Wonderful, authentic Italian food set in an intimate setting. Warm and friendly staff make you feel right at home. Book ahead -- it fills up fast. It's not a big space, but well worth it. Loved it!

It's one of those places that you think that maybe you don't want to review or share with the world, but they deserve the review. Absolutely wonderful experience. Great, authentic food and great service and atmosphere. Be sure to make reservations. Love that the menu changes so you can always find a new delight.

We were on vacation in Hawaii and were able to make a reservation at Sale Pepe. We were thrilled with the whole experience. Truly the food was some of the best we had while on Maui, and we tried a number of excellent restaurants. The Italian food was as good as any we have had in Italy!

This restaurant serves Great Italian food including super pizzas and pastas!! The aromas from the kitchen were mouth watering!!! It is hard to find these flavours on Maui! I would recommend this restaurant but make a RESERVATION as they are really busy!!

We got smart this time and split items as to taste even more dishes! The Gorgonzola cheese is creamy and a fantastic start. We then drifted to the bruchetta's and had the tomato, chicken liver (it sounds weird but delicious!) and the pancetta over a warm hummus. Each order was piled high and two pieces, so plenty for everyone to taste. Then we had a fight over the salad.......the romaine with the lemon dressing was a huge hit and others were gloating over their local green. I still think I won. We then went to various pasta and pizza's of which I was not in on. I stuck with the appetizer size of eggplant parm and for the second time was very happy. The only critique I would give the first visit was the size of the pour for the wine. We fixed that the second visit and ordered very reasonable bottles of wine that were delicious. Overall, am very excited to have a new Italian favorite that I can actually afford with great food and service. Can't wait to go back!

We are frequent visitors to Maui and excited to try new places. Lahaina has very few good options, so we when we read the reviews for this restaurant we worried that it could not be a good as they say - and it was, it was great! Our waiter was patient and encouraging with our orders. The menu is straightforward with options to please everyone. We loved the pizza, Napoli style crust. The pasta special with saffron and speck. Excellent calamari and bruschetta. They do not over sauce the pasta and its so fresh, it tastes like Italian food should. The interior is very simple and understated but it perfect for an informal evening in Maui.

We were looking for a "local experience" and found Sale Pepe on line. True Italian food including some of the best Pizza we have ever had, including in NYC and New Jersey. Service is outstanding from the moment you walk in the door and the prices are reasonable for the quality of the food and the fact it is Maui. A must do if you are in the the area.

When you get tired of fish, this is the place. When you want pizza, this is the place. When you want to see some locals out, this is the place. Tucked away behind the Lahaina Foodland (park in its lot for $5), Sale Pepe serves excellent pastas and thin crust pizzas. There are extensive specials every day. From spaghetti and meatballs to squid ink pasta with clams, it's all good. The staff are all great. Friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We enjoyed it three times in two weeks.

Although we had dinner resv we sat at the bar. The bartender, Rachel, and the entire staff were very friendly and made our dining experience memorable. The wedge Caesar's salad was fresh and a great starter. I had the mussel's entree... YUMMMM! Can't wait to return to Maui so I can dine there again! Thank you Sale Pepe for making my 50th birthday celebration so special!

2nd trip to Sal Pepe I last 2 weeks. Prices for Maui are Resonable, our food was tasty and both meals started with the brick oven pizza as an appetizer. We will try other appetizers on our next trip. We had 2 different servers on our two trips to Sale Pepe and both were very friendly and got our orders correct with no rush. This is now are favorite restaurant on Maui due to price, service and food. The only thing I would have enjoyedto would be asmall basket of Italian bread, but that is minor considering our love for this restaurant.

The best Italian restaurant!!! I love their Risotto, Tomato&Basil Pizza, Appetizers, Desserts, etc. Everyone has to try this GEM! This is my fourth time here and never disappointed (I also did pizza take out and it was fabulous) Will be back real soon.

I would highly recommend this restaurant. If you can survive the parking challenge and the small dining area, the food will make it worthwhile. Suggest reservations, especially on weekend nights, a popular spot that fills up fast.

This is an authentic Italian Restaurant. The type food I grew up on, with my grandparents immigrating from Northern Italy. The so-called Italian-American fanatic, might be disappointed. The options were vast with Pastas, Pizzas and Meat, Poultry and Fish. I ordered the Kale Pesto at the recommendation of the waitress. I am a pesto (sweet basil without cream) fan. The pasta was excellent, definitely home made and the Kale Pesto was better than I expected. I want the recipe so I can make it at home. We ordered several antipasti plates salami & Cheese, Meatballs (just like my Mom's) and Calamari. Glad to have a true Italian Restaurant in Lahaina and will go back again and again when in Maui.

Everything was excellent! Not on the main Front St. so have to look for it. Small place so recommend reservations. Ask for the most romantic table in the restaurant - it was perfect. Will definitely return!!

Not sure...but they are certainly trying to earn that reputation. Small on size inside but big on service & food quality. Don't be fooled into thinking this is just another pizza place. Far from it! While the pizzas are fantastic...& very affordable....it's their fresh made pasta that I think rocks this place! I had the squid ink pasta with black mussels. OMG! Mussels were tender, not chewy & seasoned to perfection. The pasta was incredible. Portions are generous & nicely presented. It's tucked away in the Foodland shopping center.....where the old KFC used to be...behind Longhi's. Most diners that night were locals because it's off Front St....but go where the locals go! Our server, Patricia, was incredible! A MUST VISIT - john & beth

It is very hard to find an Italian restaurant which makes any of its own pasta, let alone all of its pasta, including lasagna noodles. My pasta dish was perfect! We thought we were in Italy as we ate the superb pizza. I have been talking all the locals who would listen to go to Sale Pepe.

It's not what you think about when you head to Hawaii but we love Italian so we stopped in and the food was great. We would definitely go back again. Simple ingredients, no frills pizza but super tasty.

We were too tired to leave the hotel, but a coworker spoke so highly of Sale Pepe that we forced ourselves to go, and it was wonderful! The calamari was delicious, crispy, and not greasy. The pizza with the egg was outstanding, and the lasagne very tasty. Service was friendly and attentive. Definitely will be the go-to place for dinner next time we are in the area.

This is a good Italian Restaurant, small and with great food. Reservations are a must. Only problem is the online menu that they post is not the menu in the restaurant. They change the menu constantly, and what you saw online and came in to order, is not necessarily on the menu. There is enough there to satisfy anyone and it was a great experience. Will definitely come back again.

This was my (our) second visit to the restaurant and as Sinatra sang "It's better the 2nd time around". It is fun to explore all the foods on the menu or specials listed on the chalkboard. The staff is almost family and want to make sure everything is to your pleasing! Go!

We're just back from some time off-island, and every friend we caught up with has asked us if we've been to Sale Pepe. Now we have and it is terrific! The salads are fresh and local, the pastas are distinct, and the pizzas hot and tasty. The restaurant is small, so the menu is limited, but there's a distinctive range of small plates, thoughtful flavors and textures, and sharable options. The service is enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and the ambience is casual and friendly. It has the feel of a local secret in a town in Lombardia or Emilia Romagna, the kind of place one looks for but can never find when in Italy. Reservations help, it fills up fast, but you'll feel welcome while you wait.

The food was good. There was a lot of activity where we sat which was uncomfortable. It took away from from our enjoyment even though we loved the food. It did take a while to get some water after we were seated. Our server was very nice and explained the menu to us.

This is a new little Italian place with real Italian dishes, not the typical Italian places I've visited in the past. The service is excellent! We had dinner there 3 times in 2 weeks if that tells you anything…..it was that good!
