Waitress was great and gave phenomenal recommendations!
The food was excellent and everything our server Joanna recommended was fabulous!
I love the food, but the restaurant is really not busy enough to warrant all those tiny, cramped tables for that price in Hampton Roads. If you are going to pay $200 for a nice dinner in this area, I don't expect to have my table bumped by every guest trying to get in and out of his/her seat. We made advance reservations for our anniversary, and called out that we were there for our anniversary, and we still got crammed into a tiny table with no room. Twice I had items knocked off my table by other diners on either side. Spread the tables out a little when it is less crowded, or sit me at one of the 8 other vacant "real" tables in the "reserved" dining areas. My third time there, and I'm not sure I'll be back.
We go to Saltine every year for a birthday & anniversary celebration. The food always exceeds our expectations & the service is consistently exceptional. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a delicious seafood experience!
The peel and eat shrimp was awful. It was not cleaned or cooked well. Inedible. The congee was not congee. Lobster bisque too salty and no lobster. Bad meal. Will not return.
This is my second experience with brunch. The Maui FT was cold, but Brian was not attentive. When we asked Shane (he was passing by our table) for our check, he was annoyed and rude. I would continue to recommend Saltine as these are the exceptions and not the rule with your service. However, this is my second encounter with Shane’s attitude and he should be alerted to his shortcomings.
Good food, great service. The servers were knowledgeable and understand the balance between checking on their table and allowing us to enjoy our meal. Overall fabulous night.
Fantastic service and food. Would def go again!! Wife and I are pretty particular on our restaurants—this one was awesome.
Extensive seafood selection. Well prepared.
We enjoyed a very good lobster on a Monday night getting a good price. The room is rather dark so being by the window helped with th bit of daylight left. We had difficulty with the valet parking having to wait a very long time for the car after dinner
We were there for a birthday lunch with friends. The food was good, although they specialize in oysters, they were not shut properly. Service was excellent
It was amazing from the craft cocktails to the oysters and entrees! You could tell the kitchen took a lot of care in their food. We will be back!
Sat at the bar for the evening. Great choice! Bar tender was fast, knowledgeable and very helpful. Food was outstanding
Great but received no points
First time at The Main and Saltine. The atmosphere was lively and casual. Our waitress Christi took very good care of us. She knew the menu and was able to answer our questions about various dishes. My husband had the diver scallops which were cooked to perfection. I had bronzed rock fish with yummy sweet potatoes and succotash which I enjoyed. Christi kept checking on us to see if we needed anything and kept our water glasses filled.
Very good food and drinks. Knowledgeable wait staff. Good service
Dont waste your money! Food was not good; seafood not fresh. Only things good was the white fish dip that came with the rolls, shrimp bao app and the roasted sweet potato side dish.
Everything was delightful. The food was exquisite and we were really pleased by the birthday dessert, quite the show! Highly recommend this place!
Food was good and service was even better. We will be back.
We enjoyed happy hour and dinner at Saltine very much. Service by Andrew was excellent. The jumbo peel n' eat shrimp were slightly undercooked and hence difficult to peel. But they will still delicious. The craft beer options for happy hour were a pleasant surprise. Dinner was excellent, the fish were cooked to perfection and the sides were tasty too. Andrew packed up the leftovers so we had a tasty lunch the next day. Would love to dine there again.
We went for lunch on my wife’s birthday. It was out first time at Saltine and it was excellent. The food was great! I had the Shrimp & Grits and my wife had the day’s special Orange Miso Salmon. Will cone back again. Wanted to sit at a window but the empty table had a reservation. Next time I’ll make sure I ask for a window.
My wife and I have been to Varia and Grain multiple times in the past. We have had great experiences at both. We were in the mood for seafood and, rather than drive to the beach, we decided to try Saltine for a Sunday night start of the week dinner. We were greeted warmly and our request to sit outside was accommodated. Autumn was our server and she was prompt, attentive and knowledgeable. We ordered a bottle of wine and a cocktail. Both came out quickly and were great. Autumn made several suggestions for appetizers. My wife ordered the shrimp toast. Unfortunately, this item was not available. My wife ordered the lobster salad.l On Autumn's recommendation, I ordered the lobster bisque and lobster hush puppies. The appetizers took a while to come out. Autumn stopped by our table several times to apologize and said she would check on them. Finally, a gentleman brought them out and apologized for the long wait. The appetizers were very good. f
For an entree, my wife ordered the wild caught salmon and I ordered the "ultimate" style all lump crab cakes. Our entrees took an extraordinarily long time to come out. Autumn told us she would check on them. The entrees finally arrived. My wife's salmon was very good. My "ultimate" all lump crab cakes were disappointing. Being a lifelong resident of this area, I have a reasonable expectation of "lump" crabmeat. The cakes were somewhat mushy and the crab was stringy, really no lump pieces. The potatoes were good and the succotash was excellent. After our meal, we ordered desert. My wife ordered the chocolate orb. She was disappointed when told that the orb was not available. We both wanted something sweet and we settled for creme brulee and a chocolate and raspberry dessert. All in all, we were disappointed as Saltine didn't live up to the experiences we have had at Varia and Grain. Maybe it was just an off night. Again, were it not for Autumn's personality and attentiveness, this would have been a much worse experience.
Birthday dinner for my wife. Food was excellent, fresh seafood, expertly prepared & the Old Fashions were properly concocted.
Nice quiet place in the middle of Norfolk. Great food, even if just a little overpriced. Nice atmosphere, but I’m not keen on the adjacent two-tops, hard to have a personal conversation.
Elle was fantastic! Her timing and recommendations were great and the food is fantastic. Nice portions and great flavors. Can’t say enough nice things.
Martin, our server was fabulous. Loved the birthday surprise at the end. Thanks for making my birthday dinner with my father so special
Excellent dining experience. The service was great, and the food was outstanding.
This was my second time at Saltines and it will definitely not be my last. Absolutely delicious food (try your fish bronzed - 🤤), amazing staff and just an all around phenomenal time. Also, shout out to Heather. She was one of the best waitresses I have ever had.
We loved the decor. Our waiter, Martin was very knowledgeable, giving great advise of oysters from the raw bar as well as the wonderful seafood options. The grilled Bronzini was melt in your mouth tender with only a few bones noted. The cocktails were excellent. As Douglass MacArthur famously said, “I shall return.”
BTW when you are done, head up to the rooftop bar, Grain to enjoy a beautiful skyline.
Nice place in Hilton Hotel, valet parking is useful $6.00 for 1st 2 hours. Specials board listed jumbo shrimp in pineapple shell. That's what I ordered. Sorry not available...... Got fish and chips. Great fries, huge overcooked fish. Wife had salmon catch of the Day. Other couple ordered catch of the day as well. 1 drink (overly sweey for an old fashioned. Other couple ordered a drink from the menu that they didn't have the ingredients for. $10.00 carrot cake, worth $1.50. We split the chocolate bomb $18.00 worth it.
All booths, no tables. 2 of us had to scootch into the back, not ideal. Wife and I total $77.65 before tip. Bottom line, waitress and bartender incompetent! Manager not coordinating specials board with kitchen. Food was good, but considering the other issues I can't recommend Saline.
An excellent restaurant for a special occasion. The staff was well prepared to explain any questions we may have had.
The atmosphere was absolutely top notch! The seafood selection was very unique (never known anyone to serve Cobia)👍🏾! This was my second time here and my hat goes off to the chefs, The presentation was outstanding and the flavor of the food was remarkable. I truly look forward to coming back. However, our server was not that great🤦🏾♂️. That will not stop me from returning though😉.
We had a wonderful 50th wedding anniversary dinner. Heather our waitperson, was very knowable and would know when we needed her assistance and when we needed some quiet.
Not clean, did not serve all at the same time, shirt was ruined by splashing of waitress and bill was not accurate
The decor of this restaurant evokes the atmosphere of a classic East Coast seafood restaurant-very comfortable. They have a cocktail bar that does't rely on prepackaged mixes. I was able to get a perfectly mixed Hemingway Daiquiri. The food was delicious. The lobster bisque was superb. We started with nice selection of oysters. My lobster was perfectly done as were my husband's dry scallops. The Creme Brulee was well done and the cappuccinos were among the best we've ever had. Our waiter Shane was a font of great recommendations. His service was great-never rushed but attentive. We will definitely return for another memorable meal.
We celebrated our anniversary here and it was lovely! We were greeted with two glasses of champagne and received warm, professional service the whole meal. The oysters were top-notch and the poke cart was a fun way to build an appetizer---the chunks of tuna were enormous and superb. I enjoyed my whole crispy fish, which was plated in a dramatic spiral and garnished with plantains and mango coleslaw. My husband's bronzed fresh corvina was also wonderful. We were surprised by Shane with a special dessert for our anniversary, which was very kind. His friendly and on-point service made the evening a special one for us!
Food was great as was the service. We went at 6:30 on a Friday night in the middle of happy hour. Very noisy including the loud music. Could not hear our waitress. After happy hour the noise level was better. Overall a great place to have a nice meal with great service.
First visit to Saltine, will not be the last. Nice ambiance. We were there celebrating an anniversary. Great staff. Treated very attentively from the minute we walked in. Food was delicious- don't miss the she crab soup. Our server, Ellisse made the evening even more enjoyable. She was knowledgeable about everything from drinks to dessert. Made us feel very welcome. Very pleasant experience. Don't miss it.
I enjoyed this restaurant and the service! Best restaurant in downtown Norfolk. The food was outstanding! We enjoyed the food and ambience and will definitely recommend this restaurant to our family and friends
Robert M. was an amazing server and had recommendations for drinks available when I told him what I was looking for. We went on Sunday night and it was fairly empty, which was perfect for us. It was also one of their nights for lobstermania, which includes a number of lobster appetizers and entrees. We had the lobster bisque and lobster risotto both of which were creamy and included large chunks of lobster. We also had the raspberry chocolate tart which I highly recommend. The calamari was crispy and light, but the tarter sauce was a bit too much with our lobster bisque, a mistake on our part. We shouldn't have ordered so many rich foods. :)
They also included a bread and smoked white fish pate as an appetizer. The smoked fish was perfect with the sourdough rye roles.
Everything we had was great!
