amazing ambience and service was excellent
Love the food, a little pricey but def worth it. I just wish the waitress was a little more attentive, we didn’t get refills on our drinks and it took a little bit for her to come to us.
Wonderful experience. Will definitely be back!
Upstairs roof leaks when it rains
Complimentary sake for our anniversary was very appreciated! Loved the ambiance.
Just not enough value - WAY overpriced. would have expected more from a tasting menu of nearly $100
Went on a Sunday evening, super low key! Sushi was fantastic, hot dishes were served perfectly warm and the drinks were great. New favorite sushi spot in dc
Good neighborhood spot
Upstairs is nice in the sun
In the early evening on weekdays, even when it's 90 degrees outside, evidently they only have their upper terrace open, which the sun hits directly in the summer evening time (think 630pm), and they don't seat people downstairs in the air conditioning until 8pm "if the business picks up," as we were told condescendingly by the manager. They offered to pull down part of their canopy which wouldn't have blocked the sun at the angle it was beating down, and the only ventilation were tiny fans that were angled in such a way as to offer no help.
14th street near U street corridor has many better and more accommodating options, so I voted with my feet and left. Hopefully they'll figure out their customer service model isn't working correctly right now; I had been there before and enjoyed the food. I just don't particularly find the idea of eating raw fish in the blazing hot sun particularly appealing.
great food, service, and ambiance
Great food! Sushi was fantastic but waiters are slow so don’t go for a quick bite.
Food was underwhelming. The biggest turn off was the blue dyed tempura flakes in the sushi for “Pride Month”. It looked gross and was just a huge turn off on sushi. Not a great idea. 2 of the three rolls ordered were yummy though. Brussel sprouts were salty and oily. Calamari was underwhelming.
Great spot. We were sitting upstairs..beautiful!
This was ultimately a disappointment. Food is over priced, and the restaurant was out of two of the particular dishes that I wanted. The rolls and poke we had were good, but for the expectation, the restaurant did not live up to the hype.
The food was Exceptional. And the service was great! Friendly and fast
Came here for my graduation dinner; we booked hours before and were able to get a good table. The food was out of this world, the ambiance was really fun (very loud, though), and it was an overall enjoyable experience. Would def recommend for a weekend night dinner in a small group or date setting.
Service was not great - waited a very long time for our wine and cocktails- and then they cleaned the bathroom with very strong smelling bleach which filled the whole space. Food was good though
Ting is the best!
Second level is bright and perfect for happy hour!
The food this time was alright. It wasn't spectacular, but overall just pretty good sushi. The service was too quick and we felt rushed by the staff. I didn't know it was possible to be too quick serving food, but on a couple courses (single sushi pieces on the omakase meal) we hadn't even eaten it yet as they were bringing the next out. When you spend several hundred dollars on a meal, the presentation and service are almost as important as the food and Sakerum failed us this time. There are too many other restaurants out there for this type of service and as I mentioned, the food was just pretty good for a premium price.
Great sushi, not cheap but delicious food quality fish and interesting rolls
Service was very good, but the food and drink were overpriced.
Sushi was okay. Expected more. Manager is a cool dude and our waiter was pretty funny. Probably be back soon.
The waitress was always in a rush even though the restaurant was empty.
Delicious food and great decor.
Was pretty disappointed as Sakerum is usually my go to spot for sushi. My friends and I were given pretty poor service... our server didn’t seem patient for us to order, as 2/3 of us had dietary restrictions.
Also, please update the menu on your website. There were lots of items that weren’t on the menu we were given when we got there.
Food is good, but service was very very poor. We ordered, and server was uninterested to attend us. One order never came, and in one order we had to order twice. Bummer as food was decent.
Sakerum’s vibe was pretty chill for a weekend. It wasn’t too noisy, but the music was loud enough to make it feel alive we had tostones & sushi!
The best sushi in DC. It's a bit pricey but definitely worth it.
Cute restaurant - Sushi is the best I've had in DC so far. Easily as good as Sushi Taro, but with a different vibe. Our waitress accurately described our dishes and answered our questions. She was friendly and gave us great service. Manager was friendly and engaging, but wasn't able to talk with us long. I did notice that the place seemed very short staffed and when I asked our waitress about it she said the manager is the only they have and only one busboy. Crazy. It didn't seem to impact our experience. Will be back for another date night soon.
Wow..... All I can is wow. Service is amazing. Our server was a super sweet Japanese girl that took amazing care of us. The bartender brought out our drinks because she was busy and he was so nice, like what an awesome guy. His name is Choo. Like choo-choo train like he said... lol. The GM is so f-ing cool too... like an amazing guy, sat with us for about 30 minutes and it was cool, even though it was a date he didn't make it akward…. Sushi was good but not amazing.... for the price we paid the service made it worth it.., the food was second best.. Excited to go back for the experience we had tonight, kudos to Mariii, Choo and Michael
Food was fine, nothing crazy special. The big issue I had was with the GM. Apparently they have a minimum for parties of 5+ on Friday's and Saturday evenings, but that was not written anywhere on Open Table or in any email confirmations. At the end of our meal he came up and started a fight with me about it. When I calmly showed him my email confirmation AND my Open Table reservation, both of which did not mention this at all, he got angry and huffed off after trying to insist he was right. This just was a bad service and not a good way to conduct business in any way. It really ended our dinner on a sour note, and makes me not want to recommend this to any friends.
What a fantastic experience. I took my boyfriend here to celebrate his 25th birthday, and being the bug sushi fan he is, said hes never had sushi this authentic and truly deliciously fresh before. My bao buns were a nostalgic taste of when I lived in singapore. Our waitress was very knowledgable and recommended the perfect for for everything we were looking for. The atmosphere was fun, romantic and elegant. We look forward to returning for another egg drop martini and nutella sushi dessert roll!
My expectations were too high up. I think the reviews were to hyped up. I heard the food was fantastic and the place outstanding but truthfully the place was cute but small, the food was good but more in the average side (except the white ceviche it was excellent). The prices are as expected for DC more than average.
Extremely loud. Food order had multiple issues (wrong sushi, forgotten dishes). Instead of fixing the issue or having a cook explain things, the server just kept coming back saying everything was okay). In the end, everything was fixed, but we never even got an apology. Food was good, not great. Based on the errors, noise level, and service quality, We will never go back.
Best sushi I’ve had in DC. Excellent drink selection as well!
we were seated in the side dining area away from the bar and entry. noise level was comfortable. it was very noisy in the bar area.
Excellent food both in quality of ingredients and thoughtfulness of preparation. It’s also a really cute restaurant. My only complaint is that the upstairs was so loud we had a difficult time enjoying conversation. I would go back and request a seat downstairs where it was much quieter.
This is my fifth time coming back to Sakerum and am happy I came back. I stopped coming last year after the female manager at the time was incredibly rude to me. We had an excellent time last night and the sushi was incredible. It seems they changed managers and the place has such a better vibe to it now. They have a new menu and a new chef and it seems like the staff is really happy and it was reflected in the service and overall experience. Only thing that bugged me out of everything was it is soooo dark in there. I understand having dim lights but it was just too dim. Awesome overall experience.
Sakerum was recommended by a friend. I was really looking forward to it as it was my first time and trying it with another friend. The service was excellent. The mixed drinks were also fantastic. Highly recommend Crimson Geisha and A Curious Couple. The music was a little loud at time but the rooftop at sunset was more than made up for it.
