Fantastic food at reasonable price. Will go again!
The menu is a real treat, with many selections you don't see elsewhere, particularly the Delhi street food choices. Intend to go back.
I went to Sahib for an early dinner, and had a fantastic meal. Lentil soup was excellent. The fish in coconut curry was just amazing. I had the rosemary naan with it, and it was also wonderful. The service was excellent and the prices most reasonable. I highly recommend to anyone looking for good Indian food in the area.
Overall, great experience the food was delicious and the workers were very polite and mindful. I would totally go there again. I had so much fun with my friends. We went to celebrate my friend’s birthday and she was happy with this outing and the choice of the restaurant.
Excellent service and food. Alwin took care of our every need.
Delicious food, gracious service.
Excellent meal! Basics done in a way that is elegant and delicious
Sahib got a glowing review from the NY Times. The food was good but I can't say it was so much better than other Indian restaurants. I wouldn't go out of my way to return. It's one of many reliable Indian restaurants in the city. Great if you are in the neighborhood.
Have been here at least three times, but that was in 2017/18, and they were all very good experiences. This time not so much.
In hindsight I noticed a significant decrease in other people. In the past nearly every table was full, but this time only 2-3 others were filled. Not that it mattered at the time, but in retrospect perhaps others experienced what I was about to discover as well.
Service was a bit slow given there were at least 4 wait staff and only 4 tables were occupied, and 3 of the 4 were tables if 2!
Lychee martini was way too sweet and tart. Food as good, not great.
My real gripe was the temperature; it was a humid night and there was no air conditioning. Asked to have it turned on, and as told it was on, but that was a lie.
By the end of dinner, we were rushing to get out of the restaurant, it was so hot I felt ill. They couldn’t even think to open the front door where it was 5-10 degrees cooler outside.
Restaurants can’t rest on their laurels, and this place had high marks from the NYTimes in the past.
Shame, but we will not be going back.
Amazing food!
Fantastic find.
Awesome food. Very attentive staff. Great value.
This was a completely ridiculous display of service incompetence. It took a long time to get a drink, then after waiting for awhile, a server walked over and asked if 'dry tonic' was acceptable for the gin and tonic I had ordered. That took another few minutes and the whiskey my husband ordered was incorrect. There are two on the menu, Jameson and Maker's Mark. He ordered Maker's Mark but received Jameson. We were exasperated at this point and decided that we would be wasting our time to correct the error, especially considering that the service staff moved in pack like formation all over the room and did not seem to be able to accomplish much of anything, much less grasp the need to prioritize and execute on simple fundamental tasks. We decided to order our dinner as soon as possible since it took so long for our drinks to arrive; along with our appetizers and mains we ordered Alu Paratha but received Garlic Naan. A server tried to take a plate away from me while I was still eating a samosa. We spoke to 4 people to rectify the situation and decided to cancel the Paratha since we were almost finished eating. It came anyway. I had two pieces. The food was great. The service was not good.
Very good! They often give you some free starters and the waitstaff is very friendly.
I don’t like restaurants that try to upsell you. I found the server we had did that and wasn’t very kind
Excellent as always. Staff is very attentive and welcoming. Food is delicious. Fish curry was terrific.
Not recognizing a number of the items on the menu, we allowed the waiter to choose our appetizers and main course. The food was fantastic, some of the better Indian we've had and we love Indian food.
As always, lovely service and yummy, freshly made food.
Delicious food. Friendly and helpful staff. Will definitely return.
Delicious food, great atmosphere, and attentive service without being too much. The food was amazing and surprisingly light.
I'm amazed at all the positive views! It was as if we were in a different restaurant. The service was wonderful, but the food ranged from ok to poor. Some dishes (curry shrimp in coconut milk and tandoori chicken) had no flavor (Indian or otherwise) at all!! They apparently forgot to put any Indian spices in the dish! Even the bread was bland. Maybe they were scared to because one person kept asking if a certain dish was very spicy. Perhaps it's the word "spicy" that confusing. My friend meant hot! She didn't want very hot food, but did want flavorful food. The appetizer (Lasoni Gobi) was good and adequately seasoned, and the spinach, vegetable chick peas dish was good, but Ithere were no chick peas and it was also rather bland. I was really disappointed! I wanted this to be my go-to place in curry hill.
Consistently fabulous — great service, fabulous food and lovely ambiance. Cannot wait to come back
This is the most delicious Indian food on Lexington Ave -- where there numerous choices. We have dined here since it opened and received great review in NYT. Guests are warmly greeted, the noise level hushed with some lovely soft Indian music. Highly recommend the lamb chops and the chicken kori gassi. The servers will help pair with the right rice, nan and wine or beer.
One of the best Indian restaurants in the "Curry Hill" neighborhood. Excellent staff and service and superbly cooked food. There is also a terrific lunch buffet that is far better than most in similar restaurants.
Our server was amazing. Very knowledgeable and excited for us to try some of their better known items. He made excellent suggestions and was very attentive.
Extraordinary Indian food, at least as good as any I have had in New York.
Would recommend
Great service, great Indian food. Nice atmosphere. Great vegetarian choices
Sahib is small, rather inconspicuous from the street, and has a fairly limited menu. BUT, the food is excellent, and superior to its neighbors who have pages of offerings that are pretty mediocre. Every element of our dinner was excellent.
Great and fast service
Very good food, well served in a slightly elevated noise setting
The food and the service are excellent. I don’t know what they do with their food that makes it stand out among many other Indian restaurants in the area but, for me, it does. In addition, the wait staff is very friendly and attentive. It was a little louder than usual but it was a Thursday night in NYC so it goes with the territory. On other days, it’s not loud at all. If you’re debating about trying it, just go!
I don't think you can go wrong with picking an Indian spot around Curry Hill, but this place exceeded expectations. Food was phenomenal, will definitely go back here/order delivery!
Nice modern Indian restaurant with some different dishes on offer. We really enjoyed it. Other OT reviews were good, so we tried and were very pleased we did.
The waiter made some recommendations as well. We were looking at a cauliflower appetizer and as there were two on offer, he suggested the spiced cauliflower mince, green chillies and fresh coriander. Really lovely and not like anything I've tried before. The Kadhai Murgh (spiced chicken curry) and Kori Gassi (Mangalorean style coconut chicken curry) were very nice too and well presented, spicy but not OTT. The rosemary naan was really delicious. We gave it all a thumbs up. Would definitely eat here again. Wasn't overpriced either. We ate weekday around 6:30pm and it wasn't noisy, so good for conversations. (No idea what it's like at other times).
This is one where they've actually thought about the decor, so the surroundings are really pleasant to eat in. The style is a sort of modern "shabby Chic" and even the ceiling had been artistically decorated, which was nice to see and was one you'd be happy to linger in. Our server was friendly and attentive and all the staff who delivered the food were friendly and let us know what dishes they were. Thumbs up.
I've been to Sahib and will continue to return. It's just a lovely neighborhood spot where you can enjoy delicious Indian food and actually have a conversation with your guests. The waiters are knowledgeable and helpful in making food choices. I love how they start the meal with a shot glass of yummy pumpkin soup which is free. I look forward to going back to Sahib. A real "keeper" of a restaurant.
Fabulous neighborhood find that never disappoints. The food is phenomenal, the staff cannot do enough for you and the ambiance is very casual and relaxed. I love going back to this staple in my restaurant repertoire.
Great new addition to the Indian places along Lex. The cuisine tastes fresh and somehow more authentic than many others, at least to this Indian palate. Some minor issues: The waitstaff needs a bit of coaching on effective teamwork and the space can feel a bit crowded when full. (The best tables are at the very front and the far back of the restaurant.) I certainly plan on going back, I might even make it my go-to Indian place! 😊👍🏽
Delicious food & warm atmosphere. We had a shrimp starter that was great for sharing, lamb chops, tika masala & another curry for entrees. All super yummy. The staff was lovely & wine selections were perfect for the food.
This is a wonderful, creative restaurant with excellent serice.
Our experience at Sahib was excellent. The food was great and included dishes we had never tried before. The service was very attentive as well. We arrived on the earlier side but by the time we left there were many other people enjoying dinner.
