Saluda's Ratings and Reviews
Great restaurant. Valet. Tables were nicely spaced. White tablecloths. Noise level a lively hum, but I could hear my date well and could not hear other conversations. Food was excellent. French press coffee at the end. We spent 3 hrs over a long supper. Delightful. Looking forward to our return.
Food was good but my ranch steak was a little cold, and my friend’s pasta was piping hot! The bartender also told us he was busy, gave us a drink menu but never got around to taking our drink order. We just ended up waiting to be seated to get our drinks. Our waitress was very nice and everything else was great.
We dined for Christmas eve. Granted this is a busy night but we were placed in an upstairs area that is usually a conference room. This gave it a cafeteria ambience; plus very low volume Christmas music (after asking for it) gave the cafeteria feel.
Food however was great. We shared snapper, pasta and duck entrees and all were spot on with a good wine selection. Service likewise was good.
Overall a good meal but could much improve on the total experience with a few holiday decorations and music
We were there for our family Christmas Eve dinner. The food was outstanding! I had been there before for client entertainment and loved the ambiance. Unfortunately, they seated us in an 'overflow' room that was pretty boring. I wish we had been able to sit in the main dining room as that has a lot of charm.
Saluda's is consistently great. All 7 of us enjoyed our appetizers and dinner. This is by far the prettiest restaurant in Columbia. It's high ceilings and large windows on the second floor overlooking one of the Five Points' fountains provides the setting for fine dining that's always great!
We have eaten at Saluda's several times over the past years but this time, the food was a disappointment, not living up to our expectations. The filet mignon was o.k. but the gnocchi overpowered it with its salty, spicy ingredients. The grilled asparagus\ however, was delicious. My partner ordered the shrimp and grits and had a similar criticism about all the ingredients used in his dish overpowering the simple deliciousness of a great shrimp and grits combo. Service was adequate and the wine selection was great with the steak.
The food was excellent, but too pricey. My only complaint it that it cost too much. $169 including tip for dinner for 2. I had the "cheeseburger" ribeye, and she had the fillet. Two glasses of house wine, 1 beer, and 1 creme brûlée. For that price, I could have eaten at Ruth's Chris.
We had fantastic food - all 5 of us loved everything we ordered. The place is practically a secret in 5 Points, situated above the Starbucks. The atmosphere is wonderful. I must say our table was in the least desirable place. We had two overhead spotlights pointing right on two guests. We did push our table back a bit but felt the hostess and or waiter should have offered some help when it was obvious it was uncomfortably awkward. The service was disappointing considering the bill. We had to ask for bread and had to ask the waiter for coffeee with our desserts. Either the waiter was new or not “ Johnny on the spot” that night. Both my husband and I have waited tables for years so we do expect very good service in nice establishments. Despite these complaints, we would definitely return. The Salmon special was exceptional as was the filet mignon.
Saluda's is what could be a great venue for a nice dinner. However, no attempt has been made to mitigate its oppressive noise level . Fine dining should not sound like it is taking place in a middle school cafeteria. Put up ceiling panels or wall panels: anything would be an important improvement. A little technology can go a long way to make measureable improvements in a dining environment.
A large party was seated in advance of us. When it was time to cook their dinners, all the energy and heat out was sucked out of the kitchen for that one party. That kind of thing happens and we appreciate that everyone's meal is cooked to order, but it would have been nice if the waiter had let us know we might have to wait between courses. An even nicer touch would have been to bring us a little more bread or even a can of sardines during this "time of famine." However, no one said anything to us until the manager came over and apologized for the delay, as the delay ended. We were brought extra entree items after we had been served our entrees, which really wasn't necessary at that point, and seemed more like we were being given leftovers from another party. The gesture was well-intended, but a better gesture would have been an offering of a complementary desert or coffee. This is a management training issue.
The food was not special, but was tasty enough. I enjoyed the sweet potato hash very much; the pork chop, not so much. The waiter was polite and attentive although he did disappear during the time of famine when he was needed most.
We have been to Saluda's before and had a better experience and expect to return, but perhaps not soon, and hope to have that better experience again.
Our tab for five people was significantly over $300 -- not a record, to be sure -- but we expect more from a place that could be, should be, and can be worth that and more.
The food was made from some of our favorite local farmers' crops. Excellent preparation and execution on fish and beef offerings. One guest with salt restrictions found his pasta offering a little oversalted, but everyone else raved about the deliciousness of their meal. We will be back soon!
I have been to Saluda's with my wife on two occasions, both times were our anniversary, and everything was excellent from the service, to the food, and the environment. Even though my wife, and I have only been there twice, it's definitely one of our favorites!
I have never had a bad experience at Saluda's. The surf and turf smoked sirloin and shrim with freshly made pasta in Cajun cream sauce was to die for. Our server, Jessica, was attentive and quite knowledgeable of the specials and other offerings. Wonderful dining experience.
Food and service were wonderful. Long wait though. We had a reservation at 8 but didn't get seated until almost 9. Poor planning on the restaurants part. At 8:20 we asked how much longer b/c we were starving and we're going to order an app at the bar if it was going to be a while. They told us just a few minutes so we waited. Bad decision as it was another 30+ minutes before we were seated.
