About Salut Bar Americain - Edina
Salut Bar Américain is the brasserie down the block. Warm and welcoming, with an urbane wit and urban sensibility, it’s an afternoon hangout and an evening refuge. It’s your neighbor with a French accent. The setting evokes a classic Parisian bistro/restaurant. The service is spirited, confident and capably executed. And the cooking captures the freshness and hearty flavor of French cuisine. It’s the vibe inside that sets Salut apart from bowing maitre ‘d’s and sniffing sommeliers. From the welcoming wine list, to the playful décor, to the genial buzz in the dining room, Salut celebrates the French restaurant’s essential qualities while dispensing with the exclusionary ones. It demystifies French food by making it accessible and rewarding while poking fun at the stereotypes that surround it. Salut gives French dining a shot in the arm – while giving the French a gentle kick in the derriere. In this sense, Salut is a dual citizen: Authentically French – but proudly American.

Salut Bar Americain - Edina Ratings and Reviews
The Service was awesome! The waiter explained the specials well, explained how it was prepared down to the chefs choices in ingredients. French American cuisine, lots of things I’ve never heard of. The waiter was very knowledgeable about everything. The food was awesome, my food had noodles and short ribs cooked to perfection, the noodles were made in house. Everything was done from scratch and I didn’t mind paying the price for it because it was crafted so well. They really put love into their menu. I would describe the atmosphere as vibrant and the volume was moderate, very easy to have a conversation. Definitely will be back for a special occasion, and will recommend to co-workers, friends, family.
Very good meal on Valentine’s Day. Seated promptly at our reservation time. Good service. We both enjoyed the french onion soup. Our entrees were very good. One entree was cool when served. Probably sat in kitchen for a little before being served. Otherwise would have been rated excellent. Creme bulee was excellent.
Always a local favorite. Brunch menu was limited, and two slices of French bread and butter that used to be complimentary they now charge two dollars for! Not worth it because it was hard and kind of tough for bread. The butter had crunchy rock salt which, really who needs more salt in their diet! Eggs, hash and crepes were great! Coffee strong and flavorful! Service was perfect!
We have been going to Salut several times a month since it opened. We have had up and down experiences but mostly positive. We enjoyed the bread offered in tiny white sacks as you ordered your dinner and waited on your food. The complimentary baguette has been replaced by a $2 bread service. A hunk of bread is now served with butter and olive oil on a wood board. You must tear it apart with your hands - it is not sliced. So you touch everyone’s bread while ripping off a chunk while paying $2. Not a nice touch and feels very unfriendly after the years of the complimentary bread. Also, we waited about 20 minutes for our salads that arrived two minutes before our entrees. Our waitress offered to hold the entrees while we ate our salads. She said the salad/dessert side of the kitchen was backed up. Not a good night - will go elsewhere for awhile.
My mother and I were celebrating my father's birthday who is no longer with us. We came in on happy hour (which is an absolute great deal for the taste, value and service you experience on a happy hour time) to casually eat and drink and were in love with our waiter Jordan. He gave us space to chat and was super informational on the menu. I would definitely recommend going here for anything intimate and special!
After my last visit on Jan 24 this is no longer my favorite restaurant. The sevice was so so but that is always the case, My big complaint is the bread or should I say the lack there of. The 2 dollar bread was good, but I cannot believe they were losing money on the bread It was one of the most charming things about the restaurant. I will think before going back and we have been going for years
We enjoyed the meal overall and were there to celebrate my wife's birthday, which we had let them know in advance, but was not acknowledged by any of the staff including the manager. My wife ordered wine, and the first glass was served with a lot of 'stuff' floating in it. They replaced the glass and this time it came with cork floating in it. On the third try, with a new bottle and the manager, it was fine. My wife ordered another two glasses and yet when the bill came, there was not even an offered to comp at least the first glass for the mix up. That was a little disappointing. So, all said and done, we had a fun evening, despite the misses on the wine and my wife's birthday.
My family always loved Salut -- particularly for special occasions. The other night, however, we were very disappointed. It feels like they don't have enough kitchen staff and service staff is spread too thin.
They're now charging $2 for bread. As in Greece, it comes with a couple olives but they could add a bite or two of feta to make it worth the charge.
We'll be looking for a new place for birthdays and anniversaries.
Your survey could be improved as it's loaded to the positive side of things. Should be equal number of positive to negative choices or you data received becomes problematic to interpret.
Experience was good. Waiter was excellent. Care of our grand kids was very good.
We enjoyed our experience!
Dinner at Salut is very busy and almost hectic. Previous visits for lunch and brunch have been more relaxed. Service was adequate considering that the restaurant was packed, but could have been a bit more attentive for dinner. Two of the entrees were deemed excellent, however the Duck was a great disappointment for an establishment which celebrates a French chic style. Overall, we’ll return for a midday meal but not for dinner.
We absolutely love the food at Salut! The service is always outstanding! We were a little disappointed to be seated in the center of the room inches from another adjacent table for four. Booths are a much nicer experience. Great happy hour deals. Regular menu pricing is a bit expensive.
I've been to Salut many times and this time did not disappoint. There were three of us who shared the French regional menu which was Escargot Tartine, a cheese plate, and Coq co vin (sp). It was absolutely wonderful and delicious. I highly recommend giving the French regional menus a try. They switch them out every three months or so and are an exciting way to bring back France to this French restaurant. Thank you, Salut!
Food here is always delicious. This time our service wasn’t the best. I had to ask for the bread. One person ordered soup as a first course but it was brought out with the meal! That was ridiculous. Good thing we have been here numerous times and don’t usually have a problem. Ordered the chicken sandwich and the flank steak. Both yummy.
Always a favorite! The cocktails are always perfect. Love their Smoking Cosmo! We started out with Mussels, that are a generous helping for an appetizer. Plus they taste out of this world! This time we each had burgers. Which are huge and delicious! And the pomme frites are always crispy and perfect for dipping in the Bernaise sauce! No room for dessert! Great food and service are always the best here!
It was a busy night..between xmas/New years..Server was personable but possibly too many tables? Drinks arrived after apps..the time to ask tables for a refill on drinks should be before food arrives, if the drinks are low..we ordered another round after food came, drinks arrived when almost done eating..utilize the bussers more, they should be refilling water, clearing, etc..have servers tip more..it will help you out.
We come in fairly often, I like the food, don't crave it..i always weigh price vs. quality ..
Mountainous appetizer serving of French fries absolutely addicting ! Beyond what two of us were able to tackle
The French onion soup was perfection
Delicious turkey burger
Servers were terrific. Very attentive and engaging. They contributed to the warm and intimate atmosphere
I highly recommend this restaurant
I’ve been here many times and love the burgers, salads and more on the menu and the openness and coziness of the place. However there were fruit flies hovering around our table the whole meal. In December. Really disgusting. Poor pest control. Can’t ever go back. Also doubt any of my 7 guests will go again or positively recommend.
My wife and I enjoy both the Salut locations in Edina and Grand Ave. in St. Paul. The spaces are quite different but the experience is great at both: You will get really good French Bistro food that is not fussy (they actually make fun of fussy French food) along with polished friendly service.
