Amazing cocktails. Can be noisy (adjacent table had a lot of young children). Seafood dishes were very fresh. Server was knowledgeable about the different types of oysters. Kids' entrees were generous and just as nice as the adult entrees; my 9yr old daughter was very pleased with her salmon and appreciated the nicer options rather than the usual chicken tenders and fries.

Went at 5:00 for the Thanksgiving brunch. The food was very good but obviously not their normal menu. Oysters were exceptional as usual. Staff was attentive. we were given way more food than we could eat, we brought home a large to go box which was full!

Food was great. We really appreciated how Mariah(our server) intentionally changed the restaurant tempo to a family dinner, take your time, tempo. I even had pie and then she brought me more turkey. 😁

I will say, we love Saltwood & have dined many times for dinner & brunch. We were so excited to spend Thanksgiving at Saltwood & it was a huge let down. Upon sitting at the table, we ordered drinks and it took 30 minutes for them to arrive. The staff was preoccupied chatting amongst themselves to actually take care of guests. We had to ask for bread & then when it came they didn’t bring butter. We had to ask multiple staff before it arrived. The salad, soup & oysters were the only tasty items we enjoyed all night. The main meal was bland, dry & cold. In addition, they brought it out family style with little to no meat. We left hungry. The deserts were standard nothing outstanding. Let’s just say we’ll be skipping Saltwood next Thanksgiving.

We had a beautiful relaxing thanksgiving dinner. The staff was friendly and professional. Caleb went above and beyond to ensure that we had everything that we needed. Our server Jess was attentive, friendly and unobtrusive at the same time. The food was delicious and original. Chef Rodrigues was all over the restaurant with a smile on his face making sure everything was going smoothly. We will return often!

We went for the Thanksgiving "Buffet" however I would not class the meal as a buffet at all. Did not like how the main course needed to be ordered but shared. Our main was cold when the sides arrived and for a party of 5 adults, it wasn't sufficient. We left hungry. On the positive, oysters were amazing, the entertainment was good and not overcrowded. Too bad we did not receive better service/attention.

We have gone to SaltWood once a year for our pre Thanksgiving meal with friends I think 5-6 years now. Its a pleasure as usual. Though I am disappointed that the Pork chop dish was dropped and they no longer serve Alvarado street Pilsner. I don’t own or run the place but I think I would ask my clients first. I do wonder why the music in the background has to be SO LOUD! 🙄

I have been there several times with multiple people and go back because of the ambience. The food has always been good but expensive and, I find their dinner menu quite limited. What was extremely disappointing last night was that one of our five ordered fish and chips which is served with about a tablespoon of tartar sauce and ketchup. When the guest asked for more tartar sauce they were told it would cost a $1. When you’re paying $33 for fish and chips, you shouldn’t have to pay a dollar a tablespoon for more tartar sauce! I ordered the Calabria and crab appetizer which is described as crab, Calabrian chilies, eggplant, artichoke and Panko. When it came it was 95% pasta in the sauce were you could certainly taste the Calabrian chilies but I found one piece of eggplant and couldn’t identify any artichokes. The crab was sprinkled on top. It was tasty but I couldn’t believe it wasn’t described on the menu as a pasta dish. Draft beers don’t come in a pint but in a smaller glass, and their wine servings are skimpy. All of the five guests in our party are wine drinkers and we didn’t recognize any of the red or white wines available on the wine list. The servers in the manager were very pleasant and accommodating. All in all very disappointing. It seems whoever owns the restaurant is trying to save money the wrong ways.

My husbands food was good but my beet and sunchoke salad came w 4 - 1” cubes of beets and not a single sunchoke. It did come w some grilled (overdressed) lettuce I don’t think that was even in the description on the menu. Also, it was cold all the way thru and since we were there 30 minutes after Saltwood opened I can assume it was yesterdays (or before) lettuce. The olive bread could have been good but it was literally soaked in butter, not edible. I asked waitress about salad and she did not know about the sunchoke …. She was nice, it was not her fault that the dinner was a fail. Very sad dinner for me.

Seems like the place gets going and it has a nice steady flow. Wonderful establishment. We will be back and we will recommend this Restraunt to others

Our food was inedible. Husband started with 6 oysters which were improperly shucked and full of shell. His crab eggs Benedict was ice cold and was returned to the kitchen. Our server asked him if he wanted a new one fired or the current dish warmed. New eggs Benedict was not much warmer. Our son’s burger was inedible and cold as well. The fish in my tacos was cold and the flour tortillas were stale and crunchy. We tried to find a manager but no one was at the stand when we left. Tried calling as soon as we left to talk to a manager and were told the restaurant was closed so they transferred us to the hotel front desk. It’s such a shame as we were really excited to visit.

Food has gone downhill- pricing was very high for what was received. Caesar salad with out anchovies? No price reduction. Gluten free bread was disgusting. Restaurant wanted to charge for extra bread with choppino? Just odd. Pork belly dish had great flavor- but the pork belly was all fat. Third time here and we won’t be back.

Eclectic dishes offered! Octopus and clams were delicious as was the Caesar salad as starters. Fish and chips included nice size fresh fish portions but were slightly over cooked. Chips were large potato wedges that were perfectly cooked and tasty. Nice selections of wines. Service was spotty and seemed uncoordinated. Mussels were brought to the table instead of clams for one of our party of four. Water refills were offered and ordered but got forgotten. I was missing a dinner fork so ate fish and chips with my fingers as a requested fork never arrived. All things considered, the restaurant had gotten busy and the service errors were not enough to mar our dining experience. We would enjoy going to Salt Wood Kitchen & Oysterette again.

Lighting was a bit on the bright side given the potential for a seaside ambiance. The host was cold but pleasant. Not a good start when you arrive for the first time. Seated in the back corner near the door. 2nd strike. Did not get a cozy feel or ambiance at all. So much potential wasted on poor design and setting. Probably would have been better off sitting at the bar lol. The toasted olive bread was fantastic with the flavored butter. Ok, so maybe slight recovery. Oyster menu had 1 oyster origin available. Virginia in this case. For a place that calls itself an oysterette with only 1 type of oyster on the half shell available, that was strike 3. So I never bothered with the oyster since the waitress was unfamiliar with it and I prefer west coast or PEI and BC over East coast. I ordered the Cioppino instead. Served LUKEWARM. Foul ball and another strike. If you cannot serve cioppino piping hot and steaming, then you should change your menu or the chef. If I hadn’t ordered extra olive bread to go with it, I would not have eaten as much. They did bring a complimentary salt caramel ice cream which was decent. Based on my experience, I would not return and after reading this review prior to posting, I actually changed the rating to 2 stars instead of 3 because a cold soup and 1 oyster on the menu is simply uncivilized, lol. Then on the way to the toilets, there is a nice warm fireplace with only 2 seats. Ok, another failure in design etiquette. I would only come here if I had to for an invitation or business event. I would not pay for a meal here again. Too bad.

Our second time at Salt Wood Kitchen, this time with friends & family (party of 6). Much busier (September instead of March) than last time. The food was really good, but the service was a bit slow. Of course, in these times, I do understand that finding and retaining help is difficult, so we will be back the next time we are in the area.

We just LOVED how accommodating they are to dogs. Our dogs are our babies and we love taking them out with us. Such a treat for them to have dinner WITH us! The doggy menu is wonderful. Our two enjoyed the grilled chicken, rice and veggies. Our food was also delicious! The beet citrus salad was amazing, and of course the oysters. We found the cocktails were good but a bit pricey at $18 each!

Stayed at Sanctuary Resort for 2 nights and ate at Salt Wood both nights out of convenience and lack of alternative choices as we have a baby in the room. The food is not good at all. Oysters were mushy and obviously not all fresh. Cioppino was bland. Fish and Chip was over battered and Chips was hard as a rock.

We love Saltwood. Ambiance is beautiful, but probably wouldn’t be back for brunch in the future. Pretty overpriced for very small amounts of food. Also signature cocktails are pricey for what you get as well. Our server was great, but the other staff didn’t seemed trained and they weren’t all dressed the same so it was a little confusing when someone comes out with food wearing a hoodie lol. Host was all over the place and there was a long line to get seated for reservations although no one was in the restaurant. Again, great place / we brought out of town guests and I wouldn’t do it again for brunch.

I had watched the Simply Ming program showcase your restaurant and was delighted to see that there was a quality eatery here in Monterey, one that I had not been too. I went there for our anniversary and my expectations were high. The waiter (Daniel) was excellent, the hostess was condescending and offensive, of course she was just an inexperienced kid. The food was delicious, but the portions were minimal, a sign of a pretentious view of your customers. It was overrated and overpriced. I don’t mind paying, but I don’t appreciate feeling like a mark when I leave.

Ambience is wonderful, food is pretty good but the service was very poor. One of our party ordered a burger rare, it came out well done, when we told the server all he commented was that yeah that is well done. No comp on our bill or an apology. Had to ask for salt and pepper, had to flag down a server anytime we wanted another drink or any attention.
