Salut Bar Americain - Edina
Had a great night
We had a lovely time. I was out of town on Valentine's Day, so we were happy to go out a couple nights later. We arrived slightly early, but there were open tables and we were seated immediately. We ordered several appetizers, and then our entrees; finishing up with dessert and espresso. Excellent, attentive service. The food came out right on time; entrees after we were mostly done with the appetizers. Very pleasant. The space is a little loud just in terms of acoustics. As I go through my 50s I have a harder time picking out conversation in clattery environments, but Salut wasn't too busy Sunday evening so it was just loud enough to have a vibe and an atmosphere, but not so loud I had any trouble conversing. Wonderful evening, and we'll be back.
Food was fantastic and reasonably priced. Our server was outstanding and very informative. Only knock was the price of liquor. $17 for a glass of Basil Hayden. I think the W is cheaper and there was no pricing menu for the spirits. Other than that I will frequent this place often.
Excellent as usual.
CJ at the bar was extremely distracting. It was Valentine's Day, and he was whining about having to work longer hours. I work in the industry, and on holidays, it's pretty obvious why no one would be cut. Yet he made a huge scene at the bar in front of many guests and his own shift leader. I don't normally review my experiences, but this was worth talking about. Christian and the woman working the lead handled it with grace, but it really should not have happened on the floor...
Great food great service once seated. Bar service was nonexistent. But the food is amazing and desserts are delicious.
One of the worst restaurants I have been to in s long time. Basically an overpriced greasy Applebee’s
We've gone to Salute for Valentines for many years, we were disappointed last year but thought we'd try it one more time, what a disappointment, food was average at best.
As stated, it was our favourite restaurant and now a place I won't return to
Entree arrived when we hadn’t started the appetizer. The lobster entree consisted of two bites of lobster. The server was excellent.
It was good however my husband order a non-alcoholic drink and on delivering the drink the server made the comment that “when you turned 21 she’d bring him a nice glass of wine” My husband has an addiction and the comment was inappropiate
Salute is always good! the service is excellent and the food is too.
We were given a cozy booth in the back, just as requested. Meeting for a later lunch allowed us to hang out afterward and just chat and not feel like we were holding the table up. We both had the Croque Madame and pomme frites and they were delicious. Our waitstaff was friendly and just the right level of attentive. Thanks! I will be back.
Fun atmosphere, good food, and great service. The was plenty of items to choose from on the menu.
We love this place. Terrific classic bistro menu, attentive service, great ambience.
It's our favorite spot for family celebration, both family and kid friendly.
All that a nice wine list.
Good service. Food amazing
Went to lunch with 2 friends prior to going to a movie at Edina Theater and we had a really delicious meal. I had the egg white omelette with a salad. Tasty. But the best part was the baguette I ordered separately. It was served with warm butter, oil with an olive and the bread was crusty, but not the kind of crusty that rips the roof of your mouth. Only complaint is that our server seemed to overlook us, but we stopped another worker and she was kind enough to take our order. We had concerns about making it to the movie, but our food came out very quickly.
Food was excellent, could not have been more perfect.
We had reservations for dinner and we were seated in the bar area. No excuse for that.
Jordan the server was fantastic as was the unique French appetizers and entrees
We had a very nice dinner at Salut. The weather was not great and so the place was not crowded or noisy. Our server was excellent. However, we expected a birthday recognition of some sort since the occasion was notated on our reservation.
They were playing Michael Jackson songs and I think it would have created more ambiance if they would have been playing French music.
In the past, our food has been very good. We used to bring guests to the restaurant but now we would be hesitant to do so. We were disappointed with the walleye and the brussel sprouts. Even the dessert was lacking in flavor. The short rib with pappardelle pasta was very good. The service we received was also very good from the server.
Salut is just not what it used to be! Our server was great but the food was mediocre at best. The calamari was greasy and seemed to be 60% jalapeños. The bread is no longer complimentary, we got 1 loaf between 4 adults and no offer to fill it, it costs 3.95. Not worth it! The drinks are so expensive that you might as well just hand over all your cash the minute you walk in the door. I ordered the croquet monsieur which was so bland I could have made something more exciting at home. Not to mention parasol now wants their patrons to pay for their employees health benefits with an added 3% charge. Sadly, I use to love this place but I am taking it off the list now.
Our waitress, "Gorgeous," is outstanding and it is a TREAT to have her whenever I go to Salut!
Enjoyed the food and the quiet surroundings. Good service.
1st time at this restaurant and was fairly disappointed with the experience. Inattentive wait staff put us directly next to 2 others dining (the tables were literally 2 feet apart), even though we had made a reservation prior, and the restaurant was roughly 75% empty. The people next to us even commented on how awkward it was when they were seated. Each table had different servers, so it wasn’t a staffing issue. Management made excuses about staffing, reservations, and it never being an issue before. They eventually moved us at the end of the meal. Won’t be back.
I love Salut. They do a great job always. However, while our waiter was attentive, he was loud, continually interrupted us and we ended the evening feeling like we moving fast enough for him. He needs to work on his social skills.
We met a friend for lunch
It was great except the restaurant had no record of my reservation!
Luckily, I had my phone so I could show them my open table reservation.
our favorite place - no contest. it is fantastic for kids and adults. the food is always prepared perfectly and Julia Child night on Mondays is always a hit. Happy Hour has some nice deals - especially the oysters.
Wonderful! Will return again soon.
New Year’s Eve
We had a wonderful New Year's Eve dinner. The Fizzy Fig cocktails was amazing! We enjoyed Foie Gras, Crab Cake, Pommes Frites and Scallops. All of the food was delicious.
This is the best restaurant in the twin cites, hands down, the best. The service is always friendly and outstanding. The food is impeccable. Love it!
Exceptional service by Jordan. He made the whole dinner excellent.
Had lunch there with my wife. She had a large salad that she thought was quite good. I had an Impossible (vegetarian) burger which was excellent. We each had a house wine, hers white and mine the Cabernet. We both thought it was good wine for the price. Overall, the food and drink were quite good, the environment slightly loud, but a nice level of aliveness. We will go back.
As an frequent customer of Salut we expect and always receive a pleasant atmosphere with excellent service and outstanding food. We enjoyed perfectly done hamburgers with as good French fries as you can find, delicious crab cakes and a wonderful bouillabaisse with a wide variety of fresh sea food, toast in a delicious sauce.
Excellent as usual!
We told the server that we had an appointment, and the service was prompt. Much appreciated.
Having eaten a Salute monthly for a few months, I must conclude the quality of both the food and service varies from very good to unacceptably poor.
During our visit on 12/23 at 6:15 p.m., the restaurant was very busy-essentially full. Unfortunately, this seemed to overwhelm both the kitchen and the servers.
Having reservations,we were seated promptly. However, there followed an uncomfortably long period before we were acknowledged by our server. Cocktails were fine.
Although my beet salad and and scallops entree were o.k, my spouse's Caesar Salad was warm and the Hanger Steak entree was uneatable. Even the fries were overcooked and greasy.
The pot de creme dessert lacked flavor and was not worth the calories.
Although we have planned another visit in January, unless that experience is markedly improved, we will make any additonal visits.
Great gem in downtown Edina. Always a wonderful gathering spot as a couple or with a group.
