SALT and cheessseeeee
Fantastic food. We started by splitting the Caesar Salad: is was awesome. Love the idea of a split head of romaine. I had the Surf and Turf and it was great. Steak juicy, tender, and flavorful. Seafood was cooked well. The asparagus was thick and yummy and cooked perfect (this is hard to do!). Wife had the lamb. It was good, also juicy and tender. Flavors worked well. The lamb taste was strong, so be aware. We liked it. It is pricey, but overall worth it for good "high end" food. We did not do drinks to keep the $$$$ down.
Sat at a hi top in the bar area and had excellent service
Food and service were very good! Pork chop was excellent!
Cassie has been our server twice and she is excellent. Attentive, personable and professional yet fun. The food is always delicious though sometimes a wee bit salty. Beef empanadas are delicious and so is the goat cheese salad. Fun atmosphere. The chef’s table was a treat for our large party.
Went there for anniversary. Ordered apps and bottle of wine. Wife had filet and I had pork tenderloin. Both were amazing. Very nice atmosphere. Waitress was very attentive and really made the evening special. She gave us a dessert and champagne to celebrate with. Those little touches you don’t see anymore and just added to the evening.
My team enjoyed a nice team dinner and drinks at Salar. Would definitely go back! Que Rico!
1st visit Sunday 16Feb. All items on Valentines Day Special were available less the fresh oysters. We were earlier than our reservation but seated immediately. It was moderately busy. The service was excellent and personable despite additional duties at the bar. Thank you Sarah. The Salar salad was a pleasant surprise but could have used a bit more dressing. My wife enjoyed the Duck Ragu Tagliatelle but would try something different next visit. I had the Baked Scallops Parmesan and Rocotto sauce served on the shell. The scallop was ok but the cheese was hard crusted to the shell which was difficult to remove and little sauce remained.
The wine (Pinot Grigio)was good for the price. The experience was enjoyable but a bit overpriced. We’re going to give it another try. 🤔
This restaurant provides top notch customer service!
Great service, empanadas were excellent, Caprese salad was excellent as well. Salmon had good flavor but was overcooked (ordered medium, received well done). Spare ribs were excellent.
Overall a great place with a few quirks. Awesome beef empanadas , excellent Beef Saltado and Pisco sours were great. The Peruvian Seafood rice was good and came with a good amount of seafood but rice was overcooked. The cebiche was mostly all shrimp with very few pieces of fish. Not sure what the take is on the Aguadito soup. Having grown up on Peruvian food I have never seen this version of it. I am planning on visiting again and hoping to get more than two Pisco Sours in next time. The waiter was good but kept saying the drinks are coming and that part was slow.
We were really looking forward to this, but it fell flat. Service was VERY slow (even slower than fine dining) and it took a good 25 minutes for our server to bring our cocktails from the bar. He was NOT helpful or knowledgeable about the menu (perhaps new), and as first time guests, we could not really get any recommendations or help. The appetizer (crab causa) was OK...lacked seasoning (maybe salt) but the yucca was delicious. My partners surf and turf was good, perfectly cooked, well sized for the price. My mahi and scallops, however, was a mess. Scallops were cooked perfect, but the two tiny pieces of mahi were so over cooked, that they were dry and could not flake with a fork. Server had kitchen remake, and second go round was better, but as in the appetizer, it lacked all seasoning. Bill came to $130 for 2 drinks, an appetizer and 2 mains. Server did not make any attempt to reduce bill or compensate for main dish error. Will not return or recommend.
We tried Salar again after a few years away and found it better than we remembered. The food was tasty, the drinks imaginative, and service earnest, if not doting. We enjoyed our leisurely Valentine's meal without any snafus. Solid positive recommendation.
Where do I begin?! I took my girlfriend for Valentines Day dinner and it was absolutely amazing! Food was really good! We started off with a roasted pork belly appetizer, since we were waiting a little bit they brought us another free appetizer! When our food came it was cooked to perfection. Food was presented very nice and the service was great! I would recommend this to anyone to go for a nice dinner.
Back room chilly or hot- hard to control temperature.
We always have a wonderful time at Salar. We have Matt serve us every time and he rocks. Always knows what to pick as a drink and is ALWAYS on it.
Their drink menu is stellar, as is their food. We’ve found our gem in the Oregon District and we haven’t gone else where since.
One of the best restaurants in the Dayton, Ohio area. Great atmosphere. Friendly and helpful staff. Marvelous food. Wine list is excellent. Many fine house mixed drinks. The bar is excellent at which to eat. Very roomy. This is a very busy spot. Reservations will make things easier. Haven't been to the lounge, but it looks nice an is always filled when we pass it on the way to our table.
Good value and service
I went to Salar for the first time on Valentine’s Day. It was lovely. Their mixed drinks were top notch. Service was fast and friendly. Ambiance felt classy and elegant. My table was a bit wobbly but other than that, I have no complaints regarding my seating. As a native Peruvian, I would not call this a Peruvian restaurant. It is more of a Peruvian inspired concept, which I found really fun and refreshing. I’ll be back to try some of their other dishes.
The service is consistently good . Attentive . But not disruptive . The food is Also consistently good . Great flavors . Love the caprese salad and the scallops appetizer . The seafood / rice entree is very flavorful . Nice wine list and good sangria . Worth a visit for sure !
I don’t write reviews very often, reserved for occasions when I am wowed, like I was when I took my first bite of Salar’s chicken appetizer (don’t remember the name). The Paloma cocktail was delicious. The bartenders are first rate. I have idea why it took us so long to Dine here, but we’ll be back. For the host’s greeting us to the last bite, everything was wonderful.
The service was great. The food was good. But i went there for my anniversary dinner and was not very impressed with the overall experience. It was loud and we pretty much had another couple on r lap. Not very romantic. Couldnt even have a conversation due to everyone screaming. I've been to thousands of restaurants and this is by far the loudest. I dont think i will return.
This restaurant has yummy Peruvian dishes with authentic spices and peppers! Highly elevated decor for Dayton! Feels like New York. Servers are friendly and knowledgeable. Hand crafted cocktails, amazing!
I come to Dayton from Columbus to eat at Solar. The quality if service and environment are excellent. They play amazing supportive roles to the star if the star if the evening: the food. It is outstanding.
When dining at this price point you are looking for experience and cost becomes secondary. I do not feel it appropriate to rate this restaurant on value. Our specific server was so knowledgeable of the menu it became overwhelming. Which I would prefer over being underwhelmed by service. Solar is a Dayton must.
My food was delicious! Our service was incredible. It was our first time. Our waitress explained the menu in detail and it was great. The Pork Chop dish she suggested was mmm mmm good. I would certainly get it again. I do wish the potatoes were warmer though. My friend's Rib dish was okay.... Cocktails were totally worth it. Daniel the hostess, was gracious to accommodate our reservation change due to inclement weather travel. However, my friend was a little put off with being told another reservation was after us. We understand, but it was a little off putting. We would totally come again.
We got a private room and it worked perfectly for our group. Excellent food and our server Cassie was top shelf.
We like Salar but tonight's experience got off on a bad note, and we worked harder than we should have to to make it a nice visit. We were a party for 4 and sat for 33 minutes before a waiter arrived to take a drink order. We had a nice table at the front window, and 3 waiters kept walking past, and turning their heads to avoid eye contact. Even worse, the manager, who is a nice guy, walked past many times and never looked at us, even though he had seated us. Finally my wife had to stand up and politely grab a waiter's arm and ask if someone is going to wait on us? A waiter did arrive, we ordered 2 glasses of wine, a Beefeaters on the rocks, and a margarita. It took another 12-13 minutes for our drinks to arrive, which seemed really long after the initial wait.
Service was good after that. The food salmon, chicken, seafood rice were good and fried calamari above average.
We are two easy going couples who understand running a restaurant is not science and will vary from time to time. But why have a manager if he/she isn't going to check if customers are being treated well? I didn't complain b/c I didn't want him to think we were expecting a comped desert or something. But if he had asked "how was your meal", we would have told him the lack of attention had a negative impact on the experience. We dine out frequently and it will be a long time before we are back at Salar, too risky.
The duck dish was very flavorful. It was a great winter night comfort dish. My husband and enjoyed the club room.
Great dinner, great vibe. Enjoyed showing off one of Dayton's best restaurants to our guest.
Party of 4 promptly seated on a busy Saturday night. The service was challenged due to the full room, as was the kitchen. All food was quite good, especially the Lamb shank, but the constant waiting for drinks, eats and checking out got tiresome. ..not sure how to fix this issue.. their popularity is the cause of their shortcoming. Eats & drinks (for 2) + tip = $110.
Had not been to Salar before but seen it so decided to go with friends. Enjoyed the salads, the pork chops, filet, and calamari. No complaints by anyone.
Sat near bar and had a great experience. Will definitely return.
Gets better and better every visit
Great experience at Salar. Excellent choices.
Happen to be restaurant week. So delicious!
We went here for my husbands birthday! Amazing drinks and food! Wonderful atmosphere! Must experience place!
Food and service was very good.
Busy nite, so it was noisy. Food, drinks, service, all top notch. Definitely one of top 3 restaurants in Dayton, and rising.
Inconsistent. The empanadas and the beef dish that is their signature, the traditional Peruvian soup for Restaurant Week--these were terrific. The drinks deserve 5 stars. But they were paired with extremely weak dishes--the "house salad" with peppers and an onion vinagrette was utterly tasteless, the duck pasta dish was one note: mushroom flavored. Our server was opinionated and gregarious, but we saw her exactly 3 times--they appear to have this "whoever is available," approach to service: meals were dropped on the table by a guy with our appetizers half finished, the soup was delivered lukewarm without a spoon, and I literally had to ask yet another person if they would please remove the dishes to make room. The design also suffers from the hit-and-miss approach: they have warm, cozy booth backings along the edges of the room, well-placed tables for larger parties, and then these awful seats just off the entry and unbelievably in 2019, a two-top in front of the service door. They standardized an insult (!), and I feel badly for customers that have no choice but to sit there. I will go again to sample more of the menu, and on a Thursday night they filled by 6pm, so overall this is a wonderful selection for Dayton. But there is room for improvement.
We had a lovely time. The food was great (my dish was a bit salty), one of my friends said she's only every going to order yucca cakes!
