Best service: two people checking on our table. Best food: I had avocado toast for the first time. Tangy pickled bits mixed in. A great salad to start that was practically a meal in itself. Again, complex flavors well put together. It was a prix fixe meal that included a Mimosa. Best meal of the year. It couldn't have been better. I like the open seating and it was fun to watch oysters being grilled at the bar.
Love sitting at the bar! Service was outstanding, as were the hand crafted cocktails and food. Loved the love music. Favorite place to dine for a special treat.
After going through a bad spell from the change to new management at the beginning of the year, our recent visit was the best in a long time. The food was excellent! The service, while still slow (particularly for bar drinks) is cheerful and enthusiastic.
We really do love this restaurant.
Service was slow and they stuck us in the bar even though we had a reservation
From the freshest raw oysters to the pork belly crab Mac cheese to the ciopinno- perfect! Wine selections- amazing. Waiter- the best. Very friendly!
On the positive side, the food we ordered was very good. We had the ceviche and chips to start and the cowboy steak for two for our entree. The time it took to get our appetizer and entrees was almost perfect.
On the not so positive side, our server forgot my husband's cocktail. We came to the restaurant specifically to have the whole trout dish only to be told they ran out of it that morning. Also, the bread we were served was burnt around the edges.
For a restaurant that is considered high end I would expect the service to be better than it was.
Wonderful food! Shrimp and grits was fantastic!
Lovely ambiance inside (the outside tables look out over a parking lot) with fresh, modern beach/wood themed interior and open kitchen. Food was excellent. Service also. Excellent brunch with live (but not overly obtrusive) music.
Our party of 6 went for Sunday brunch. The menu is interesting, the presentation nicely done. Our wait person was polite, and fairly efficient but would disappear for long stretches. Back staff was helpful. for me the major disappoint was that the crab Benedict was lukewarm at best. It had good flavor but because of the delay in receiving it I realized I did not have time to send it back, or I would have. The three other dishes ordered (we had a couple of duplicates) were Croque Madam, was good, chicken and waffles, only okay (previous visits the chicken was boneless and preferred), the winner was biscuits with duck gravy. Very good as was sampled by everyone. I would go back because the menu is unique enough. I am hoping this was just a one off day.
Nice place great decor good food. Oysters were over priced but delicious.
One of our favorite restaurants on the peninsula. This was our first time here for brunch. All of our entries were outstanding. Had oysters for our appetizer, the cocktails were fabulous as well as all our entries
Great selection of oysters, served either on the half shell or grilled. Service was great. The menu provides a good variety of choices, even for picky eaters. Everything was fresh and tasty.
Service was slow and the food was very salty. The only enjoyable part of the meal were the oysters
We were staying at The Sanctuary Resort, and had our 36th Anniversary dinner at The Salt Wood Kitchen and Oysterette.
I was a little confused about the seating as it was adjacent to the bar. When I asked about it our server Zak said they placed us there because it’s a quiet spot. He offered to move us, but we decided to stay put. It actually was a quiet spot, and we enjoyed that!
Food was excellent. We had a steak meal for two. I believe it was called “The Cowboy Steak” and it was delicious! We prefer it medium rare. Our server Zac suggested medium as medium rare is pretty rare. Glad we took his advice on that one
too. He also suggest a delicious wine. Very helpful!
We were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary dessert for our Anniversary.
Overall a great experience.
The food was amazing. There were 4 of us. The oysters & the sauces/garnish were delicious. We all really enjoyed our meals
(lamb, rib-eye for 2, oxtail fettuccine, chocolate creme brûlée, strawberry shortcake). The service, however, was VERY slow. We finally walked up to the bar to ask if our drink order had been received. Our waiter was very pleasant but didn’t follow through with a couple of our basic requests... drink refill, Bread, horse radish, etc. We waited for almost an hour from the time we ordered our meal for it to get to the table. It would have been understandable had the restaurant been really busy but it was an average Sat. night. It was busy but there were available tables, it wasn’t packed. I would rate our experience 5 stars had the service been better. The food was worth giving it another try when I’m in the area again.
Food was amazing but the service was horrible. Waited 15 just to get our drinks. One of the meals we ordered sat for 10 minutes before she brought it (and she only brought it because we had to point it out that it was sitting there and he was waiting for his dinner) thank God the food was good.
Everything was good. Nice ambience and good service. Salmon was a little flavorless. Cappuchino was warm only. Fairly limited menu and pretty expensive.
Great food and great service - would definitely come back again
Saltwood's chef creates unique and delicious starters, salads, entrees and desserts. It's tough to choose among them! Service is friendly and professional from beginning to end. Thank you.
Stayed at The Sanctuary. Every single thing we tried here was over the top delicious.
Food and service were great. The brunch menu was a good mix and had something for everyone. The room was a bit loud with a small live music set going nearby but not too distracting.
The bad was all on Open Table as a reservation system. When I tried to add a few more to the reservation I got back a message that there were no more reservations available to move up to a total of eight so my nephews stayed home, once we got there we were sat at an 8 top after all and there was another unseated 8 top open. Needless to say it made me look like a jerk. Great impression for my first (and last) time using Open Table.
This was an excellent dining experience for my wife and I who were in the Monterey area for a business conference. We received exceptional service from Zack, and the food was terrific. I got the smoked duck drumstick appetizer, and it was outstanding. Great taste, and the accompanying sauce was unique and delicious. My wife got the crab mac and cheese appetizer, and it was over the top as well. Our entrees were prepared perfectly, and the wine list was well crafted and easy to follow. Would definitely recommend, and we will visit them again on our next trip to the area.
Food was delicious
Awesome place to dine while staying at the Sanctuary Beach Resort. Food was very fresh....the fish for 2 deal was a huge favorite of ours.
First time trying oysters (grilled) and they were amazing! The very friendly waiter offered lots of suggestions and everything was great that he recommended. Will love to go again! Price tag a bit high for dinner on vacation but worth the splurge.
Salt Wood was definitely overall a great experience. We had brunch and dinner there the same day. The food was delicious (Croque Madame, Avacado Toast, Tempura Ribs, Short Rib) yet, it was overpriced. The cocktail menu looked enticing, but the drinks I ordered were not great..they missed ingredients (Mac Caddy) and watery (Kentucky Iced Tea). My friend had the one served in the copper bird. It was really good.
approximately third or fourth time here...continues to impress - service a little slow at first but packed restaurant and bar - in the end, delicious food with beautiful presentation, great drinks and atmosphere - will definitely recommend and return, however not cheap!
We were traveling down the Coast of California and stayed at The Sanctuary for one night! Dinner and breakfast were DELICIOUS! We will be back!
It was a pleasant surprise. Some reviews have mentioned that it was pricey. Based on the quality of the food and the string it is not. $24 for a burger it’s just something you may not want to spend in a daily or weekly basis. Was everything I tried great...no. However, nothing was bad. The Special Tempura Ribs (Excellent) and the Burger (Great)...The shrimp and grits...(OK). Nonetheless, I have had the same experience in Santa Barbara, Monterey, Carmel, San Francisco, and LA. So, to have this option near me in Marina and not have to travel so far away...priceless.
Excellent service. Specialized elitist food items. Not standard common food. Be prepared for quality upscale pallet tastes.
We had a great time ! The food was delicious and the atmosphere amazing!
We did have a spectacular dinner and really enjoyed the ambiance. Unfortunately, the evening ended with a thud instead of an explanation point. When I booked the reservation on Open Table, I indicated we were going to Salt Wood to celebrate my wife’s birthday. I also told this to the waitress when we first seated and my wife had gone to the restroom. The waitress apparently was reassigned to the main dining room whereas we were seated in the less formal room. Basically, I was expecting a candle on the dessert and/or some acknowledgment. This did not happen. Instead, I left with a feeling that we were shunted to the less important dining area and that two separate messages about the import of the occasion were, likewise, ignored.
Beautiful location and nice atmosphere. There is a cooking area in the center of the bar where they prepare the bread and oysters. The service and food were great.
A good not great restaurant. The price of the food and cocktails is not worth the very average ambiance.
I really enjoy this restaurant but on a Friday night it was LOUD! Far too loud to have a conversation. I'll return but not on a weekend.
I've been here 3 or 4 times in the last year. This was one of the best meals I've had there and service was great. I do think the prices are a bit out of line for the overall experience, but otherwise, it's all positive!
Great food, everything was not only tasty but absolutely beautiful. The Oysters were outstanding!
Service was a bit slow, but it was a busy weekend with the Concours event in town. Since our last visit over a year ago, the brunch menu has been updated slightly with a couple new offerings and an innovative new twist on the shrimp and grits dish. Very flavorful, with lots of unique flavors and textures. Ambiance was negatively impacted by the table next to us, where one of the diners was openly vaping during his meal (who does this?!). This was rude beyond belief, and no fault of the restaurant. When we brought it to the management's attention, it was addressed promptly and we were moved. It did seem like the front desk was skeptical of my complaint at first, given the way I was spoken to when I first brought the issue to their attention.
Unique Menu: varied and interesting
Great Ambiance-light and relaxing
Service Abnormally Slow
Brunch Took Two Hours
Kitchen Used “First In Order/Last Order Served”
Nice protected Dog Friendly Patio Seating
Food good, service awful! Waiter was slow with long waits to check on us. Kitchen was slow with 30 minute wait from appetizer finish till entres served. One entry, a cowboy steak for 2 @ $105 came out barely warm with both sides cold. Waiter blamed late service in the steak, said it took a while, then it comes out cold! Manager had a cocky arrogance addressing addressing the issue. Did comp the steak and dessert. But of course we get service settings for dessert and told the desserts will be right out, and over 20 minutes later they show up. They were assemble desserts, no last minute bake so no excuse!
