Sage Vegan Bistro - Pasadena
Great first experience. My sis and her hubby recommended this place and we brought my parents and my auntie’s from Thailand to this place. They are meat eaters and my mom is very critical on food, especially vegan food, and they enjoyed the food. Great options! Everything sounded delicious! We will definitely be returning to try more food and we also enjoyed the dessert!!
Food was very tasty. The ale was flat. Server was responsive and helpful.
Great food and great service. Looking forward to our next visit to try other items on the menu.
Obsessed!!! And this is from a hardcore meat eater! Blown away - had such a superb Saturday brunch with a girlfriend this weekend. Delicious food and amazing service (hi Jenny!). Will see you sooner than later! Highly recommend the flautas and mezcal kombucha cocktail!!
We made a reservation for a Friday night and we were greeted and sat immediately. Lovely outdoor patio atmosphere, with fire pits and blankets. Our server was extremely attentive and had two assistants with food and clean up. This was our first time at this Sage location and it did not disappoint. We had multiple menu items between three of us, but went crazy for the “Buffalo Cauliflower with Ranch”. No bottled beers available this evening, but the ale on tap was refreshing and the wine was good as well. Overall, a great dining experience. Do take home some donuts when available!
I was skeptical when this place first opened - can a vegan restaurant in Old Town (large space, high rent) survive? Well, Sage is thriving here. Service can be hit or miss, but the space is great and the food is very good. Pizzas are the only miss here. Everything else we’ve had here is very good. Definitely check this place out. Even if you are not vegan...
Delicious food, great service! My nonvegan friends were pleasantly surprised that plant based food could be so good!
I love Sage! First time at the Pasadena location and it was awesome! It’s so great when you can go in an all vegan restaurant and not worry about what to order and also know the restaurant actually understands veganism. You should go!
We struggled to have a conversation due to the noise level. Great waitress, but the service was slow. Three of their desserts were unavailable
Great spot. Came for breakfast. Service was a little lackluster. Order was not confirmed so a little confusion with drinks, though everything tasted great.
Overall very good first experience at Sage. Initial welcome was very impersonal and they gave us a very basic table inside in a high traffic area, so I requested a quiet window seat. They did not honor a request for a booth seat. Other than the initial cold greeting, the server was very helpful and friendly and the food was fabulous!
Although the ambiance is great, Sage is a bit pricey for its value. The artichoke pizza is by far the best item on the menu.
Loved the food! Would go back, but this is my third time here, first time for dinner and service was horrible. The server came to give us water and we ordered two appetizers. We had to ask another server to get our server to order drinks and food. Once the food arrived, the server never came back. We spoke with the manager and she took care of us. Very friendly and professional. The food is worth going back for. The kitchen staff deserves praise for the delicious food.
Definitely one of the best restaurants I frequent often. The food is always fresh and appetizing to the taste and to the eyes. I recommend Sage to everyone looking for a great place to dine.
I am a hard-core meat eater and was skeptical about going to Sage. However, it was a co-worker's birthday and this is where she wanted to eat. I am glad we did. The food is absolutely delicious. I order the eggplant farmesan and I scraped my plate. The lemonade was also delicious. The strawberry ice cream (coconut based) was mmmmmm. Other friends ordered the tacos, hot wing pizza, mac n cheese ball and they all loved their food. We will go back.
Food was really great. A person in my party has a cashew allergy and the warnings made her worry about ordering since many items are made of cashews (like many of the cheeses). Luckily she was able to dine just fine after verifying her items were cashew free. I like the looks of the place and while it was noisy I’d say it’s the same volume as comparable restaurants. I liked the variety of dishes offered. The food prices are in like with most places but I thought $8 was a bit steep for one small glass of strawberry lemonade. The have great gluten free options too. Definitely recommend!
Nice ambiance, but it gets loud. Everything we tried was delicious. This will be a regular spot for us.
The food was excellent and fresh. The decor and ambiance was wonderful Lots of variety and offerings. My only complaint is that it was a bit pricey. For my daughter and I, the lunch was close to $100 and we had 2 drinks, 1 appetizer and 2 entrees. I understand that fresh, healthy food tends to be pricey but I felt that the price point on the items were a bit too high.
Great food and nice staff.
This was our second visit and the food is the best thing here. We had good service at our first visit but this time it was poor.
I don’t want to crucify the restaurant for what I believe to be a waiter that didn’t have our best interest in mind.
Two of our items were up sold without our knowledge. My wife wanted a single taco and we received a taco plate. I was hungry enough and what I ordered would hold up enough to take home so we kept the plate.
I’m a sucker for dessert so I ordered the chocolate bread pudding. The menu states an up charge if you want a scoop of ice cream with it. I made no mention of the ice cream because I wanted it without. It came ala mode. I should have refused it right then but I didn’t.
Overall, I say Sage is good. Next time I’ll have my guard up and I likely won’t be as patient.
Had a good server and food. We enjoyed the menu and drink choices. We sat inside and we noticed that the outside seating seemed more quaint and will sit there next time as the inside isn’t as nice. Overall experience was great:)
The food was great! we had bufallo cauliflower pizza and spaghetti squash ravioli. they were amazing, and the business is really driven for the greater good of the planet, which is why my partner and i are vegan!
Very good food and nice service!
The food is so delicious! It is some of the best plan-based food I’ve ever had. The service was excellent, too. I will definitely be back.
There's quite a variety of food here and it was good! Staff was nice. I'm not vegan and I'm allergic to cashews and they have a lot of nut free and/or gluten free choices as well and clearly notated on the menu, which was great! Will be back for more flautas and polenta tots!
Far easier to get a table at this location vs echo park.
Customer service was very poor. I worked in the restaurant industry for many years & have an idea of what “good” service is & it was nothing close of that. The younger adults working the front & even serving lack respect & seem to do whatever they please.
It's food is very healthy and it's taste is delicious.
A real treat was Sage Vegan Bistro suggested by my good foodie friend. An all vegan menu with a diverse selection of flavors and cuisines, the restaurant has locations in Pasadena, Culver City and Echo Park. Pictured is: Jackfruit Stuffed Avocados, Mediterranean Salad, Mole Bowl, Mac n Cheese Pizza, BBQ Pizza, Pasta Pesto and Greens Bowl, Cauliflower ‘Wings’ and the Brownie Sundae for dessert (served with chocolate, strawberry and coconut ice cream). To drink, I had a mock tail with essential oil, my friends had margaritas and a beer. There was so much more on the menu that we were dreaming to try! Previously, I’ve been to the location in Echo Park which has a happening atmosphere for smaller groups but the Pasadena location was more suited for a communal familial vibe, perfect for my friends on a Friday night! 🌱🥑🌮🥙🍕
Thought the good was awesome!
Loved the fact we were able to bring our dog. Food was fresh and tasty
Service is horrible. Waiter was literally throwing dishes on the table and not being friendly. Seemed overwhelmed overworked rushed
Expensive but somewhat tasty.
This was a chance for the restaurant to shine. Instead they made us wait for quiet a while for our first course then proceeded to dump all of our food in the table at once. It didn’t really matter that much because most if it was poorly conceived and exacuted. Would never go back for the place is run like a playground without any obvious experienced supervision. I eat mostly vegan but if this is what I should expect from a small chain I would prefer to eat at home.
Sage is fantastic, the brownies Sunday is the perfect end to a wonderful meal!
Berlin was our server. She's the morning supervisor. She greeted us, got us a table, and then helped us figure out some new things to try. Every single question we had; she had an answer for. She was able to walk me through better options or configurations of dishes that accommodated my gluten free need. I was able to get the gf bagel instead of having the tofu scramble put into a wrap. They laid out everything beautifully in a bowl and then added a nice bagel on the side with the rice and beans. I loved it! We spent 3-1/2 hours sitting and talking. The servers never once made us feel like we needed to move on. Everyone kept refilling our waters and checking on us. It was another fabulous experience.
I ate at Sage this weekend and absolutely loved it. We ordered the loaded nachos, goatless Greek salad, and eggplant artichoke parmesan pizza. All of the food was very flavorful and came in pretty large servings. Our server Val was extremely helpful as well. I will definitely be coming back to Sage!
I’ve only had breakfast one time here. And my sweet potato pancakes were sensational! This was my first time having dinner here. The atmosphere invites you into a place of relaxation and connecting. The food was exceptional! Our server was fabulous! I am allergic to garlic and cannot tolerate spicy foods. Our server was amazing in helping navigate the menu so I could try just the right entrée! I ended up ordering the baked mac & cheese… Which was phenomenal! I also altered the tuna wrap to make it taco style so that I was able to thoroughly enjoy it. I cannot wait to come and try something else and get dessert next time!
From start to finish, everything was excellent. Beautiful atmosphere, great service and amazing food. I will definitely be returning soon.
Oops!!! The lion ventured into the grazers' den … What an unlikely scenario, but turns out, it was not a bad experience for me, the carnivore, to get lost in this vegan/vegetarian place.
The inviting inside is cozy and makes you want to sit down immediately. Only negative about that was the cold from the opening door … The service (after a delay) was prompt but appeared disengaged.
There was the option of the dineL.A. fixed dinner menu for 29$. However, I chose to go a la carte. The food was very creative, beautifully presented, fresh, and offered a full and round flavor. Eliote (grilled corn with garlic, chili, parmesan and cilantro), Jackfruit-Stuffed Avocado, a Goatless Greek Salad, a Miso Rainbow Bowl, a Cali Avocado Burger, and a Caprese Flatbread made a wonderful combination of items and offered plenty of delicious food, such that amazingly enough there was no need for meat !!!
What I found way to ve(g)ligious was the drinks. Okay there are several exotic beers which I skipped due to call duty. The choice of non-alcoholic drinks is pathetic!! Kombucha – yikes ... I always thought that a coke or sprite are also plant-based …???

Sage is excellent. The food is always really good. I think it’s a little too expensive compared to similar restaurants but we go there often anyway. On our most recent visit the service was very friendly but a little slow and we found ourselves waiting for fifteen minutes trying to get the check.
