Had a great lunch of blackened tuna tacos and she crab soup. Mark our waiter and bartender was excellent. Friendly and fun.
Service Weak
We had a food complaint that was met with an I'm sorry, but that's the way it is manner.
No one associated our table with Open Table
We needed change for a parking meter, and received slow and tolerant help.
I will not return,
Great food and great ambiance. The restaurant was too loud for my liking. Requested that the doors be closed for a subtle conversation between my date and I.
Really disappointed in the food and the service at Saltine when we went on 26 Feb. I specifically noted when I made the reservation that the dinner was setup to celebrate a special occasion for my 15 year old son. They ended up seating us in the bar at a high top rather than in the main dining room even though there was plenty of seating available. I ordered the crab cake dinner for $29 which was more cake than crab and it was served with a side of corn and butter beans that appeared to have been from the previous week - sad and mushy. In addition to the sad veggies there was a clump of tasteless mashed potatoes. In all, it looked and tasted like a dish you’d get at a cafeteria rather than a $29 meal at what is supposed to be a “nice” restaurant. I also requested a wine list to Oder a glass of wine to have WITH MY DINNER. The wine list was dropped off, but then the waiter didn’t return for 15 minutes! I finally went to the bar to order the wine, but didn’t receive until I finished my meal. Then my son ordered the carrot cake for dessert which was a piece of dried out cake that tasted like it was made when my mushy vegetables were made and it had a glob of icing on top that was double the size of the cake. I suspect it was added to hide the taste of the dried out cake. In summary, I spent $160 on a dinner for 2 that was subpar and no one even acknowledged it was for a special occasion. You have lost my patronage Saltine. Please clean up your act.
Every aspect of our eating experience was sheer perfection. From the service to the food to the ambiance, all were impeccable! My husband is an essential medical person & it was so wonderful to get out in a social distance respecting environment and relax & not worry about safety. We will be returning to Saltine many times in the future.
Claire service was superb, very friendly & timing with service was perfect
Amazing meal. Was surprised when the snapper was head on but the taste was amazing.
Took my wife out for seafood last Friday and it was a great event. Had the Crab cakes and Rockfish, service was excellent and so was the food.
Server was friendly and great both of our dishes were awesome the coconut curry mussels were great
Raven was amazing
FOOD WAS GREAT, SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT, BUT THE MENU CHANGED WITHOUT US KNOWING. THEY RAN OUT OF TUNA, BUT THE SALMON WAS JUST AS GOOD.
Clean, friendly service, good food. I would go back
Our dinner was AWESOME, we haven’t really been to a seafood restaurant that had all of the categories on point like Saltine. Our server Doug was EXCELLENT, he gave great recommendations and kept everything just right through the whole dining experience. The food was VERY good, everything we had was on point!
One of the most amazing seafood restaurants I have ever eaten at! Saltine has a great selection of seafood and the rockfish chowder is to die for.
Server was great. Atmosphere was nice. The food? No. Ribeye steak was cooked very poorly, as though the temperature was too low and no maillard reaction was achieved whatsoever. Truffle fries had no truffle except in a condiment mayo. The oysters in the appetizer were cut in half or perhaps even quarters. The cup of soup was 2oz, enough for 4 spoonfuls. No bread, no ice in the water. Overall just the hotel chain watching its restaurant margins.
Absolutely love this place. Food is outstanding as well as the service. Perfect place to have a nice relaxing dinner with your special someone.
Valentine’s Brunch
I ordered the crab Benedict and asked for a ‘slice of Smithfield Ham’ to be added. There is ‘Smithfield Ham Benedict’ on the menu. I got a small slice of generic ham under the eggs. Not Smithfield Ham. Small amount of crab, but good quality. Not a lot of Hollandaise sauce. Nice overall presentation but food quality was almost ‘poor’.
Ladies room had over flowing trash can and missing toilet paper.
The Shrimp&Grits also presented well. Until you realized there was a Huge Amount of grits, 4 or maybe 6 shrimp and good amount of andouille sausage. Sauce was pretty much missing.
Both meals were average at best.
Our waitress was fine.
I received a phone call @ 12:45/1:00 saying: “Could you come in earlier than your 2:45 reservation as we close at 3:00 and all orders, alcohol and food have to be entered by 2:45? I had at least 3 texts verifying that we would keep our reservation, which I had to pay $25.00 to make! Pay to make a reservation?!?! There were 3 tables with customers!!! Don’t think we will be back much less recommend to our neighbors/friends here in Norfolk. The closed chain link fence we had to slide through to leave certainly did nothing to help any ‘warm and friendly’ feeling.

Our waitress never asked what we wanted to drink. She asked if we wanted an appetizer my husband ordered soup she brought the soup and set it down while we looked at menu to figure out what we wanted. She crab soup was good. She took our order we had the calamari which was so chewy was not great. Had to remind here we didn’t have drinks. I got the lobster roll and the lobster was OK very little taste had three little teeny pieces of celery in it I don’t know why the roll was not toasted it was cold the french fries were ice cold couldn’t even eat them. Husband ordered shrimp and grits more like gumbo over grits. He left most of his food I have never seen that. Don’t wast money.
Food and service were great!! Such a classy place! Loved our visit!
Valentines Day brunch. Our waiter was just ok. He didn't seem busy but forgot a lot to come back with refills, clearing dishes, etc. He didn't write down our order so I attribute that to forgetting. Food was delicious but a bit overpriced. My husband loved the "waffles & chicken."
It was Alright or now Bad! Going to give Dinner a try in the future, as we did breakfast. One thing to note, for me at least, the name was reflected in the food, Salty...
Service was great, with a etiquette atmosphere. Noise levels wasn’t loud. Lighting was great. I did not wait long for my food. The food was absolutely delicious! Will recommend to fellow colleagues.
The atmosphere was great, and the food was even better.
Next time I’m in town I would like to try Saltine for dinner.
Very cozy and relaxed environment and food is awesome!
Food was great and service was amazing . I will definitely come again.
It was ok. Over priced for what you get. My steak wasn’t flavored at all but cooked perfectly. But to be honest I cook steaks just as good at home for half the price and it’s seasoned better. $40 for a steak it should taste great. Ruth Chris has much better steaks. Also their cocktails aren’t that great. Too strong with little flavor. Maybe it was just a bad night but for $150 the meal should be decent. I will prob try another spot unless the up the food quality
Went for Valentine's Day dinner. Bronzed Salmon is fantastic, just the right mix of spices and brown sugar. Wait staff was attentive without being bothersome. Overall great experience.
Our only complaint was at one point someone turned the music sound way up and then went room to room to see what volume sounded like, would think by now they would have those controls marked so not to disturb the guests.
Very romantic in power booth and food was delicious!
Our server was not very personable and she didn’t seem to understand our keto diet so the info she gave me didn’t make ordering easy or accurate. Portions were small especially the appetizer: $19 for 4 shrimp!? The menu was more pedestrian than what we saw online. We were expecting a fine dining experience and were underwhelmed. We wouldn’t go back.
Great service, excellent food, nice presentation for everything we ordered. Will definitely be back, had dinner and then breakfast the next day.
Perfect lunch place. Delicious food, excellent service, comfortable seating. I had the fish sandwich and it was very tasty and light. My friend had the fresh grilled salmon and we shared the carrot cake for dessert (it's rich so sharing was perfect). Highly recommend.
Our server was extremely attentive (even with several other parties) without being cloying.
Made a reservation through Open table. When we arrived, the hostess and another employee acted like they couldn’t find the reservation. We waited about 10 minutes for something to be resolved. Then we were set in the bar area. Like we didn’t have a reservation and were being added in. This was disappointing considering the reservation was made and confirmed. When I asked the hostess about why we were seated in the bar, we were eventually moved to the dining room. Not a stellar reception or smooth experience at all.
We had a most enjoyable dining experience. Food and service with Autumn was wonderful.
Mussels were great oysters were garbage.. 15 bucks for 6 the were the size of maybe my pinky nail. Scallops were ok but the veggies were burnt to a crisp and they thought it was ok to serve it to us. Bartender was great though
The Chunu oysters here are amazing! The food is consistently delicious! The vodka martinis are usually well done. Overall a great date and dinner place. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great date night spot. Heads up Valet service is not available with COVID restrictions in place. The parking garage is not too far.
The food was very good. Nichole did an excellent job with the recommendations. This place was very nice.
One of my favorite restaurant in Norfolk. Great food, service and ambiance.
Went vehicle shopping with my wife and it was late and a hour drive back home I realized I had a Open Table account and sought its recommendation for dinner 🍽 after 9 and found Saltines as a recommendation plus I had seen them featured on WTKR being highlighted that very same morning. The Wait staff was attentive and pleasant. The food was very good and we plan to return.
