Salar has a Chef's table that will seat 8 with a view into the main line of the kitchen's production space.
Unfortunately we could not eat here for New Year's as there was a fire and it was closed.
A much needed date night turned out to be fabulous at Salar. Mark, our server, was attentive without being over solicitous and gave us great suggestions on what to order. Ambiance was cool and cozy. From start to finish we couldn’t have been more pleased with our dining experience.
Our waiter was knowledgeable and pleasant but was very chauvinist. The food was fabulous. Table for two was cramped and the lighting was too dark for my liking.
Great food. A little pricey but worth it for a special occasion. Our 2 adult children were home for Christmas and to celebrate mine and my husband's birthdays. I have to eat gluten free and there were many options to choose from. We had some specialty drinks that were very good. Our waiter was very knowledgeable. If the paella is gluten free we plan to go back on a Tuesday and give it a try.
This was our first time eating at the restaurant. We arrived on time and indicated that it was our first visit, that a friend recommended it. There were a lot of empty seats in the main area and it looked like pleasant venue. So we were taken through that area and seated in a very noisy hall way seating area in the back, with some very sound Christmas music. Our server was a little nervous and wanting to sell us on house specialty house drinks and appetizers. That is his job. We tried both. The drinks were very heavy on the ice. My wife's drink had a very large round ice ball that took up most of the glass. My drink had ice above the top. The appetizer was very hard to share and messy. The main course was the large double pork chop dinner. As we found out that it was served and cooked medium? My wife's chop was more medium to done. Looked good. Mine was medium to rare, with large piece of undercooked fat on the side. After a couple of bites I couldn't eat anymore. Please ask the server to have your pork more on the done side!
We eat out quite a lot. The expectation we had was a somewhat quiet dinner with a good conversation, good drinks and excellent food. This is what most people prefer. We left after an hour, noticed that the main area was now full with a very young crowd. If you are 35 or above this may not be your place.

This is our second time to dine at Salar. As usual it was great. The food is spectacular and the service is the best in Dayton. I highly recommend this restaurant for people who love great food and fine dining.
Great food, great service...in the heart of the Oregon District with valet parking (maybe weekends only?).
Signature drinks alone are worth the visit! Beautiful inside and employees were all very kind. We were just in for appetizers and drinks but everything tasted fantastic! The Pisco Sour is my new obsession. Also tried the whiskey smash that was just as good!
It was my birthday and I’m from Iowa but my boyfriend lives in Dayton. I found this gem via opentable and the food was outstanding and I had a wonderful evening.
The food was pretty good and very flavorful. However I didn’t like the seating arrangement. I had a reservation yet I was seated at the bar area. The bartender did his best to manage the bar and our table.
Only 3 stars this time.. Weekend dinner for 4, promptly seated into the full dining room.. noisy, holiday crowd, typical for the season.. but, appetizers & salads did not come out together, more like half & half.. The dinners came together, but the scallops were way under-cooked and our server didn't follow-up for over 10 minutes.. so, I'm glad they're busy but it won't stay that way with these basic flaws and not-basic prices. Bottle of wine + 2 apps + 2 salads + 4 entrees + tip = $200.
The music was a little hard to talk over, but the overall atmosphere was very nice. The service was very friendly—if more than a little distracted—and knowledgeable about not only the food but the area and town. The food itself was delicious and portioned conservatively, leaving the perfect amount of room for dessert. Why are you closed.
Food was spectacular and the service superb. Even acknowledged our anniversary with complimentary champagne and thanked us for being there for our occasion. Will definitely be back.
Food was very good with a variety of foods you don't typically see in Dayton.
Everything was done well (service, food, drinks, ambience). A bit pricey, but that won't stop us from returning.
Made a reservation for 3. Showed up with 5. Accommodated the additional people with ease and pleasure. Return trip definitely in order.

Enjoyed a last-minute, small plates dinner during the monthly First Friday event. Busy, but they seemed to keep everything going smoothly. The food was great, artfully presented. Friendly atmosphere!
Food has been great the two times I've been there. Amazing appetizers, amazing salads, amazing main dishes. Waiters/waitresses are quite knowledgeable too.
This has got to be my third or fourth review of my favorite restaurant. We went in a family group of seven people in town for Thanksgiving. It became apparent to our server that from people's questions about the menu, we had two vegetarians. Now, usually, once the appetizers are ordered, some pita and hummus arrives compliments of the house (about two plates for seven people). We ordered a few appetizers (none vegetarian available), but the server held off bringing the hummus until she served the appetizers--and she put the hummus in front of the two vegetarians! Very observant, very smart and very appreciated.
We all loved our entrees, including vegan options and had a most lovely meal. I cannot recommend this restaurant too highly.
It was disappointing, the deep fried pork belly was amazing but not on the menu. The menu was kinda ordinary without it...prices went up considerably too. Even with a reservation, we were seated by the kitchen, lots of noise and traffic. Not exactly how we wanted to celebrate our special night out.

Great food and service from Alex, but we were seated in the back at a table that was right on top of the tables on either side of us. No need to stuff tables in like that...really took away from an otherwise good meal!

First time on Tuesday , the entire experience was fantastic. Food , drinks and service were exceptional . Will absolutely be back again !
Very good food and the bar service was excellent. We had a reservation yet when we arrived (on time), we were told there were no tables ready, although we saw a handful of 2 person tables available. We let the hostess know we would be at the bar while waiting; 15 mins later we made the call to eat at the bar and it was a great choice. The hostess never came to retrieve us for the table - I did have a text message, however I did not have my phone with me so I only saw it when we returned home. I would only suggest the hostess staff have a little more attention to detail on where customers with reservations are - don't rely on texting. It's also much more personal for the hostess staff to come to the bar and show you to your table.
This was the first time Ruth and I ate at Salar. Great food. Great ambiance. Brook, our server, was great. We will be going back soon.

We had some friends visiting from out of town that we wanted to take somewhere nice. We haven't been before but read good reviews.
The service was excellent. Our server was very attentive and had a great attitude. We ordered a few appetizers. The empanadas were delicious.
All four of our main courses were good, but nothing stood out. The quality was decent, but just not as impactful as one might expect for the money.
It seems anymore too many places have a menu that reads eclectic or extravagant, but with mediocre execution. This feels like one of those places.

Love this restaurant Worth the drive from Cincinnati. Every single dish served to our table was a hit. One issue-large halloween festival in Oregon district. Couldnt get near to park, got lost and didnt know how to get there as all streets were clised and had to walk seval blocks . Turned out to be fun seeing all the costumes,but I think the restaurant should have given us notice in advance.
Went out for a getaway before having our 3rd child and the waiter was good and accommodating - even brought us some cut veggies instead of some of the pita so my wife (who has gestational diabetes) could enjoy the hummus. We had great food and a great night!
This was our first time and we really liked it. We would go back when visiting Dayton again.
Was recommended to us by a local Dayton business colleague. Made reservations on OpenTable for our party of 8 and were seated immediately. Great menu and drink selection. If you can't get street parking, there is $3 paid parking very close by. In the historic downtown area with other restaurants, bars and breweries. We will definitely go there again.
The food and service was excellent! The handcrafted cocktails were a surprise and very tasty. Great place to take customers. I will definitely go back.
I am vegetarian and was very disappointed in my meal which was the quinoa with mushroom bowl. The menu called for crispy potatoes on top (which may have been ok if they were thin crispy potatoes) but what I received was overcooked hard and unflavored French fries on top. It was the worst vegetarian meal and definitely not worth the price!!
Five of us enjoyed our food and cocktails or Rioja wine at Salar. Four of us had seafood: the scallops special, salmon and two with Catch of the day which was bream. My daughter had the lamb shank which looked terrific. We started with the calamari which were crisp on the outside yet very tender and the spectacular empanadas. We enjoyed all of our meals and the ability to linger at the table talking. The music was at first a bit loud in the "bubble room" but our server promptly turned it down for us. This area of the restaurant is quieter than in the bar area and is a bit brighter for those with need to have better light for reading menus.
We had a great server, Megan. The appetizers were delicious! Our meals were disappointing. I ordered the surf and turf. For $32, I received 2 shrimp, 1 scallop and a fillet. The food was cooked perfectly but it was cold! I was sooo disappointed! I think that dish is overpriced for what you get. My boyfriend ordered the pork chop but his dinner was lukewarm. :-(. My daughter and her boyfriend received beautiful dishes, cooked perfectly and warm. They ordered the salmon and the duck raviolis! I don’t know what happened at the kitchen that two of the meals were served cold. I’m still a fan and hope next time all is perfect like it was in the past.
