Sailor Jack’s is the top restaurant in Benicia for seafood served with California flair. Located on the scenic Carquinez Straits, our seasonally changing menu offers something for everyone at breakfast, lunch, weekend brunch and dinner. Named for author Jack London who lived nearby and loved the area, our menu is naturally complimented by a carefully curated selection of great wines and signature cocktails also available in our comfortable upstairs bar. Located in a historic (circa 1868) sea captain’s home, the waterfront view setting is unique in Contra Costa, offering two floors and several charming rooms (plus outdoor deck and patio) where you can enjoy an intimate date for 2, a meal out with friends, or a major family celebration.

We sat by the water which was nice but because it’s such a long walk from the kitchen to those tables, the service was poor. We had to ask for everything from silverware, more coffee, more water, clear the dishes, etc. The food was average at best. We tried an omelette with sausage, poke with wonton chips, and eggs Benedict. The Eggs Benedict were probably the best.

Unfortunately this time it was very noisy. Very hard to hear. our waitress was really good. Food came pretty fast. My husband had the fish tacos and said they were ok. I had the gumbo and it was good.

Pretty disappointed…read the good reviews and had high expectations for excellent seafood. We shared an order of crab cakes that were ok…would have been helped by a better sauce (remoulade was pretty bland) and better presentation…just plopped on some pieces of shredded white cabbage. I had the prawns and chips…prawns themselves were good but batter was bland and the tartar sauce tasted odd somehow…ketchup for the fries had the same problem. Fries were good tho and plenty of them. Friend had the petrale sole….fish itself was good but the sauce was once again odd and the presentation was relatively unappetizing. All very hard surfaces in downstairs dining area so noise level was deafening and when we left they were already setting up for dinner but hadn’t bothered to clean up/sweep the floor……lots of spilled food and even glass shards from a broken wineglass. It’s a nice location but the other pieces just didn’t come together

This is our second time in a month to Sailor Jack’s, it exceeded our expectations both times. Great food and great service both times and the setting is beautiful!

I understand it was Father’s Day and I anticipate that it will be busy, noisy and the kitchen will be backed up. Our service was great and when she had a moment would check up on us. BUT…. 1. Why didn’t the manager assign another person in our area which is the big outdoor section, which our server was the only one working the area. 2. Our food didn’t not come together. Two meals out of four came and we waited another block of time for the rest of our meals, which our server noticed were missing. 3. After a long time, we figured that our other two meals were given to someone else and our server mentioned she waited for our food to be done so she can serve it to us. HOWEVER, the kitchen failed to cook our meals correctly. My dad waited for the other meals to be served and while he waited his food got cold and part of the dish became coagulated butter. Then my wife’s meal had risotto that was not fully cooked and could only eat the fish. I got the fish and chips with garlic fries. The garlic fries were fries with a little bit of garlic. Overall, the kitchen failed to cook complete dishes. I don’t recommend coming here at all. Their staff are pretty good but you can tell they were understaffed that day.

Overall, I always enjoy Jacks. Spacious, good light, time to have conversation with friends. The canopies over the outside table ruin the view of the straits. Perhaps the owner can consider replacing them with pretty pergolas covered with vines.
