SaltBox Oyster Co.
The bartender was amazing!! We loved our food and craft cocktails. We’ll definitely be back.
Had a great time, food was outstanding and just really enjoyed being there. It’s definently a place I will go back too
The oysters are overpriced but everything else is standard. I would suggest the restaurant put prices on their website. There have been a number of restaurants at this location that haven’t made it. I hope this one does.
I would love to recommend this but I don’t feel that I can. They had no Irish whiskey in the entire bar- the week before St. Patrick’s day. The wait staff switched out at our drink order so we had to order those twice. The appetizer order was incorrect and half was missed. My husband’s soup was delivered with his meal. We ordered two desserts (twice) and only received one. The food was so salty it was barely edible - I felt like I needed a gallon of water on the way home...and yes the irony of the restaurant name is not lost in this statement. The house was not full so I cannot blame this on a very busy. Night. It simply underwhelms on all fronts. Seems like a nice area and I would like to go back and try other restaurants in this group of shops so I hope this restaurant gets it together and can stay viable because it is a nice concept with a nice space. Good luck to them!
Also the pumpkin crack dessert is incredible!
A must try!
Looking forward to my next visit:)
BESTFried Oysters and special sauce we ever had!!!
The SaltBox is an absolute MUST for oyster lovers !!!
Fried catfish platter for lunch was superb - perfectly breaded fish, great fried, delicious slaw. Can't wait to return for dinner sometime.
Food was delicious.
This was probably the best seafood meal our family has enjoyed in Richmond in years. We sampled most of the oysters on the half-shell, the fried oysters, and an assortment of first courses and dinners. All was just as desired and served promptly by an attentive and pleasant wait staff. The ambiance of the restaurant with the cooks in view set a good tone for a special night out. The menu contains creative combinations of ingredients with a sense of joy. We will return.
Happy hour drink and apps were perfect and dinner was delicious too.
Great place if you just want oysters but other items are a bit pricy. Also you get the idea that the chef thinks that all his dishes are perfect the way they are. As an example they don't offer mustard and you have to ask for salt and pepper.
Another great dinner at Saltbox. Oysters were fresh and yummy. Fantastic service from Quinn. Will be back for sure.
It was good. Bronzini was smaller then it should have been. Got the whole fish and after picking throgh bones not much meat to eat. However, the raw oysters were fantastic. Next time I will get the oyster dishes!
I love this place!
Calling all oyster lovers, SaltBox Oyster Co. has the best oysters in Richmond!
Food and service was awesome!
We loved every bite at SaltBox! The service was fantastic and we tried a variety of oysters with great sauces. The night was definitely reasonable, even with oysters, entrees and wine!
This was our first visit. My husband had the cauldron and I had the branzino. Both were outstanding. The pumpkin dessert was also wonderful as it was not overly sweet and was very flavorful. Can't wait to return!
The service was outstanding, the food was delicious. I look forward to going back again and trying the lamb!
Food was delicious, servers were very helpful and able to answer questions about bar and food items.
I expected, based on the menu and pricing, that this place would have a nice atmosphere for dinner. Instead, it was brightly lit with interrogation style lighting above each table (NOT date friendly) and had the overall feel of a Panera or other casual suburban chain restaurant. The food was passable but not impressive and not anything I would return for.
Our first trip and it won't be our last. Price of oysters (each) a little high, but the food was tremendous. Two of our group had the crab cake, one had the crab macaroni, and two had the mussels,, etc. Everyone was super pleased.
Everything we ate was crafted with such care that our meal was a taste sensation. The chefs know how to meld the flavors of the south to perfection. I can’t recommend this place enough. Oysters included a tasty variety that lived up to the salt box name if you are a fan of brine, which I am. Lots of VA choices too, so you don’t have to go with briny if you don’t want to. Their hot sauce needs to be bottled and sold it’s that amazing. The manager says they are working on it thanks to high demand.
Our waitress was amazing !!! Food was all phenomenal! Can’t wait to get back there and devour more delicious fresh oysters. The big title of champagne at a very reasonable price was icing on the cake. Please keep that option available on you regular menu.
The server was very patient with our table, explaining all the oysters and drinks! All the food was delicious.
Great food and wonderful server! We enjoyed it all.
I've been here twice now already and I have not been disappointed! The food is SO GOOD. And the service is always the best. Will continue to come back!
My Husband and I went on Valentines Day to the umpteenth newest restaurant at that location. We were greeted by the nicest, friendlest hostesses, what a change from it last incarnation! Saltbock Oysters started out on a very hopeful note. After studying the menu which thankfully stuck by the less or more theme we decided to split the Calbash Basket - perfectly fried oysters, clams, bays scallops served with a pickled egg rémoulade, which may sound strange but once you taste it you will NEVER go back to tartar sauce!
For Dinner he had the prime rib - cooked perfectly and drenched butter. The potato au gratin and baked beans sides where ok but the greens were great!
I had the CAULDRON -
Oysters, fish, shrimp, clams, mussels, linguini, seafood broth, carrot, celery, leeks, toast points omg YUM!! I don’t eat pasta because of the carbs but it was all so good I nibbled in some (ok the toast points are carbs too but eating that was a must cause how else would you get up that ambrosia they called seafood broth (felt the place to refined for me to up end the bowl and slurp up all that goodness) the seafood was so gently cooked - all was so flavorful and tender. I am drooling just thinking abou it.
We split a desert - (if you split desert you can choose the side without carbs - yep it’s what I tell myself) really wanted to try the pumpkin crack pie but hubby doesn’t like pumpkin seeds so we decided on eclair cake.
A word about eclair cake, we once lived in the country part of central VA. where everybody made and sold eclair cake. It’s easy, quick and cheap to make. Not so at Saltbox, every ingredient (except the graham cracker) was homemade, I’m told from the chef’s grandmother’s recipe. Bravo, granny, Bravo! You just ruined all others for me.
It was a hefty tab ($$) but that was ok, the food was scumptous, excellently presented and atmosphere so pleasant it was so worth every cent. Highly recommend
The freshest and highest quality oysters in Richmond! The fish was extraordinarily seasoned and fresh. The service was impeccable.
Valentines Date Night. Great assortment of oysters. Delicious fresh fish. Yummy cocktails. Attentive waitstaff.
It was our first time to have dinner here. The waitress explained the menu to us and made several recommendations. Our meals were served quickly and were delicious. Every thing from the appetizer to dessert was fabulous. We really enjoyed the experience.
The food the service was fabulous. Our waitress Sophie served us impeccably. The oysters are fresh and delicious. We both had the Sheep’s Head and it was delicious.
Great food and quick service.
Interesting and delicious food. Our waitress was knowledgeable and well trained. She waited to clear our plates till all of us were finished eating.
That you hardly ever see here in Richmond.
Phenomenal oysters! Menu separations was great, food presentation was on-point. Superb service! Great atmosphere. Will definitely return soon - highly recommend.
Went in for brunch, it was very tasty, quick to sit and great service. Even interacted with the kitchen staff, who were also very pleasant and accommodating. Highly recommend this place for brunch!
I thought the oysters were delicious, and I love the innovative menu full of surprises!
My favorite seafood chef is back! I loved Limani. So happy to have his perfect preparations of the freshest fish. Great Happy Hour offerings. Superb service.
My third visit only confirmed that SaltBox is a great addition to the Willow Lawn neighborhood. Great food, great presentation, good service, pleasant environment. Perfect. One more salad offering at lunch would be welcomed, that isn't shellfish for those allergic to that. Thanks!
