French Onion Soup
My friend and I kept our Monday evening reservation and ended up among your final customers before closing for at least the next couple of weeks. The staff was wonderful to us. We wish you all the best and will be back when you reopen.
The burger was good. The onion rings had no flavor. The french fries were way over-salted and just seemed to be over cooked.
I got the eggs benedict and the person I was with got a breaded chicken sandwich and french onion soup. We both got creme brulee as a desert and calamari as an appetizer. The main dishes were good but not outstanding. Pretty decent for the price but geez does it add up fast! Our server was super friendly and attentive, didn't bother us every five seconds but was somehow there every time we needed her! My only complaint would be that in a practically empty restaurant we for some reason were sat right in the middle of two other tables, one of which was a white woman mid-40's who was coughing up a lung the entire time she was eating. I'm pretty sure her server was even trying to get her out of there because she arrived about 30 minutes after us and her and I ordered the same thing but she got hers before we even got our appetizer, and when she said no desert her server looked relieved, but after she payed her bill she continued to sit at the table for another half hour on her phone continuing to cough the whole time. This usually wouldn't bother me but with everything going on right now (i.e. Coronavirus) it made me incredibly uncomfortable to be sat next to her. Other than that the food was decent, after our drinks, apps, entrees and deserts, the total was only $80 which was perfect because we had a $100 gift card. I definitely would visit again but next time on a weekend for the brunch specials!
Server disappeared so ate most of main entré with no wine.
Salut was wonderful as always. A great dinning experience.
Thank you so much! Everybody loved everything! My mom's one "complaint" was that you had to order/pay for bread rather than it just be given to you. But we can love with that! Food was delicious and Jennifer took great care of us. We love Salut!
Very delicious, but service was slow and the server mixed up our drinks. Again, not a huge deal, just something we noticed.
What we ordered: Steak au poivre and the braised pork with apples, roasted sprout -- both with mashed potatoes. Our waiter Willy took time to describe the offerings and get answers to our questions from the kitchen, and other staff were attentive w/ water refills, boxing up the take-home portion, etc. A delicious dinner, well served and timely - we'll be back. (Glad we made reservations--they're evidently not a secret)
We eat at Salut often and always have great servers. Food is very good both for dinner and lunch/brunch.
Best mussels I've ever had! The pomme frites were comparable to much more expensive restaurants.
Service was attentive and helpful.
The only small downside was the "energetic" noise level.
We plan to go back soon.
Normally, we love this place. It's one of the few places in the area were we can make a reservation and get seated within 5 mintes. Our initial waitress was a "Debbie Downer" she presented the specials in a negative way and we hadn't even asked. By the time she got done, she had me talked out of dishes I hadn't even thought about ordering.
Made me think maybe she didnt like the good there.
The Manager was awesome, he recitified the situation by assigning us a new server. The food was great. Our second server was amazing!
Suggestion: maybe have your servers spend time shadowing each other from time to time for a knowledge & a tips & tricks swap. Sometimes it's helpful to see how your co-workers interact with the customer.
Over all though, breakfast turned out nice!
Disappointed. Salads were limp and obviously from a giant plastic tub and the burger was pre-formed and dense. I remember fresher food but it's been maybe five years. Too bad.
Drinks a little expensive.
While the food was good, although overpriced, the service was very poor. It was as though our table was invisible to the waitress. It was my husband's birthday, of which she never mentioned until we complained to the manager (this had been noted at time the reservation was made). We had ordered a second aperitif drink that was never brought out. The food came out really quickly by someone from the kitchen and we had to sit and wait for our drink order to be delivered to us. At that time, the second aperitif was cancelled. All in all, a poor experience, and although they did give us a $25 gift card to return, I feel sure it will never be used by us.
This was some of the worst service I have received from a restaurant in this price range in a long time. $37 Filet was cooked completely wrong and took an extra 15 minutes to receive back from an obvious microwave reheat. Bouillabaisse had hardly any flavor. Waited way to long for drink orders. The only positive in the experience was honestly the Host that greeted us when arriving. She was very nice and made us feel welcome, and the Asparagus with Hollandaise Sauce, super tasty! Other than that the ambiance was nice... Will not be returning.
Well crafted food offerings that deliver on the promise of American French fusion.
Food was excellent and the service was super friendly despite being a busy holiday.
We had a nice Valentines day dinner here. Steak and walleye were great, waitress was slow but we were in no rush. Wine and dessert were fantastic.
We always live the good. Gallentines with our server didn't quite work. He wasnt all that invested in us.
Again, a wonderful Valentine’s Day dinner. Your shrimp cocktail is the best we have ever had. Your specials were great. And jennifer our service made the night.
The calamari was undercooked with to many peppers mixed in. We ordered the short ribs and received one small short rib surounded by pasta. Two dollars worth of meat for twentyfour dollars.
Great location on Grand Avenue. Cozy atmosphere. Wait staff is great.
My grandson and I both had the steak. They were both done very nicely but were very tough.
We loved Todd our server who contributed to a lovely birthday lunch.
Salute never disappoints!
Salut, a good French Bistro in Saint Paul. The menu is authentic, though it does lack that "artisanal" touch that one might expect from a popular french kitchen. The decor is cozy and welcoming. Service is attentive and friendly. Salut has one BIG plus, adjacent and free parking.
We were there for brunch. A nice selection of brunch items. I was happy the noise level was low. Lovely restaurant.
I have eaten here many many times and have always loved it. We dined there on Saturday evening and the whole experience was the food was not to the level we are used to. Very frustrating because we paid a lot of money for food that just did not taste good
Salute is consistent and our favorite place! Always look forward to going to Salute. St. Paul is the perfect location!
Super great service and accommodated my larger than expected party. Incredible food and we all left full and happy!
From Charlie at the bar to Jennifer our server, I/we had a lovely evening!
I would highly recommend "Ze French Onion Soup Burger." As well, my friend really enjoyed the "Wild Mushroom Short Rib Pappardelle." Great atmosphere - not too quiet yet not loud.
Food was served warm, not hot! Had to wait a long time before waiter came round for us to send back.
I love this place. Food is always good, servers are friendly and attentive and they have a nice wine and drink selection. Highly recommend.
I didn’t understand your rating on noise level. I found it excellent, perfect tor conversation.
The food is always delicious and the waitstaff, while busy, is attentive.
Went with out with some friends the food was great. Love the berry drink and the oysters.
New year’s lunch with friends in a charming place. Great food and drink. Newly redecorated dining area is very nice. A go-to place for an elegant lunch. Never any sense of being rushed
Book club discussion was much more fun with good food and drink
We visited on a Saturday evening - 5pm reservation. As the place filled up, the noise level increased, and there were delays in service as the staff came on-duty, organized themselves, and adjusted to the workload. Once food was ordered, things settled into a well-timed rhythm, with each course arriving right on time, not too early or late. Delivery was courteous and accurate, and the food was excellent. I especially like their preparation and presentation of Hanger Steak; this is one my absolute favorites, and I'll return for it again. I only regret that I didn't have room for dessert.
Tried escargot for the first time and they were amazing.
