Salar Ratings and Reviews
Great food and cocktails. We hosted a business dinner for 9 and all were impressed. The empanadas started us off in the right direction. Next, several of us were impressed with the charred Ceasar Salad.
For my personal entrée I enjoyed the Ed Hill organic chicken, which was amazing. The meat was tender, with a very tasty mix of spices. For dessert, I had the cheesecake with peacan crust... Very, very good.
If you're in Dayton, definitely give Salar a try.
Everything was awesome from atmosphere to wait staff to to the food - they never missed a beat. Perfect ending to our Anniversary night. Being seated by the waterfall wall and complimentary champagne with raspberries. Thank you Salar for a great celebration dinner.
For our anniversary my wife and I went out to see a movie at the Neon theater, then walked to Salar for dinner. We were promptly seated and waited on. Our waiter was friendly, helpful and able to answer all our questions. For an appetizer we had the Yucca and Crab Causa. This was a large appetizer which was very good, but also filling. For dinner My wife had the Red Quinoa Encrusted Chile Sea Bass, and I had the Tierra Y Mar (Surf and Turf). We shared a bottle of the Kaiken Malbec. Both our meals were perfectly cooked. Everything about our dinner was great, but unfortunately we hit bottom and didn't have room for any dessert. Would highly recommend Salar. We are repeat customers. You won't be disappointed!
This was our second time at Salar and we love it...again. We met friends for dinner and were able to carry on a conversation without distractions from a noisy dining room or constant interruptions from the staff. Mark, our server, was very attentive, answering all our questions and even recommending a phenomenal cocktail for my pre-dinner enjoyment. Overall, a great way to spend a Friday evening out.
Had an excellent meal at Salar Friday night - I had the beef tenderloin, husband had the mixed seafood, and my friend had a salad with butternut squash and yucca cakes with seafood. The Peruvian spices are wonderful and unique. Mark provided wonderful service and the manager Lamar stopped by several times and helped with service. Great experience!
Didn't want to miss the wine tasting… Margot's creativity shines through with these events with every pairing tantalizing and/or delightful. Special bonus, I always find a new wine that I love. Variety of seating allows you to either meet people and dine seated at the conventional tables in the Twig Room or enjoy/ entertain friends in what feels to be your own living room in the Bubble Room.
Food was good, and service (what we got of it) was friendly, but way too slow. Had tickets for the Schuster Center. Allowed two hours, but it wasn’t enough (but apparently it was for the parties all around us that we saw arrive after us and leave - fully sated - before us). When our meals finally arrived, we had to inhale them, and certainly couldn’t enjoy them. We were clearly, at least by then - as I don’t think anyone was paying attention to us before then - in a rush, but no explanation, compensation or apology was proffered. Very disappointing experience, and not an inexpensive one, either.
For the prices Salar charges, one would expect higher quality food and service. The food was good, not great. Our seafood came out lukewarm and probably had been sitting under the lights for a while drying out until it came to our table. The wait staff was attentive but we had to ask to have out water glasses refilled.
First time dining. We were In Dayton from out of town for UD family weekend. Cool vibe, loved the decor and food selection. Waiter was attentive and well versed in the menu. Disappointed that restaurant was out of my son's first choice entree (beef saltado) - esp since this was a rare opportunity for him to eat something other than gross dorm food. It was only 6:30 pm, so kind of early to be running out of regular menu items. Otherwise, we had an enjoyable experience.
We have dined here several times and really like the cocktails and the menu. Please don't forget to return to this restaurant once they recover from the tragic fire just days before New Year's Eve. Do your part to keep locally owned high quality restaurants in business.
First off the music was unbelievably loud, so loud that I had to scream at my wife (across a very small table mind you), in order to have a conversation. It was a bad start to the evening that really ruined the rest of the experience. That small table was also a problem in that once you're food arrived, there was limited space to put things and if you weren't careful, your dish would end up on the floor (and the table was uneven for added excitement). The food was only okay, we had the crab cake appetizer to start (these were the highlight of the night, so rich and full of flavor!). My wife got the seared scallops for her main dish while I got the duck ravioli. Both were underwhelming taste and portion - wise (especially for the price) and I found myself wishing we had ordered more crab cakes at the end of the evening.
Not the experience I was expecting or hoping for, given the good things I'd heard from co-workers. I do not see us going back again or recommending it to anyone else.
It was University of Dayton Parents Weekend, so perhaps SALAR was not ready for the out of towners, however our reservation was for 08:00 PM and we got our main course after 10! We were alerted that there was a backup, however this was much longer than expected. SALAR tried to make it right with free appetizer and comp'd a round of drinks, however a little more honesty up front would have helped.
We have been to SALAR before and were unpleasantly surprised as we looked forward to the experience. We may try again.
Seated at Bar high top with reservations, ok I'm short not their problem. Expecting fast drinks or service by sitting 8 ft from the bar...disappointed. Ordered starter but it never arrived. Two servers said they would "check on that" after our entrees were set down in front of us. Both times we said no thanks since you just served us entrees but we were still charged for it. Asked for dessert menu twice. During second 1/2 someone sitting at the bar was vaping very obviously vaping. I had to go up to the bar to get our check corrected. This was my 3rd experience here others were with large groups so I was underwhelmed but willing to come back. Food is pretty good but not great and experience was well below expectations.
Great, fun spot in The Oregon District! Their handcrafted cocktails are creative and good, very similar to what you'll find in other Peruvian restaurants. Our server was wonderful -- helpful, knowledgeable about everything on the menu! We took his suggestions and enjoyed it all. Dining outside was perfect as the inside seemed to lack any real appeal except the bar area, which was very active on a Thursday night. Fairly pricey, but the food quality and awesome service made up for that. We will definitely return - Dayton needs to improve its restaurant scene and Salar is one of the best we have found!
Our "foodie" friends recommended Salar for our anniversary dinner and it did not disappoint. The food was amazing! Creatively and expertly crafted, and beautifully presented. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and made excellent recommendations for perfect wine pairings. Great ambiance and perfect for our celebration. Can't wait to go back!
Been to Salar many times and will go back, but this time wasn't the best. I am pescatarian and my fish was served on a bed of bacon. One of our appetizers also had bacon. Neither identified bacon in the menu.
The apps were bigger than the server said, so we ordered too much food.
With tip it was about $90 per person. Too much for what we got.
I liked my visit and the server. The pace and service were excellent. The servers were, like professionals, just there and providing service as opposed to those in 'lesser' establishments where they seem to need to engage in an interrupting manner, or don't come around enough. The food was good, not great...but priced to be great. I had the surf and turf and the surf was quite good, the steak was...well...sort of steakhouse quality.
The appetizers (yucca), salad (corn) and dessert (mousse) were amazing. 4 out of 5 dinners were also delicious. The only one of us who was not impressed with his dinner had ordered surf & turf (said he thought it was cooked too much/too tough- had ordered medium). I told him he should have ordered something more interesting. This was only our second time there, and last time he had whatever was on the specials menu & loved it.
The service was great. They brought out complementary hummus & pita chips, and when we asked for something to dip in the hummus that was gluten free, they brought out sliced vegetables for dipping!
The restaurant is surprisingly large. We sat at a half booth in the back. The wine list is ok but I didn't recognize the wines on the list. We had a nice zin. We had two appetizers, one was the empendadas which were great. The other was the chicken one which was nice. The entrees were good size portions and all of them were very good.
