Salar Ratings and Reviews
Wonderful! We've traveled to Peru for the food and this absolutely compared. Very interesting appetizers ,fabulous desserts and main courses , complementary homemade hummus appetizer with homemade crackers superb. Lovely service. Sorry Dayton Ohio is so far from our home in New Jersey
We have been to Salar several times and frankly we were a little disappointed on this occasion. We were there during restaurant week in Dayton and they seemed to be a little over-matched for the crowd that night. Our service was slow, and our food came out mildly warm, not hot which might suggest that it sat too long back in the kitchen. We have enjoyed all of our previous trips to Salar so maybe this was just an off night. We will go back again on a normal night to see if we have a better experience. That being said, the empanada's appetizer was and continues to be a home run as far as we are concerned.
Salar offers an exceptional experience in downtown Dayton. The staff are friendly, responsive, and professional. The atmosphere is relaxing and enjoyable with the exception of the odd street displays-of -attention. Foremost, the food is well selected and composed into elegant renditions of vaguely familiar dishes.
Slow service, restaurant was not that busy, and our drinks stayed far from full. We all would have had 3-4 glasses of wine, but since the waitress only came back for "must do" things, we all only ordered one extra drink which took 10mins to refill wines. Our entire experience took three hours. Food was cold, and way overpriced for what we received. This was our first time at this restaurant, and being a waitress in the past, I'm usually the queen of sympathy of why things could go wrong. But this whole experience was unenjoyable. Will not be returning.
Salar wasn't fantastic! My wife got thebpork chop and it was perfectly cooked, great seasoning, just great. I had the duck ravioli, very good as well. Smaller portion of you don't want anything too big. The wait staff was fantastic and the cocktails are all handcrafted and very well done. It can get a little cramped inside, but overall, a great experience
First of all, I need to describe my entree!!! My compliments to the chef! I had the Chilean sea bass. It was hot, flaky & succulent. It was encrusted with toasted red quinoa & served on a bed of sauteed leeks. Heaven! It was accompanied by cilantro rice & a spicy sauce.
Actually, everything was wonderful ...the appetizer, my husband's & my salad, & both of our entrees.
Our server was very professional, pleasant & efficient. A perfect evening!
Oh, one other thing, we had come before for drinks & thought the front patio & the front room with the bar was the whole place! We were surprised to see all the "hidden" places!
Everything was excellent, as usual, except for the service. The waitress seemed not to know the menu; she pretty much ignored us throughout the meal; and when my wife managed to get her attention to order a glass of wine, it did not arrive until we were finished with our meal.
Chef Margot never disappoints. Wine tasting had creative food with lovely pairings. I always discover a new favorite wine. And the venue is soooo versatile. People watch on the front Veranda. Or relax and kick back on the back patio. We chose the bubble room's inviting leather couches. The bar is always a fav. Have the empanadas with a hand crafted cocktail.
If you want a handcrafted Cocktail and be wowed by great bartenders this is the spot. I frequent Salar for the occasional dinner, but the last couple times, the service has been slow. Everyone is very friendly and knowledgeable though.
