  • Good for special occasions
  • Innovative
  • Good for groups
Just northwest of bustling Los Angeles, Salt is a sophisticated restaurant that offers pastoral Californian cuisine. Salt prides itself on its farm-fresh ingredients, many of which are obtained from local farmer's markets and ranchers. With dishes boasting all-natural, grass-fed beef, sustainable seafood and crisp, brightly colored vegetables, Salt provides only the best ingredients for health-conscious diners. Chef David Iino has worked in numerous prestigious kitchens along the West Coast. With his many accolades, he aims to serve a diverse menu that stays true to the basics. Light lunches featuring sandwiches and garden-fresh salads are available throughout the day. In the evening, guests can enjoy savory, satisfying meals like meatloaf, salmon, steak or pork chops. Salt's desserts include classics such as bread pudding as well as originals like the Salt Banana.

WORST SERVICE EVER!!! Sat for 15 minutes without ever seeing a server or being greeted by anyone other than the busboy. Had to ask the busboy who our server was. Apparently it was the owner, who was also bar tending and taking care (or should I say neglecting) 8 tables. When the busboy tried to tell him that our table needed attention the owner brushed off the busboy and continued talking to friends. We walked out.

Food was very good. Appetizers our group had were the beet/ goat cheese which was excellent. The Mac n cheese we also had as an appetizer to share was amazing. Arch choke was ok. Main courses: white fish was excellent. As was flat iron steak and turkey meatloaf. Seafood stew was good but not exceptional. Drinks were excellent. The salt banana for dessert was so good we ordered more. Overall a highly recommended establishment for real gourmet style modern American food. We will be back.

I was very very disappointed to find the restaurant closed after they approved my reservation and I drove all the way from Van Nuys to Calabasas!!! I called the owner later that day and he said that he is busy with dinned and will call me back but he never did. That is not professional and not acceptable.

The decor is artsy industrial, but it pretty much feels like a big room at the end of a strip plaza. Management could add a little interest into the space by breaking it up and adding a wall or curtain to block the view back out to the strip plaza. The windows look onto a dumpster and the lower parking lot. The portions were large and the food was solidly prepared and presented, but a few of the menu items seem to be trying a little too hard to impress. On the Saturday night we dined there early at 6:45pm, they were out of the Ribeye (one of two steaks on the menu) and also didn't have any mint on hand to make a mojito. They have a decent lineup of beers at the bar and some nice cocktails. This would be a decent spot to take kids, especially since it wasn't loud and crowded. Overall, I think they are going for "hip" and cool, but there are better options in Old Town Calabasas, Malibu or Westlake Village.

I thought this place was okay and served it's purpose for the evening. My boyfriend and I were driving from Los Angeles to meet his parents and his parents were driving from Ventura so we thought this restaurant was a good mid-point. The restaurant was pretty empty and it was very good for conversation. The service was good. The food was hit and miss. The calamari and dessert of the smores were good. However I thought the halibut was not that great. I personally would not go out of my way to eat here but if you're in the area it does the job.

In addition to the delicious food -- try the short rib pot roast special on Fridays and Saturdays -- this place has one of the best bars with hard-to-find delicious pours at reasonable prices. A real hidden gem.

This was our second visit to Salt and a big disappointment. While the food was fine, the AC was inadequate, the noise level was ridiculous due to a party they were having in the back room ( choose 1 Salt either a party room or dining room as you cannot have both ) and a non impressive wine list with a Pinot that was so bad and so warm we sent it back. Please somebody open a restaurant with good good and wine in Calabasas!!! We are desperately in need. Salt has potential but just misses the point.

We had dined at SALT once before and it was excellent. This time, the artichoke was delicious, but the turkey on the salad was rock hard and the server did not get our orders correct. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and comfortable. The salad was very disappointing.
