The ambiance, extraordinary service and fascinating menu creates a cosmopolitan atmosphere producing a dining destination unlike any other in the region. Salar is proud to be a Green Certified restaurant.
We had a fantastic date night and meal with friends for our first visit to Salar. Our server was awesome - knowledgeable, attentive but not overly and very fun. The food was amazing - everything we ordered - appetizers, entrees, and desserts. We ordered the calamari, chicken chicharrones, beef empanadas and scallops to share and everyone loved all of them - the calamari and spicy sauce might have been our favorite, but the chicken was a close second. Entrees were Manchu Pichu Pork chop, Beef short ribs x 2, and the Duck. Again everyone raved about everything - I got the short ribs and it was fall apart tender and the Parmesan risotto was perfect. We went ahead and got coffee and dessert and the Valars with cinnamon ice cream, mousse (I forget the fruit in it) and tres leches cake were a delicious end to our meal. We’ll definitely be back after all this lockdown.
Always a pleasure
Service and food was amazing. Best Peruvian food ever, and we’ve been to Peru!!
Incredible service. Very unique food.
It was great! Great food! Good drinks!
One of my favorite restaurants in Dayton, wonderful food and great cocktails
The Peruvian twist made this meal interesting and delicious. Excellent service was appreciated
Salar is our favorite restaurant in Dayton. The food is great and the drinks are consistently fantastic. We came to celebrate a birthday on our last visit, and while the host acknowledged a birthday in the reservation notes, the waiter never mentioned it. And when it was time to order desserts they didn't offer to put a candle in anything, or make any mention of the birthday. I assume this was a miscommunication between front and back of house, but otherwise it would be nice to know upfront birthdays don't warrant anything out of the ordinary at the restaurant so future diners won't be disappointed.
It’s a beautiful restaurant in the heart of the Oregon district with great food to match!
I wanted to like this restaurant and chose to go there to celebrate my birthday. We had an early reservation. We walked past many available tables yet were seated in a very dark, cramped table in a room by ourselves. The service was excellent. My duck pasta dish was flavorful comfort food, as the server aptly described it. But the bottom of the diminutive portion was stuck together and not sauced. The other main course, a rice and seafood dish, was excellent. The crab in one appetizer was not particularly memorable (a bit too much like canned tuna salad) but we enjoyed the combination of its temperatures and flavors, topped with red grapefruit and avocado on a warm puffy cracker. We enjoyed the hummus appetizer. The star was the ceviche; well done and so fresh and flavorful! On our way out, there were still available tables in more well lit and lively areas of the restaurant, and I regretted that we didn't ask to change our table. It was an uneven culinary experience and there is certainly more to appreciate from the unique menu.
The service is outstanding . Consistently . The space is nicely appointed . Tables are not on top of each other , but there are a couple near the kitchen door that I’m not interested in being seated at .
The scallops are always good . The caprese salad is delicious . The short ribs were a little on the fatty side .
Salar was a great date night. Our waitress was friendly, drinks were excellent, food was delicious.
Overall great experience. We will be back.
Salar offers some of their menu items year-round, while they make seasonal changes to many others to keep things fresh. We enjoyed beef empanadas, seafood rice, and Faroe Island salmon. You cannot go wrong with their selection of starter dishes! Our server was attentive throughout the evening. Thanks for a great night out!
Friday evening (Feb 28) dinner reservation; immediately seated upon arrival, with special drinks explained, as well as specials and appetizers. Great tempo throughout our evening; the food was outstanding, as well as our waiter Mark. Our first of many future visits to the great Oregon District restaurant.
First time there. Dinner with husband. Great experience
Seated us promptly, Our waiter Mark was exceptional, friendly, helpful, and not over bearing. His suggestions were spot on. Appetizers perfect, one entre a little salty, but great overall. Parked near the restaurant. Area is artsy and we felt safe.
SALT and cheessseeeee
Sliders were great, as was glazed salmon. Green beans a little underdone.
Fantastic food. We started by splitting the Caesar Salad: is was awesome. Love the idea of a split head of romaine. I had the Surf and Turf and it was great. Steak juicy, tender, and flavorful. Seafood was cooked well. The asparagus was thick and yummy and cooked perfect (this is hard to do!). Wife had the lamb. It was good, also juicy and tender. Flavors worked well. The lamb taste was strong, so be aware. We liked it. It is pricey, but overall worth it for good "high end" food. We did not do drinks to keep the $$$$ down.
Food and service were very good! Pork chop was excellent!
Sat at a hi top in the bar area and had excellent service
Cassie has been our server twice and she is excellent. Attentive, personable and professional yet fun. The food is always delicious though sometimes a wee bit salty. Beef empanadas are delicious and so is the goat cheese salad. Fun atmosphere. The chef’s table was a treat for our large party.
Went there for anniversary. Ordered apps and bottle of wine. Wife had filet and I had pork tenderloin. Both were amazing. Very nice atmosphere. Waitress was very attentive and really made the evening special. She gave us a dessert and champagne to celebrate with. Those little touches you don’t see anymore and just added to the evening.
My team enjoyed a nice team dinner and drinks at Salar. Would definitely go back! Que Rico!
1st visit Sunday 16Feb. All items on Valentines Day Special were available less the fresh oysters. We were earlier than our reservation but seated immediately. It was moderately busy. The service was excellent and personable despite additional duties at the bar. Thank you Sarah. The Salar salad was a pleasant surprise but could have used a bit more dressing. My wife enjoyed the Duck Ragu Tagliatelle but would try something different next visit. I had the Baked Scallops Parmesan and Rocotto sauce served on the shell. The scallop was ok but the cheese was hard crusted to the shell which was difficult to remove and little sauce remained.
The wine (Pinot Grigio)was good for the price. The experience was enjoyable but a bit overpriced. We’re going to give it another try. 🤔
This restaurant provides top notch customer service!
Great service, empanadas were excellent, Caprese salad was excellent as well. Salmon had good flavor but was overcooked (ordered medium, received well done). Spare ribs were excellent.
Overall a great place with a few quirks. Awesome beef empanadas , excellent Beef Saltado and Pisco sours were great. The Peruvian Seafood rice was good and came with a good amount of seafood but rice was overcooked. The cebiche was mostly all shrimp with very few pieces of fish. Not sure what the take is on the Aguadito soup. Having grown up on Peruvian food I have never seen this version of it. I am planning on visiting again and hoping to get more than two Pisco Sours in next time. The waiter was good but kept saying the drinks are coming and that part was slow.
We were really looking forward to this, but it fell flat. Service was VERY slow (even slower than fine dining) and it took a good 25 minutes for our server to bring our cocktails from the bar. He was NOT helpful or knowledgeable about the menu (perhaps new), and as first time guests, we could not really get any recommendations or help. The appetizer (crab causa) was OK...lacked seasoning (maybe salt) but the yucca was delicious. My partners surf and turf was good, perfectly cooked, well sized for the price. My mahi and scallops, however, was a mess. Scallops were cooked perfect, but the two tiny pieces of mahi were so over cooked, that they were dry and could not flake with a fork. Server had kitchen remake, and second go round was better, but as in the appetizer, it lacked all seasoning. Bill came to $130 for 2 drinks, an appetizer and 2 mains. Server did not make any attempt to reduce bill or compensate for main dish error. Will not return or recommend.
We tried Salar again after a few years away and found it better than we remembered. The food was tasty, the drinks imaginative, and service earnest, if not doting. We enjoyed our leisurely Valentine's meal without any snafus. Solid positive recommendation.
Where do I begin?! I took my girlfriend for Valentines Day dinner and it was absolutely amazing! Food was really good! We started off with a roasted pork belly appetizer, since we were waiting a little bit they brought us another free appetizer! When our food came it was cooked to perfection. Food was presented very nice and the service was great! I would recommend this to anyone to go for a nice dinner.
Back room chilly or hot- hard to control temperature.
We always have a wonderful time at Salar. We have Matt serve us every time and he rocks. Always knows what to pick as a drink and is ALWAYS on it.
Their drink menu is stellar, as is their food. We’ve found our gem in the Oregon District and we haven’t gone else where since.
One of the best restaurants in the Dayton, Ohio area. Great atmosphere. Friendly and helpful staff. Marvelous food. Wine list is excellent. Many fine house mixed drinks. The bar is excellent at which to eat. Very roomy. This is a very busy spot. Reservations will make things easier. Haven't been to the lounge, but it looks nice an is always filled when we pass it on the way to our table.
Good value and service
I went to Salar for the first time on Valentine’s Day. It was lovely. Their mixed drinks were top notch. Service was fast and friendly. Ambiance felt classy and elegant. My table was a bit wobbly but other than that, I have no complaints regarding my seating. As a native Peruvian, I would not call this a Peruvian restaurant. It is more of a Peruvian inspired concept, which I found really fun and refreshing. I’ll be back to try some of their other dishes.
The service is consistently good . Attentive . But not disruptive . The food is Also consistently good . Great flavors . Love the caprese salad and the scallops appetizer . The seafood / rice entree is very flavorful . Nice wine list and good sangria . Worth a visit for sure !
I don’t write reviews very often, reserved for occasions when I am wowed, like I was when I took my first bite of Salar’s chicken appetizer (don’t remember the name). The Paloma cocktail was delicious. The bartenders are first rate. I have idea why it took us so long to Dine here, but we’ll be back. For the host’s greeting us to the last bite, everything was wonderful.
The service was great. The food was good. But i went there for my anniversary dinner and was not very impressed with the overall experience. It was loud and we pretty much had another couple on r lap. Not very romantic. Couldnt even have a conversation due to everyone screaming. I've been to thousands of restaurants and this is by far the loudest. I dont think i will return.
