Salar Ratings and Reviews
It was disappointing, the deep fried pork belly was amazing but not on the menu. The menu was kinda ordinary without it...prices went up considerably too. Even with a reservation, we were seated by the kitchen, lots of noise and traffic. Not exactly how we wanted to celebrate our special night out.
Very good food and the bar service was excellent. We had a reservation yet when we arrived (on time), we were told there were no tables ready, although we saw a handful of 2 person tables available. We let the hostess know we would be at the bar while waiting; 15 mins later we made the call to eat at the bar and it was a great choice. The hostess never came to retrieve us for the table - I did have a text message, however I did not have my phone with me so I only saw it when we returned home. I would only suggest the hostess staff have a little more attention to detail on where customers with reservations are - don't rely on texting. It's also much more personal for the hostess staff to come to the bar and show you to your table.
We had some friends visiting from out of town that we wanted to take somewhere nice. We haven't been before but read good reviews.
The service was excellent. Our server was very attentive and had a great attitude. We ordered a few appetizers. The empanadas were delicious.
All four of our main courses were good, but nothing stood out. The quality was decent, but just not as impactful as one might expect for the money.
It seems anymore too many places have a menu that reads eclectic or extravagant, but with mediocre execution. This feels like one of those places.
Love this restaurant Worth the drive from Cincinnati. Every single dish served to our table was a hit. One issue-large halloween festival in Oregon district. Couldnt get near to park, got lost and didnt know how to get there as all streets were clised and had to walk seval blocks . Turned out to be fun seeing all the costumes, but I think the restaurant should have given us notice in advance.
Went out for a getaway before having our 3rd child and the waiter was good and accommodating - even brought us some cut veggies instead of some of the pita so my wife (who has gestational diabetes) could enjoy the hummus. We had great food and a great night!
Was recommended to us by a local Dayton business colleague. Made reservations on OpenTable for our party of 8 and were seated immediately. Great menu and drink selection. If you can't get street parking, there is $3 paid parking very close by. In the historic downtown area with other restaurants, bars and breweries. We will definitely go there again.
I am vegetarian and was very disappointed in my meal which was the quinoa with mushroom bowl. The menu called for crispy potatoes on top (which may have been ok if they were thin crispy potatoes) but what I received was overcooked hard and unflavored French fries on top. It was the worst vegetarian meal and definitely not worth the price!!
Five of us enjoyed our food and cocktails or Rioja wine at Salar. Four of us had seafood: the scallops special, salmon and two with Catch of the day which was bream. My daughter had the lamb shank which looked terrific. We started with the calamari which were crisp on the outside yet very tender and the spectacular empanadas. We enjoyed all of our meals and the ability to linger at the table talking. The music was at first a bit loud in the "bubble room" but our server promptly turned it down for us. This area of the restaurant is quieter than in the bar area and is a bit brighter for those with need to have better light for reading menus.
We had a great server, Megan. The appetizers were delicious! Our meals were disappointing. I ordered the surf and turf. For $32, I received 2 shrimp, 1 scallop and a fillet. The food was cooked perfectly but it was cold! I was sooo disappointed! I think that dish is overpriced for what you get. My boyfriend ordered the pork chop but his dinner was lukewarm. :-(. My daughter and her boyfriend received beautiful dishes, cooked perfectly and warm. They ordered the salmon and the duck raviolis! I don’t know what happened at the kitchen that two of the meals were served cold. I’m still a fan and hope next time all is perfect like it was in the past.
Great food and cocktails. We hosted a business dinner for 9 and all were impressed. The empanadas started us off in the right direction. Next, several of us were impressed with the charred Ceasar Salad.
For my personal entrée I enjoyed the Ed Hill organic chicken, which was amazing. The meat was tender, with a very tasty mix of spices. For dessert, I had the cheesecake with peacan crust... Very, very good.
If you're in Dayton, definitely give Salar a try.
Everything was awesome from atmosphere to wait staff to to the food - they never missed a beat. Perfect ending to our Anniversary night. Being seated by the waterfall wall and complimentary champagne with raspberries. Thank you Salar for a great celebration dinner.
For our anniversary my wife and I went out to see a movie at the Neon theater, then walked to Salar for dinner. We were promptly seated and waited on. Our waiter was friendly, helpful and able to answer all our questions. For an appetizer we had the Yucca and Crab Causa. This was a large appetizer which was very good, but also filling. For dinner My wife had the Red Quinoa Encrusted Chile Sea Bass, and I had the Tierra Y Mar (Surf and Turf). We shared a bottle of the Kaiken Malbec. Both our meals were perfectly cooked. Everything about our dinner was great, but unfortunately we hit bottom and didn't have room for any dessert. Would highly recommend Salar. We are repeat customers. You won't be disappointed!
This was our second time at Salar and we love it...again. We met friends for dinner and were able to carry on a conversation without distractions from a noisy dining room or constant interruptions from the staff. Mark, our server, was very attentive, answering all our questions and even recommending a phenomenal cocktail for my pre-dinner enjoyment. Overall, a great way to spend a Friday evening out.
Had an excellent meal at Salar Friday night - I had the beef tenderloin, husband had the mixed seafood, and my friend had a salad with butternut squash and yucca cakes with seafood. The Peruvian spices are wonderful and unique. Mark provided wonderful service and the manager Lamar stopped by several times and helped with service. Great experience!
Didn't want to miss the wine tasting… Margot's creativity shines through with these events with every pairing tantalizing and/or delightful. Special bonus, I always find a new wine that I love. Variety of seating allows you to either meet people and dine seated at the conventional tables in the Twig Room or enjoy/ entertain friends in what feels to be your own living room in the Bubble Room.
Food was good, and service (what we got of it) was friendly, but way too slow. Had tickets for the Schuster Center. Allowed two hours, but it wasn’t enough (but apparently it was for the parties all around us that we saw arrive after us and leave - fully sated - before us). When our meals finally arrived, we had to inhale them, and certainly couldn’t enjoy them. We were clearly, at least by then - as I don’t think anyone was paying attention to us before then - in a rush, but no explanation, compensation or apology was proffered. Very disappointing experience, and not an inexpensive one, either.
For the prices Salar charges, one would expect higher quality food and service. The food was good, not great. Our seafood came out lukewarm and probably had been sitting under the lights for a while drying out until it came to our table. The wait staff was attentive but we had to ask to have out water glasses refilled.
First time dining. We were In Dayton from out of town for UD family weekend. Cool vibe, loved the decor and food selection. Waiter was attentive and well versed in the menu. Disappointed that restaurant was out of my son's first choice entree (beef saltado) - esp since this was a rare opportunity for him to eat something other than gross dorm food. It was only 6:30 pm, so kind of early to be running out of regular menu items. Otherwise, we had an enjoyable experience.
