Saint Jacques French Cuisine
Pretend to be French
Should be closed completely
Folks should be doing something else
Very disappointing evening. The food was still good, but not worth the money. Service was noticeably poor, while outstanding service has long been a hallmark of St. Jacques '.
We had ordered a special dessert, as has been our habit. Clearly the new chef had no idea what he was supposed to do, yet the order was taken and I was not called about it ahead of time.
We will most likely not return.
Server was perfectly attentive & professional.
Food was divine!
French food is not my usual go to but Saint Jacques is definitely the place to go for a special evening, whatever it may be. The french wine and seafood dishes we ordered were excellent. My friend ordered the pitterfoiles which she said were devine. Our server was fabulously informative, friendly, and attentive. A perfect evening!
Late lunch with my niece. The great food added wonderfully to the flow and spontaneity of our conversation. Thanks. Katharine
Dessert was awful. Server was going to take it off of the price but I said no. Should've reconsidered.
It was a wonderful experience. Service, food and presentation was superb
Service at Saint Jacques is excellent. Food is delicious.
Excellent service, almost all the food was excellent except for the beer tenderloin. My husband asked for it medium rare and it definitely came out well done. We opted to not send it back as to not ruin the evening plus the overall taste was excellent. Just expected better for a steak that costs that much.
I’ve eaten here before..... best French Restaraunt in area ..... was here for Valentines Day.... prefixed menu.... I knew it wasn’t going to be the quality of the normal menu, but did expect it to still exceed other restaurants. I was very disappointed. Clearly focused on profiting on a special occasions by sacrificing the quality of their product. I’m sure the chef knows since they taste what goes out of their kitchen.
We've dined here for over 10 years and have never been disappointed.
Sweetbreads were overcooked. Potato au gratin with lamb was watery and had to be sent back.
Cocktails, appetizers, desserts & presentation were outstanding. Entree which was a puff pastry with seafood tasted like the chef made a mistake with the black pepper. I questioned the taste but the server did not offer to check on the sauce. Of course, this was the priciest portion of the meal. Expect to pay about $100 + each for the meal.
Celebrated my daughter’s birthday there and we had a wonderful time. We lived in France for many years and my daughter was born in Paris so a French themed birthday felt appropriate.
The atmosphere was comfortable, noise level was good so we could hear ourselves talk. Not a big place but the tables were spaced well so we didn’t feel like we were on top of anyone.
Food was delicious, service was friendly and attentive. We all agreed that it was an enjoyable experience
We celebrated my husbands birthday here and it was fantastic. Service was prompt and everything was delicious. We will definitely be back and will be recommending to friends.
We have LOVED Saint Jacques in the past, but I had a bad dining experience over lunch last week. What I was hoping for as an indulgent treat turned into a virtual nightmare. Ambiance: There were three VERY chatty and loud women in the restaurant, to the point where I could hardly hear myself think. I discreetly asked about their meal status (wrapping up, etc.), and the lovely waitress shared that they had finished - not so. I had to endure their political and gossipy conversation for an hour - could not wait to leave. Food: Again, we typically love this restaurant, but my seafood soup was gritty and the entree very rich. My posting is not so much as a warning about their food, but a heads-up to check out how loud the restaurant might be during your dining experience.
Lovely lunch and Birthday celebration! Quiet restaurant with delicious array of baked bread, nice wine choices, delicious mussels and on the Birthday girl’s dessert plate- chef had written joyeaux Anniversaire in chocolate- a nice touch!
My husband and I celebrated his birthday there and very much enjoyed every aspect of the experience. Highly recommend the lamb and scallops.
We enjoyed our dinner very much. We read about the restaurant in Walter magazine. It was refreshing to find an authentic French restaurant in a strip mall.
Decided to try this place based on other reviews. We were not disappointed. It is quaint, although located in a strip mall, they have done good job of making the inside feel warm and inviting. The attention to detail was nice. Things like seating us apart from other diners when the restaurant was not yet full (we were there at 5:30) and offering dark linen because we were wearing black were appreciated. Aso,asking about allergies before beginning service, and waiting for our complete order so that the plating of all courses could be expertly timed. Our favorite was the coquilles st jacques appetizer. The beef bourguignon was hearty and delicious and my filet was actually medium rare which almost never happens. ( I do wish i had felt more adventurous and ordered maybe the fish special, because I decided I do prefer a good amount of char on a grilled steak, but that is personal preference. ) The butter cookies to take home were a lovely touch. Overall a wonderful experience and we really appreciated a quiet spot for conversation at the end of a busy week. Perfect for a date night.
As always, food and atmosphere were fabulous! This is our restaurant of choice for special occasions!
It had been 20+ years since we had been to Saint Jacques. Obviously new owners, chef, etc. Still the best French food in Raleigh. Delicious!
I was very surprised to find such a lovely French restaurant in a strip mall! Service was excellent, food was beautifully presented and tasted great. All around a great execution!
First time visit for my wife and I recently. Delightful first experience. Delicious food and outstanding service. It's definitely not just another restaurant. I'd highly recommend it!
Salmon was exquisite
Beef bourguignon excellent
Escargot top shelf
Amazing food and great drinks! It was our first time and it will definitely not be our last!
Excellent food and service.
Had dinner on Saturday night, service was slow. Only two beers for selection. Out of menu items and restaurant was only half full. To top it off after two hours our lamb was served ice cold! Extremely disappointing.
Amazing service, the food was spectacular, not a huge beer menu but I didn’t really expect one. Everything was great otherwise can’t even take a star off because it was so unimportant when we got everything else.
Excellent food and service, with a friendly atmosphere.
I took the wife on a diner date to Saint Jaques and we really enjoyed ourselves. The food was excellent.
Well worth the money! It was an absolutely delightful experience.
Selected this restaurant for a lunch birthday celebration. Would definitely not recommend. The facilities are run down which was the 1st clue. The service was just okay and food middling at best. Salad was fresh but vinaigretee was bland - basically like eating plain lettuce out of the bag. Escargot main tasting element was the parsley. Stingy with the bread - one tiny piece at a time unless asked for additional. French onion soup okay - had better at the Outback. Bourguignon meat was tough and salty with very little vegetables. Saumon Rôti à la Croûte de Basilic was terrible - birthday girl picked this and didn't finish 1/3 of the dish. Crêpe Saint Jacques was ok. Needles to say we didn't order any dessert. Don't waste your money!
Very helpful, attentive and courteous staff. The food was excellent and presented very well. Great for a special occasion.
St Jacques us a great place for a special occasion. Quiet, great service and great food. We will be going again.
Sorry to see the restaurant under new management. We miss Serge.
Hope they can maintain the usual quality.
Great food. Excellent atmosphere. Impeccable service!
Food is perhaps the best in Raleigh. It is the favorite of my wife and I.
We went with others for New Year's Eve. It was a fixed menu. The food was mediocre. The waiter forgot what soup I had ordered. But, my biggest observation was that the restaurant made no effort to make the table or surroundings "festive." There was a pathetic group of small flowers on the table. There was no joie de vivre to be seen!
Storied fine dining institution in the triangle. The setting is unfortunate as it sits what could easily be an insurance agency in a shopping center between a chain hair salon and a supermarket and the prices reflect upper-mid fine dining. The food was rock solid modern French cuisine. We were their first ever Alpha-Gal table (my dining companion has the acquired tick-borne allergy to mammal meat) and they were amazingly careful. The Chef de Cuisine even came out to check in with us to make sure everything went well. My companion's modified Magret de Canard Sauté, Sauce au Grenade, Fève et Piperade (sauteed duck breast in pomegranate sauce with fava beans -- served over pureed celeriac) was on point. The Coquille St. Jacques en coquille that came before it was a delight. My shrimp & grits dinner special with crispy kale, shredded duck and foie gras cream sauce had amazing flavor but sadly was apparently a casualty of the time taken in being super careful with the allergens. It hit our table at room temp, which did not stop me from devouring it--but at room temp crispy kale can become nori-like and crispy duck can become pretty much an inedible chew toy. We will be back though as that was the only ding in a fabulous meal and this place totally deserves another bite at the apple based on their courtesy and care as well as their fantastic flavors.
