About this restaurant

  • Good for groups
  • Healthy
  • Good for business meals
Sakabayashi Sushi Tavern by Sushiro, is proud to be the first U.S. outpost of Sugidama, a beloved establishment imported directly from Japan with the mission to offer delicious sushi and a selection of other specialties at great prices, aiming to fill the hearts of a sake god.

Our name, Sakabayashi, comes from the traditional cedar ball hung out at sake breweries to signal fresh sake has been brewed, symbolizing tradition and hospitality.

What truly sets us apart is our ongoing connection to Japan. Our senior executive, known as the "Guardian of Taste," travels regularly from Japan to Boston to ensure that our food, service, and hospitality meet the same high standards found in our restaurants back home. This level of commitment reinforces our dedication to authenticity.

With a traditional sakabayashi, guests are welcomed into our warm and inviting izakaya, from the lanterns to the vibrant wall art, every detail is designed to transport you to Japan, right here in America.

Lunch for two - meeting - we each had the special lunch (they say 10 servings per day - no problem getting two at noon) Fish was very fresh, pleasant and efficient service and easy to hold a conversation.

Took my friend for his birthday lunch. We both had the ramen and sushi lunch combo. Sushi was fresh and the ramen was delicious. A great experience! Staff were very friendly. They even brought out a birthday dessert!

Great appetizers. Agedashi tofu is as really good. Unfortunately, maki sushi was awful. The roll was loose, large chunks of fish/vegetables.

What a great new spot. We went for the dine out Boston special, but we will be back for sure. The service is wonderful, the quality of the fish was excellent and authentic. The cocktails are very good too! I wish this place much success!

Excellent value if you go for lunch (as we did)! Go early to try to get one of their 10-orders-only Sashimi Boat (can't say for sure if it's a marketing ploy or if they really limit it to only 10 orders); either way, great value. Also, I note it's one of the few places anywhere in the Boston area where you can get Ankimo (monkfish liver), and quality ankimo at that! It is probably worth noting that if you are expecting a freebie for a special occasion, you should not expect one, but maybe their policy is different for dinner.

Interesting fusion creations. Tried the foie gras from the sea (monk fish liver) which was an interesting take on four...you could still taste the liver but you never know it was monkfish. Sweet and sour friends (karaage fried chicken with a tartar sauce) was an interesting take on beer batter fish and chips. The dragon roll was amazing...highly recommend because it had so much eel.
