to the Manager to see if there is any concession available for the customers. The absolute worst thing to do is to avoid your customers without any explanation. I really enjoyed the restaurant, however, and will definitely come again.
We have enjoyed Salut, in both the Edina and St. Paul locations, more times than I can count. For the last four years, we have picked Salut St. Paul for our New Years Eve dinner. We've enjoyed it, until this year. The space seemed more cramped than usual (it was very busy), and it was drafty. We even changed seating locations, but it didn't help much. Three of us picked standard items from the menu, but I picked the special, which was an 8oz filet (I ordered medium rare) with a lobster and crab sauce with fried asparagus and scalloped potatoes. This is where things went down hill. The first filet came out medium well, so I sent it back. By the time the replacement came, the family was done with their meals, which were quite good. The leftovers were boxed up and everyone was ready to go. The replacement steak was perfect and the sauce was quite good. I ate two or three bites and boxed it up to take home with the rest. They didn't charge me for the single glass of wine, which didn't really compensate for the interruption the overcook steak caused in the whole experience of our meal and time together. If I'm going to spend over $200 on a meal for four, everything should be right the first time. We'll probably eat at Salut again, esp. for lunch, but we'll probably think about other options for dinner in the future. The wait staff did a great job and were pleasant throughout the night.
I was there in the evening on New Year's Eve. 630pm. Seated right away. Nice table. Extremely loud. Couldn't talk to my wife. Food was on expensive side My seafood stew. Boolliabais was not seasoned at all. Tasted like water. I needed to salt and pepper it heavily. Wife had the over priced special. It also was not seasoned at all and very bland. Service was fine. Would not go back. Too many other better places to eat in Saint Paul
There was a bit of a wait to be seated, despite having a reservation. It appeared that the staff was struggling to keep up with table turnovers. It was awkward, but did not negatively impact a thoroughly enjoyable evening!
Our server was extraordinary! She was accommodating to a flaw!Kudos and many thanks for your warmth and professionalism!
The meal was great and our “mixologist” behind the bar is a master!Nicely done!
Thanks for a delightful evening!
Service started out slow but as our lunch progressed we wound up getting more attention. Food was fresh and delicious. We used an opentable gift certificate from an email which had been redeemed online, thjs wound up being a hassle but eventually we got that taken care of (I fault opentable for being making the redemption process so cumbersome). We were charged $15.95 for the Turkey Burger even though the menu stated $13.95. Not sure if the fries were a 'side' which cost $2.00 extra or what the deal was. The menu at the restaurant didn't state whether a side was included or ala carte, but the menu online states 'Sandwiches & Burgers served with hand-cut fries or a small salad'. We were already tired of waiting for the gift certificate issue to be resolved and didn't want to wait around any longer, so decided not to question it and just paid and left. We'd probably return but not in a big rush to do so.
Hostess was gracious and efficient. Waitress forgot to bring the bread - we had to ask for it - but was attentive and efficient for the rest of the meal, and promptly presented the check when we wanted it. (I dislike waiting for it.)
Chicken on my companion's salad was dry. She mentioned it to the waitress. It looked really dry to me, too , and not very tasty. I had the 3 course lunch special which was excellent. Bread was a bit dry, not up to your usual quality.
The service was awful! They crammed our party of 10 in a table meant for 6 or 8. The server seemed disinterested in our presence and was bothered to even do the basics (take our order, refill water, clear plates, proper timing of appetizers and main course, etc). We were surprised and disappointed. This experience was less than ideal to celebrate a birthday.
Great place for a large group celebration. We had a birthday gathering for ten people, and though we usually dine here with two to four people, service was just as good with a large group. One of our favorite places for dinner and brunch, though I wish they would add steak frites to the brunch and lunch menus. Once in a while they will do it for you, but don't seem to listen to our requests to add it to the menu.
