Salty's on the Columbia Ratings and Reviews
Salty’s is a great place for special occasions. It’s our family tradition to go to Salty’s for brunch and the get our Christmas tree. We went during Santa’s brunch. But Santa wasn’t jolly and he passed our table three times and didn’t acknowledge our 11 year old daughter. Sad. Also, Salty’s on the Columbia needs some TLC. It is looking very worn. It looks like they installed new flooring and patio tables and chairs, which is good. More needs to be done. The food was good and service was great. But the overall experience was lacking.
The food was extremely disappointing for the amount of money we paid and the expectation from the reputation of this restaurant. $18 for 6 shrimp appetizer which was bland and soggy, $60 for a steak that wasn’t trimmed well or seared, I couldn’t eat half of it, and $30 for add on half pound King Crab legs which turned out to be about 4 oz of meat that was overwhelming salty. This place felt like all hype and flash. The clam chowder and service was amazing, but not worth going back for.
We were visiting my brother and sister in law in Vancouver, Washington. We flew in from California. We had heard of the Christmas Ships for many years and finally we made it. The staff made a special effort to seat us at a table to see the parade of ships while dining. Our waiter, Terry was very good and very attentive. We had the Salty Trio appetizer which included crab cakes, calamari and coconut shrimp - all delicious. We enjoyed our cocktails as well. Dinners were smoked steelhead( Terry's favorite), fish and chips and pasta with grilled shrimp. All delicious and generous servings. It was a lovely dinner and of course the ship parade was the bonus. Loved the Open Table reservation process!
We had friends in town from out of state and wanted them to experience true "Northwest Cuisine". Salty's on the Columbia gave us a great brunch including many local seafood items as well as incredible desserts. Local wines didn't hurt our experience either. Our friends left having experienced true Northwest Cuisine along with really attentive service. We will continue to have Salty's as our "go-to" Northwest restaurant.
Salty's is a Portland mainstay, and a nice spot for group meals. But on my last few visits, I've found the food to be overpriced and not very good. It's not "bad" per se, but the ambiance is of a high-end restaurant which doesn't match the quality of the food. A salmon special was nearly $40, salad extra, and I'm still not sure what were the "sides" mixed onto the plate. The virgin bloody Mary had plenty of veggies, but the tomato juice was watered--I'd have been upset if it had vodka in it. Overall: I'd recommend Salty's for the view and convenience, but not for the average-tasting food.
This is our second time visiting Salty's. We live out of town in Southern California and were here for Thanksgiving. We had visited Salty's 18 months ago and knew that it was an exceptional find. Our son and daughter-in-law live in Portland and had never been there and they were amazed to have found this new gen and a great place for date nights for them! Salty's has eclectic and interesting decor, a lot to look at, and so much fun! The food was as good the second time as it was the first time. We all ordered something different and all agree that our selections were outstanding. The wine was delicious, an Oregon white wine recommended by our server. Our server, Ahmed, was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant was decorated for Christmas and it was a misty rainy night and we thought the Ambiance was fabulous with the view of the river . It was very festive and really a fun place to go ! We would definitely come back here again!!!
I had been one time before and my experience was amazing. It’s the reason we came back. I came all the way from a different state and waited all year for this experience. But this visit was t even close to what we received the first time around . It took 10-15 mins for anyone to greet us and get us waters and beverages. I didn’t even know who our server was because there was no formal greeting. His name started with a C and it was a long name. I had to wait for a refill on my coffee as well. He visited our table 3 times in the few hours we were there. I was highly disappointed for spending that much on brunch, just to get that kind of service. Not sure if I’ll be back.
We went for Thanksgiving buffet 2017. They had EVERYTHING, Lots of Seafood, Prime Rib, pasta dishes/ desserts! So amazing. Food is always fresh. Lots of choices, drinks are always yummy and "consistent" ! We've celebrated our birthdays, our anniversaries, holidays here AND brought family *from Missouri)for dinner when they came to visit. They want to come back (not sure if its to see us or to just go to Salty's LOL ) Either way, its all good with us. Thank you Salty's. See you soon.

This place was recommended to us when we arrived in Portland. The view of the Columbia River is lovely. The food is absolutely delicious and the staff is super friendly and helpful. This is one place we will revisit again and again when we are visiting the Portland area.
