SaltBox Oyster Co.
Awesome food and great service. The roasted oysters are excellent. Great for a dinner date or for a business dinner!
The Sunday brunch was delightful, especially the omelets and fried oysters. Very friendly, attentive waitress.
Had a quiet brunch with the family. Food and service were great. Shared roasted and fried oysters and different bennies. The shrimp and grits were especially good.
Great variety of small sharing plates we tried almost all of them and the octopus was great!
Great setting with open air high tops and patio available. Excellent food and oysters!
Not super busy inside for a Saturday night, but quite a few we’re out on the patio. The oysters on the half shell were superb. We mixed them up. Maybe a little expensive - so will come back for oyster happy hour :)
We also had the grilled oyster Rockefeller, which was beautifully done. Oysters not overdone. The scallops were tasty - over a polenta cake. And my wife enjoyed the seafood African gumbo.
The service was attentive and informal. All restaurant staff seemed happy and friendly all evening. Most enjoyable! We will certainly come back.
Food was good. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Staff was very accommodating.
great evening and experience
I came here tonight with my daughter and mother after a long 6 hour car ride from WV. our drink order was taken quickly as was our food order. shortly after, I was informed certain ingredients for my long island iced tea were not available. instead of suggesting I choose another drink- since my choice was not actually even on their menu- I was told a staff member had gone to the liquor store to get the items for my drink and they were sorry it would be another 5 minutes. seriously?! wow.....
the food was equally amazing. I had the Virginia oyster spread, my Daughter the fried oysters and pimento mac and cheese, and my Mother the eclair dessert. We were so stuffed!
Absolutely beautiful presentation, lovely meal on the patio with the night breeze, and INCREDIBLY amazing service. Only drawback from tonight was that we live 6 hours away! Saltbox will be a regular when we are here!
Excellent oysters and good menu of other food.
Great location and I applaud the effor to open a seafood restaurant in this location, and to offer virginia seafood. but..... the prices are outlandish for the value of the food you recieve. The oysters are not that good and the way they are prepared overpowers what taste there is. The service was slow to the point I had to get up and hunt down a waitress for an 8 dollar draft beer, which came 5+ minutes later. Clearly the ownership is not on site. There are plenty of better places in town for the food they are serving.
Restaurant has a nice vibe but the food was mediocre had to pay for bread and our server should not have been in a restaurant environment. No idea how to wait on tables at the quality of restaurant they are advertised to be.
I felt that this restaurant was way overpriced for the portion size and quality of food.
Not bad. Oysters ok. Garlic Parmesan fires were very good. Kids pancakes for $1 on Sunday was really good.
Wow! This is a definite gem of a place. Kudos to the chef, everything from the roasted oysters to the shrimp & grits and finally the chess pie was top notch. My only concern is the place needs to be discovered by more people, it was pretty quiet for a Saturday night at 8pm. Looking forward to my next visit!
The waitress was not very pleasant didn’t go over the menu with us but did for the table behind us. Didn’t clear the plates after appetizers were finished and we had to ask that our drinks be refilled. The food was fabulous and last time we were here the waitress was spot on.
This is quite costly for the food served. I had the Roasted Oyster Sampler $17 for 6 oysters which seems very expensive considering they were very small. Doubt I would return.
Quinn, our server, made our dinning experience awesome. This is not the first time he waits on us and he is consistently courteous, prompt and polite. We love oysters and the quality of the oysters at this restaurant are phenomenal.
Amazing oysters! Can't wait to try the grilled oysters on Thursday.👍
Our server was fantastic! Eddie took such good care of us. The oysters were so delicious! And the happy hour deals were great too!
Restaurant was pretty empty while we there for Sunday brunch. Limited brunch menu. Service was great, food was pretty good, but not for the price.
Our waitress Veronica was outstanding! I accidentally dropped a piece of food into my water glass and she was right there with more water, ice and a fresh glass. I had fried and roasted oysters and they were great. My favorite was the Parmesan roasted oyster. I will visit this restaurant again for sure!
This was my third visit and took two friends who had never been. As in my previous experience, the food was delicious and the menu interesting. However, the server set a negative pall on the evening. First she couldn’t tell us the special because she said she couldn’t pronounce the name of the fish. Part of our order never arrived. She never offered us a second glass of wine. Totally untrained and inexperienced.
Server (sorry I don't remember his name) was wonderful! Told us about happy hour specials and was very attentive. Great food! Two of us chose the Salmon with mushroom risotto -- plentiful and delicious!
We enjoyed our first visit to the Salt Box. We were greeted pleasantly and our waitress described the daily specials. All our meals were delicious and sized appropriately. the oysters were prepared perfectly and were very fresh! If it hadn't been National Ice Cream Day, we would have stayed to try some of their desserts. All sounded good! We'll be back....
Everything was amazing!! For appetizers we got scallops & calamari. The scallops were cooked perfectly. We got 2 surf & turfs, a shrimp & grits & a crab cake sandwich. The fries & sandwich were AMAZING. The crab cake was all meat with VERY little filler. The steak was so tender. Overall, we will definitely be back!!
This was a last minute decision and it was a good one. The service was excellent as was the food. I had the shrimp & grits and she had the crab cake sandwich. Both were very good. The shrimp & grits was served with chorizo which was interesting and I liked it but might not be to everyone’s liking.
I had a really good time! I made a reservation for a large party and received texts and a call the day before to verify if anything additional was needed. I didn’t realize that they closed at 8pm (my reservation was for 7:15) and they were so accommodating and didn’t rush us. Drinks were delicious and fresh. Oysters were shucked well and so fresh! I’ll definitely be going back.
Love everything this Chef does. Wished our drinks had come faster.
The service was excellent, our waitress was attentive without being bothersome. She was especially helpful with recommendations of food and available combinations she could provide. We should have listened to her about the sides being big enough for 2 to share. The seafood was very good and well prepared, all the sides were excellent. Our party of 5 had a mixture of appetizers and entrees all served at the same time per our request and everything was served hot and fresh. We will go back, but will not order their Sangria again!
I have recommended this restaurant. And all have liked it. I would Luke if they paid attention to the open table reservations. Each time they say we didn’t show. That gets annoying. Plus this last time was my spouses birthday. I would have liked a happy birthday said. Enjoy the oysters. They serve very fresh. All the food is good.
Another great meal! I had the fish and chips, which were exceptional. My friend had the shrimp Mac and cheese and it was excellent. You can not beat this place for the reasonable pricing!
Second visit with poor service. There likely will not be a third.
Amazing oysters! You need to try the Buffalo Ousters and Ruby Salts!
Th servers were very knowledgeable and attentive. The food and cocktails were excellent but the food was a little pricey.
Not the best experience and food was bland.
Our server was very good . (Sophia)
Our food was good.
The way the restaurant looked inside very poor,
It looked to us looked a newly remolded McDonalds.
Stopped in for lunch. We had the Crab Sandwich, Lobster Roll, and Linguini with Clams. Everyone loved their meal. Service was attentive and friendly. We have eaten at Saltbox before and will be back again. Highly recommend. This is a Willow Lawn gem.
I had visited Salt Box for lunch and enjoyed my crabcake sandwich and fries. But, my dinner as well as my friends' dinners were nothing special. The worst item to report is that there was a horrible gas smell or paint smell that became more toxic as the evening rolled along. It must be coming from the down draft when cooking on the grill, but, whatever it is, needs to be researched and taken care of. Otherwise, customers will not return to your restaurant.
Had a good time. I recommend giving it a try. Oysters were great with a great selection. They were a bit overpriced though. Probably the most I’ve spent on a oyster.
It was disappointing because we went on Father's Day. They had a special (very limited )menu. We had appetizers, the steamed oyster special, and left. The menu was so limited compared to what was on the website that we did not want any of the entrees (there were 4 of us). It was not announced on the website that the menu would be limited.
