About Salut Bar Americain - Edina
Salut Bar Américain is the brasserie down the block. Warm and welcoming, with an urbane wit and urban sensibility, it’s an afternoon hangout and an evening refuge. It’s your neighbor with a French accent. The setting evokes a classic Parisian bistro/restaurant. The service is spirited, confident and capably executed. And the cooking captures the freshness and hearty flavor of French cuisine. It’s the vibe inside that sets Salut apart from bowing maitre ‘d’s and sniffing sommeliers. From the welcoming wine list, to the playful décor, to the genial buzz in the dining room, Salut celebrates the French restaurant’s essential qualities while dispensing with the exclusionary ones. It demystifies French food by making it accessible and rewarding while poking fun at the stereotypes that surround it. Salut gives French dining a shot in the arm – while giving the French a gentle kick in the derriere. In this sense, Salut is a dual citizen: Authentically French – but proudly American.

Salut Bar Americain - Edina Ratings and Reviews
I've dined at the St. Paul Salut - enjoyed Edina's even more. We were a group of nine gathered to celebrate my mother's birthday. The service was outstanding. The waiter absolutely made the event. Food was delicious and prices were as expected. We will return and would recommend to someone else.
Salut is one of our favorite restaurants when we need a night out. In fact, during our meal, we were even discussing how we have never been disappointed with anything we have ordered. The pomme frites are a must, and my son loves the escargot--yes, a bit unusual for an 11 year old--I know. Also, the servers are always wonderful.
We have been coming for years and generally enjoy Salut. Our meal on Saturday was an exception. The filet was of very poor quality (extremely chewy) and was oversalted to the point that it was almost inedible. My wife and son also commented on the sodium - unusual for them. Not sure what was going on Saturday night but we are hopeful it was just an off night and/or a new cook who loves the salt shaker.
I come from Europe so grew up with French cuicine.
While the taste of three of our four dishes was good the presentation was all but French. It was heavy, clumsy, uninspired! Being served a two-2 1/2 inch thick toasted bread smeared with aioli on top of an otherwise well tasting bouillabaisse was not the elegant presentation I had expected from a high end French restaurant. Neither was the good cut of steak with green Madagascar peppercorns, almost hidden by the wild stack of pommes frites....and nothing else! The Salad Nicoise was okay, but not very inspired, I can make a more exciting combo and presentation myself. The crab cake was the only dish that presented well and with a little flair of style.
If this had been a middle of the road restaurant it would have been easier to swallow, but being a pricier place in Edina, it was much below reasonable expectations.
Enjoyed a lovely dinner with a date. Bread was amazing, baked Brie was shockingly small. The Duck and Americana burger were superb. Highly recommend. Fries were such small pieces that they became a challenge to eat. Moderate noise level - great French American bar feel.
Restaurant did not open it's doors at 11AM as their website and our reservation was scheduled. COLD and windy 15 minute wait. NO APOLOGIES when doors were finally opened. No offers for a warm drink once we were inside. Lost my appetite. Recommended this place for my birthday with friends...and will never again. Our chicken and smoked salmon crepes were fine as well as dessert. Coffee was weak.
As always the bar was fabulous. Great drinks and even better service. We had the seafood tower and several entrees and side dishes all delicious. The downside was dessert and coffee. We never got our coffee. It was on our tab and we had to have it adjusted because when we brought it to our servers attention she did not offer to correct the issue she just corrected the tab. Weird. We will return we gave always had great service and food. This was a hiccup we hope.
