I used to love to go to Sailor Jacks...thru all of their owners... So did my friends...I am the last to finally agree that it is not what it used to be. It feels like they are on their last leg...Some of the reasons my friends stopped going is because they felt it was not a clean restaurant ..meaning that everything was sticky and..well it just looks dirty. I felt that way too this last time. I have never necessarily been disappointed with the food. But with a class restaurant right next door...well guess I 'll choose next door.
Its a shame because they have a great piece of land with beautiful views...I'll miss it in a way.
Had 7:45pm reservations for dinner on new years eve. May not be a good indication of food since they were busy. We all got their prix fixe menu, however, from 1st course (soup) to entree, it took over an hour to get our entrees. Then my filet mignon (but only mine) came in a MW to well, when i ordered MR. Server was good about getting me a new dish right away. I would try them again if i were in the area...
Bare in mind that we were there on New Year's Eve, these folks were on a dead run accommodating many groups with a "special" menu. From my point of view they did a great job. This said, my dinner was wonderful, the other three in our group felt the same. Due to the date, I felt service was rushed & our server could only provide limited time with us. It was a small thing, but it still bothers me that when asked, our server advised us that bread was not being served. This when the "special" menu indicated bread was served with dinner and I could see bread & butter served at the adjacent tables to us.
Beautiful views and consistently good food.
I love Sailor Jack's. Food is wonderful. Wait staff is top notch! We were seated upstairs, which I like. But, we were seated at the 4 top right next to the stairwell. Very distracting with waitstaff going up & down the stairs. Also, overheard quite a few snippets of conversation by waitstaff complaining about other waitstaff and about customers! Don't get me wrong, I GET IT. I don't fault the waitstaff AT ALL. I was a waitress for 10+ years. You have to vent .... or lose it! And you never want to lose it! My suggestion is to the restaurant -- I suggest removing this table from service. I understand that you need to make the most of your space but it's akin to being seated next to the bathroom. In addition, it is directly in front of the area where waitstaff enters the bar area and also where they leave their tray stands. Twice, a stand fell over (not loaded) but, still it was like a bomb going off behind our heads. I don't think the loss of one (1) 4 top should break the restaurant.
First time at Sailor Jack with two of my friends, it was recommended at did not disappoint. Great food, friendly service, fantastic views, easy parking that is free.
Great food and wonderful views. Our server, Leslie, was absolutely wonderful. She checked in often making sure we had everything we needed, very warm and friendly. We also felt that the quality and amount of our entrees were well worth the price.
Too long waiting time between salads/soups to main entree.
Our party of 3 was treated to a very pleasant social and dining experience.
We all enjoyed our lunch choices and would return again. Appreciated the restaurant honoring our request for a quiet table by the window ... and didn't rush us as we continued to talk after lunch.
One of our local favs and we’re lucky! We live in town so it’s a true neighborhood spot to drop in!
Five ladies had a great time. They especially loved the view. The food was quite good with big portions.
Love this place. Great views, food and service. Very easily could spend several hours here just enjoying the view with your favorite beverage.
The staff was friendly. We had requested a table by the window. We were seated upstairs (myself, my husband and 2 children) next to a window, but right next to an extremely noisy bar. Other patrons were refusing to sit up there also, as it was just too noisy. I am not sure if that is a regular occurrence (the noisy bar). We sat downstairs and that was much better. It was a little cold in the restaurant - definitely bring a sweater. The food was excellent and I thought the prices were reasonable. I would go again, but probably not on a Saturday night, as we prefer to have a more quiet and calm environment. This would probably be a fun place for someone who's interested in a vibrant scene, especially upstairs. Our waitress was attentive and the food arrived quickly. It was delicious - we were all pleased with the choices. My son's seafood alfredo looked especially good, and my husband was very pleased with the surf and turf.
The view was great and the food was very good. The upstairs late afternoon bar crowd was very noisy and we were forced to move downstairs halfway through our meal. I would go back again.
Wonderful view from the upstairs dining room. There are windows all around and you can see across the Sacramento River to the hills. The service was good and the food was delicious. We have a wonderful time here and will come back!
Celebrating a special birthday was wonderful at Sailor Jack’s. We enjoyed the crab cake salad and butter lettuce pear salad with smoked salmon. Delicious! Our server was friendly and helpful. Thank you!
Adequate parking, good food? great view, good bar! Great service ! Very pleasant experience overall!
40 minutes before we had drinks. Bread and water were offered only once our entrees were served. Great clam chowder. Calamari appetizer was ok, we ordered two orders the first was over cooked and rubbery while the second was much better. My halibut was dry and my husbands linguine with clams was watery and flavorless. My mother’s Fettuccine with seafood was excellent. They blamed the painfully slow service on a large party upstairs but we felt if they couldn’t accomodate all of their guests they shouldn’t have accepted the reservations. Overall it was disappointing to say the least.
Overall experience was very good. Food was good and interesting. The detriment was not enough staff to service all the customers, especially as there was a very large party on the second floor.
Table Service and food were wonderful for our group - a cousins get-together with some from the East coast.
However, we arrived early and the greeter/hostess/bar tender was way out of line rude to us. Her associate who kindly sat us and the rest of the occasion was outstanding.
We went for my brother’s birthday dinner, his favorite place. We were a party of six and everyone found something delicious on the menu. We even had a most amazing piece of chocolate cake delivered with the traditional birthday candle. Our seats upstairs had a great view of the water. Our server, Leslie, was attentive and really good at making us feel at home.
Surf & turf was excellent. Server was very attentive to our needs. Re-fired steak that was not prepared as asked for.
Beautiful location, great food, decadent desserts, excellent service!
Excellent Ahi Tuna dinner. Nice atmosphere, waterfront dining, great sunset view
The restaurant was not full, but despite that, it was very noisy. It was also very understaffed! The air conditioning was running at maximum, making it very cold; we asked twice for it to be turned down! Food was ok, nothing special. Won't be hurrying back!
I really love to eat seafood salad!!! Enjoy to look out the sea!
Food was great and the portions generous, but the noise level was high and the service glacial. Don't know what was happening in the kitchen, but there were only two servers for the entire restaurant trying to handle 20+ tables. A good deal of patience was called for.
The Coho Salmon entree was excellent!
Service was impressively slow. Food was not cheap and well in the category of average. The view was nice until they pulled all the shades. Despite there being a nice long bar, it does don’t feel friendly or welcoming. I wouldn’t go back.
The view, scenery and waterfront location was great. Food was above average (had breakfast for 6). All in all it was very good, except service was below par. Slow, unorganized, two or three different servers. Had to ask to get more coffee, ketchup, etc.. But will go again.
We were greeted by a friendly hostess and our table was ready when we arrived. Service was prompt and attentive. We all tried different items. I liked their Ahi tuna appetizer. The lobster was done just right and was the fish special. The prawns were fried and moist. It was an all around enjoyable evening. The limoncello dessert was very tasty and refreshing.
The service isn't that great, but the food is pretty good. With the new competition next door, you'd think they would provide outstanding service. The coffee wasn't hot and it took quite a while for food to arrive.
Sunburst salad, surf and turf, gumbo and Kobe burger were all enjoyed. View was lively. Service was poor and had to constantly be asked for. Bartender is too busy to be a waiter and needs to be taken off table service. It wasn’t his fault that he was overbooked but it dampened our experience.
Sailor Jacks is one of my favorite places to dine. My wife and I celebrated our july birthdays this year at Sailor Jacks. The food was outstanding. We had a really nice evening. Thanks!
We had reservations for a Birthday lunch at 1 on a Saturday afternoon. I arrived early and was seated at water view table. My three friends arrived at 1:10. We were not waited on until I asked the bartender for water and bread. Waiter showed up at 1:30. We ordered a bottle of wine with 3 glasses and received 3 glasses of wine and told them we really wanted a bottle so they took them back. Then our waiter delivered them again and we just accepted them. We ordered 2 appetizers and our entrees. The entrees arrived before the appetizers. The food was good and our waiter was apologetic for everything. He did give us more wine and only charged us for 1 bottle. Entire lunch took two and a half hours so don’t be in a hurry at this restaurant!
Love this restaurant!
Clam Chowder is GREAT, both of us had a bowl. I had the Caesar Salad, fresh crisp greens, not too mush dressing. Ern had the Grilled Chicken Salad, which he said was OUTSTANDING. They also pour Tito's.
Great food good setting and good service parking is not the best
Excellent food; Good service; Amazing views. Walking in beautifully lit downtown Benicia after dinner was "icing on the cake"
