Not clean, did not serve all at the same time, shirt was ruined by splashing of waitress and bill was not accurate
The decor of this restaurant evokes the atmosphere of a classic East Coast seafood restaurant-very comfortable. They have a cocktail bar that does't rely on prepackaged mixes. I was able to get a perfectly mixed Hemingway Daiquiri. The food was delicious. The lobster bisque was superb. We started with nice selection of oysters. My lobster was perfectly done as were my husband's dry scallops. The Creme Brulee was well done and the cappuccinos were among the best we've ever had. Our waiter Shane was a font of great recommendations. His service was great-never rushed but attentive. We will definitely return for another memorable meal.
We celebrated our anniversary here and it was lovely! We were greeted with two glasses of champagne and received warm, professional service the whole meal. The oysters were top-notch and the poke cart was a fun way to build an appetizer---the chunks of tuna were enormous and superb. I enjoyed my whole crispy fish, which was plated in a dramatic spiral and garnished with plantains and mango coleslaw. My husband's bronzed fresh corvina was also wonderful. We were surprised by Shane with a special dessert for our anniversary, which was very kind. His friendly and on-point service made the evening a special one for us!
Food was great as was the service. We went at 6:30 on a Friday night in the middle of happy hour. Very noisy including the loud music. Could not hear our waitress. After happy hour the noise level was better. Overall a great place to have a nice meal with great service.
First visit to Saltine, will not be the last. Nice ambiance. We were there celebrating an anniversary. Great staff. Treated very attentively from the minute we walked in. Food was delicious- don't miss the she crab soup. Our server, Ellisse made the evening even more enjoyable. She was knowledgeable about everything from drinks to dessert. Made us feel very welcome. Very pleasant experience. Don't miss it.
I enjoyed this restaurant and the service! Best restaurant in downtown Norfolk. The food was outstanding! We enjoyed the food and ambience and will definitely recommend this restaurant to our family and friends
Robert M. was an amazing server and had recommendations for drinks available when I told him what I was looking for. We went on Sunday night and it was fairly empty, which was perfect for us. It was also one of their nights for lobstermania, which includes a number of lobster appetizers and entrees. We had the lobster bisque and lobster risotto both of which were creamy and included large chunks of lobster. We also had the raspberry chocolate tart which I highly recommend. The calamari was crispy and light, but the tarter sauce was a bit too much with our lobster bisque, a mistake on our part. We shouldn't have ordered so many rich foods. :)
They also included a bread and smoked white fish pate as an appetizer. The smoked fish was perfect with the sourdough rye roles.
Everything we had was great!
The food was phenomenal! We had a variety of oysters, crab cakes, and ceviche prepared right at our table. Highly recommend.
Ellie was wonderful! Great service and advise great personality
Lunch for 2, sat us by a large part of 8, so it was noisy. Restaurant wasnt full, they could have sat us elsewhere. Food was good, we ordered salads. I was surprised at portion size for the price. The salads came in huge bowls, but the portion was small in comparison. Presentation and atmosphere where nice. Staff was pleasant, I would go again.
Our waitress was barely interested in our presence which ruined the entire dining experience for us.
Party of three, had a great glass of wine from Varia and a very enjoyable dinner at Saltine; She Crab soup was superb! All three entrees we’re excellent!! (Bronzed Sword Fish, Scallops and Crab Cakes!!!). Our waitress was very pleasant, extremely knowledgeable and pleasant. A very nice evening!
So torn because I went to Saltine for the first time this past winter and everything was phenomenal...couldn’t stop talking about it. This most recent visit was subpar. My dirty martini was sweet which made me think the shaker wasn’t clean before shaking my drink. The appetizers were yummy. My salmon entree was ok, and my husbands filet mignon was too salty. I will try it one more time...I was just disappointed this go round...especially dropping $200 on a dinner.
Our meal was excellent! Our server, Heather, was very knowledgeable about the menu and was spot-on with her recommendations. Everything was delicious!
I visited Saltine on a Saturday for brunch with my daughter. We were greeted professionally and seated right away. Our waiter was wonderful! With it being our first time, he gave us a little background about the restaurant, informed us of specials, and patiently answered all questions we had.
The food was great! I had the Ahi tuna poké, along with the Powerhouse omelette, and my daughter had a burger. The poké was so fresh and delicious! The omelette wasn’t the greatest.... it definitely needed more seasoning. My daughter said she liked her burger (I think she ate it in 5 minutes!!!).
The ambience of the establishment is nice! With it being Saturday, I thought it would have been more occupied, but it was nice to be able to sit and have conversation with my 15 year old and actually hear her.
This is a must visit restaurant! I would definitely recommend trying the seafood dishes.
Food waa very basic. My wife ordered the salmon bronzed and its flavor was lacking. The drink menu is vast and and it was hard to decide. However, the bartender did a great job. The main courses were flavorless but cooked well.
The food was just OK for the price. The service was slow, which wouldn't normally bother me, but the HVAC was blowing cold air directly on us so it was freezing even with a sweater.
Scallop meal used to be best in town, something changed. I think they need to revisit that dish.
Raw bar, peel and eat shrimp were great. The Oysters Rockefeller were some of the best we ever had. The brussel sprouts were undercooked and the truffle fries would have been better if McDonald's served them. Overall a very good meal.
The food was excellent and our server, Heather made some excellent recommendations to make our dining experience even that much better! It was a wonderful experience!
FYI, although it says valet parking available in the description on open table it is space available. If the hotel is full you can not use valet
The food was excellent and the service was amazing! We had a semi-private room which was nice. The chocolate orb dessert was delicious. We will definitely return.
The food was amazing, very well prepared. The wine was delicious, and the ambiance was worth it.
We went for an early dinner. The food and drinks were delicious, the waitress was wonderful and the atmosphere was perfect. We really enjoyed ourselves.
We could not have had a better experience for our anniversary. Martin, our server, was extremely knowledgeable and attentive. The food was fresh and delicious. We will absolutely go back.
The food was wonderful and our server, just perfect.
The crab cakes and bronzed salmon were delicious. The wine list was quite nice and the mark-up on the wine was very reasonable.
I highly recommend this restaurant and can’t wait to return for another great meal.
Great area but there is alot going on in that one spot. Several options for dining. Was confused on if there was a dress code. Nevertheless, our waitress was awesome an attentive, but not overbearing. Our reservation for two ended up being modified for five and they accommodate us very well. The food was good and the carrot cake was beautiful.
Robert provides Excellent service! Food quality was great! We had a wonderful anniversary dinner!
Wow! What a great restaurant week deal. The portion sizes were great for the price; I had calamari and the Shrimp and grits and was stuffed afterwards. My husband enjoyed the Oyster Po Boy. They forgot the bacon on it at 1st but once that was added in - he enjoyed it even more. We would definitely return!
Our lamb was not prepared as ordered but our waitress rectified the situation immediately. Delicious upon the return!
My husband and I enjoyed our date night at Saltine so much! The service was great and the food was absolutely amazing!
My wife and I went to Saltine for our 20th wedding anniversary. It was the second time we have eaten there and we were not disappointed either time. We started with t he charbroiled James River oysters. They were delicious. My wife had the bronzed rock fish and I had the corvine, also bronzed, with an Oregon pinot gris. All were outstanding. We ended the meal by sharing a crème brulee. As outstanding as the food was, we were most impressed with the staff. The hostess greeted us with a smiling "Happy Anniversary" before seating us at a window table with a great view. Our waitress, Amanda, was super! She answered all of our questions expertly. We told her a story that on our wedding night a friend our ours forgot to pick up the food from the reception so we had champagne and "nabs" for our dinner! A few minutes later she came back to the table with two flutes of complimentary champagne and Lance Nabs! We don't know where in the world she found them. Very impressive! Her timing in between courses was impeccable. We had a slow, enjoyable anniversary dinner we will not forget. We would absolutely recommend Saltine to anyone who enjoys fine food, expertly prepared with superb service in an upscale setting.
We were a little concerned when the appetizers and the salads all arrived at the same time. The food was delicious and the service improved.
Good food, decor is lacking and very dark, will try again
Food was good, service not so much. Too much time between courses, bringing the 2nd cocktail. WE made our wine selection, the waiter took it and came back later stating it was out of stock, Selection #2 was brought, but not cold enough. Back to the kitchen where the ice bucket was kept. Another round of checking and still not cold enough. Finally, it was deemed acceptable. If the wine is being kept remotely from the table, then it would be helpful if the waiter was more attentive to check the wine glass levels, and not wait until some are bone dry. Eventually, we requested the wine to be left on the table. Without dessert, the process took two hours. All in all, just not so great and a disappointment after we had received rave reviews from another dinner a few weeks earlier. Win some, lose some, I guess.
Overall food at least main course was good. The appetizer of oysters Rockefeller was horrible. The drinks overpriced. The service was ok though waiter tried to overcharge for several items-sides and the wine. Fortunately we caught it and they remedied though another employee came and apologized not our waiter. Very expensive not really worth it.
Nice meal, the dark paneled walls are basement-like. The fish was fresh and cooked to a perfect medium (sockeye salmon) and was very fast. Dessert is fantastic big enough to split.
I can always count on a wonderful meal and experience dining at Saltine. Visiting family were impressed with service (Awesone ROBERT!), menu selection (even the sides!!) and the very special ending dessert - the ORB! Thanks Robert for making everything perfect. See you again soon!
