We liked space and the service but were disappointed in the food. We had the duck and the special filet. The latter was served with lukewarm fiddle heads. Maybe the kitchen had an off night for this was mediocre cooking.
Second visit - Sage checks all the boxes on consistency and quality. We sat out on the deck for this visit and it was once again a wonderful experience. The caesar salad and foie gras were our openers. The salad was large enough to split, which the kitchen kindly did for us, and the foie gras duo came with two separate and amazing sauces. My wife had the steak special and the lamb vindaloo was perfectly seasoned, only missing a naan or any kind of bread to scoop up all of the tasty bits.
Service was once again an amazing team effort led by Jonathan. The wine recommendation from the manager for zinfandel to stand up to the lamb and the well-seasoned steak was perfect. Notable and different is how your server comes to get you and take you to your table as if welcoming guests into a more personal environment.
This was once again a pre-opera meal, a mere two-block walk to the opera house. With our reservation time 2 hours ahead of the curtain, we had more than enough time to leisurely savor the wonderful meal, share a dessert and not have the service rushed, and enjoy an easy stroll up the street.
Just a wonderful gem in the arts district - highly recommended!!
Dinner pre opera. Service was perfect. The foos flavors were great. Nice wine selection. Somewhat expensive but knew that going in.
Very attractive venue and menu representing several cuisines. Lamb and short ribs entrees were superb. One of the best in Sarasota!
Perfect in every way!
Food was not up to par. Mostly my veal chop. And dessert was just ok
Most creative and deliciously executed menu in Sarasota. At our table of three we had a Thai bouillabaise, a Butter Fish, and a grilled Veal Chop. All three perfectly prepared. Excellent wine and drink selections compliment the cuisine and the building is gorgeous. Chef Chris Covelli has outdone himself! We will be back soon!
This was our first time to Sage. The building is gorgeous as well as the decor. The menu is very interesting with many different spices and combinations. Since I am a vegetarian there was very little for me to eat. But the Chef did use his magic to whip up a vegetable dish with Black rice and it was delicious.
We made a reservation thru opentable at 6pm. When we arrived on time and informed the lady our last name 3 times at different min. Internal. We waited. One couples arrived and immediately called them to be seated. Another couple arrived and immediately called to be seated while we were waiting. Then my husband became upset and yelled at that lady at front. Why? do we have to wait because we are deaf??? Really?? no excuses for that.
Waitress was well informed, pleasant, accomodating. Restaurant has style. Food presentation was excellent. Making a cocktail was treated as an art. Food is inventive and satisfies the senses. Be prepared for an experience that is out of the ordinary.
Unbelievable. Absolutely hands down the best restaurant in Sarasota. If this place was in New York it would rival the very top restaurants. Go with a couple of people so that you can taste several dishes. Everything is exquisite.
Risotto was not hot. Steak was exceptional but accompanying tomato pastry was unremarkable. Dessert was not great. I will try again because this was a prixfix menu for Valentine’s Day—and we dined last seating. I think could be better on a normal day
Valentine’s Day! Our service was incredible! Unfortunately there was a preselected menu that we were not told about so we didn’t get the options we had hoped for. I am gluten free so I wasn’t able to enjoy the fully selected meals for us however they were able to accommodate. For the price, we were hoping we could select our menu. However, we will absolutely try again in the future outside of holiday dates.
Nice atmosphere but we were seated in the bar area next to a pillar. Wait staff was great and food was delivered hot and on a timely basis. Should have known better than to go out on a Valentines Day Friday night though. Set menu on that night that was not well communicated when I booked well in advance and there was no price on the menu when they delivered it to you. We were only a party of two and they included the 20% tip when they delivered the bill. Price was absurd on top of that.
Valentine's dinner, fixed price menu with only two entry choices. Food was good but at half the price. No mention when making reservations as to the menu or price. Service was excellent but as expected at any cost at a fine dining establishment Spoke with a friend who ate there the evening before at half the price. I think they took advantage of the evening and have lost my future patronage.
This is a first for me. I've never rated a restaurant down after an otherwise nice experience. When I booked this on Open Table, I was under the impression that a full menu would be available. No mention was made of a fixed price Valentine Day menu. We weren't advised of this until we were seated. Obviously, this left us no option to dine elsewhere as we had other plans for the evening. My mistake for not asking for the cost of the meal up front but I thought that the price would be reasonable. The staff was polite but not very friendly. The meal was very good albeit small portions. Service very good when the server was available. No bread was offered. No choice on sparkling water or tap. Two entree choices. We each had a glass of wine. Total tab - $300. I didn't raise a stink about it because I guess it's buyer beware but I feel like we got suckerpunched . If this was meant to be a special Valentine experience, the restaurant totally missed it. I've eaten in the best steak house in Atlanta for two-thirds the cost of this meal and they actually made me feel welcome. Unfortunately, this experience has soured us on ever returning.
Wonderful service and delicious food. It was a fixed menu for Valentine’s Day with a choice of entree, filet mignon or salmon. All the dishes were exceptional. They were willing to accommodate vinaigrette and sauces on the side. The wait staff were extremely knowledgeable about the dishes. We want to go back and try their diverse menu from around the world.
It was my birthday and we wanted to try other restaurants that we haven’t been to. The staff were friendly but our waitress was a little slow...she was nice but slow. She was just too busy with other tables inside as we were seated outside. My food was on the salty side which started with the soup. The ambiance was very nice. The rooftop would be nice to hang out with friends. Overall it was okay.
Went into try the new menu they introduced in Jan 2020....very "fusion". The entree came out in 5-6 minutes and was barely warm...I like my short ribs hot. My friend had Lamb vindalo and it was also warm not hot . With all the great restaurants in SRQ, I probably won't be returning. When you pay $35.00 for short ribs we ll have a certain level of expectation.....
Lovely atmosphere and delicious dinner. Only caveat is that menu is a bit limited. We’ll definitely be back.
Appreciate that food is freshly prepared, but 2 hours plus for a two course meal is too long. What's with no bread? That's close to a deal killer.
Best restaurant in Sarasota, hands down, and I’ve tried them all. Excellent, knowledgeable staff, seasonal multi-ethnic menu, perfect food, and creative desserts. Bonus for me—the make great craft drinks with non-alcoholic spirits.
Beautiful set up in a stunning historic building. Menu limited and a bit pricey as all the portions are very small including appetizers and desserts, don't expect to share. Delicious cocktails, however be careful when order a cocktail and requesting anything other than their "lower shelf
/well" alcohol, $5 up charge in addition to the above average pricing per drink, all drinks.
From walking into the beautiful entryway, to the last bite, a wonderful and memorable meal. Our server Jonathan was knowledgeable, helpful and on his game. He was well supported by others on the team, keeping our water topped off, food delivered hot, and an all around experience for our dinner. Jonathan went the extra mile finding a bottle of wine from our favorite region that was hiding, which really made the entire meal perfect.
We will be back, for the service, the eclectic and interesting decor and, the food!!!
Dislike paying $2.50 for ice with a measured pour for gin on the rocks.
Our third time there?
Much improved. Great nw menu. Well trained servers. Beautiful room.
Historic setting with a very modern menu, servers very knowledgeable
DEAFENING!! Very $$$. No to a second time.
Stunning atmosphere. Food good, but very pricey. Not sure we'll go back, but we did enjoy the ambiance.
Beautifully renovated building, tasty food, attentive service, knowledgeable waiter. Appreciated the reasonably priced wine list.
Sage SRQ is phenomenal! You would be crazy not to try it. Everyone is fantastic from Hosts all the way to the top bartenders, servers, Chef and his team and the amazing Owner, Sharon of course! What they have done with the building is outstanding! The overall experience was delightful o brought my grandparents here for the first time to celebrate my birthday. My grandmother is a hard woman to please and she was absolutely wowed! Chef Chris brought out an amuse bouche for us to try, pan seared Wahoo with a delicious apricot sauce, Grandma does not do fish so we didn't tell her what it was till after she gobbled it up. This trip I had the short rib and my grandfather had the butterfish, everything was so delicious, it makes my mouth water just thinking about it. I've been to Sage many times and I'm a huge fan! Check out the awesome things they are doing! Such a wonderful atmosphere to be in. Thank you Sage Family keep doing what you are doing! Side note we just did wine this night but all their cocktails are so yummy! And if you don't see something you like on the cocktail menu they can concoct just about anything you can think of.
Nothing else in Sarasota compares. This is a unique dining experience. The menu is creative and absolutely delicious from the first bite to the last
We knew Chef from our summers in Provincetown, MA where we patronized his restaurant there. So it was no surprise that we were going to have a great meal on our anniversary. Che greeted us and we talked “old times” and then had a fantastic dinner. Spacing between tables is good, service is v.g., especially for Sarasota. A real treat!
The entire experience was a delight as soon as we stepped inside this beautiful building and ask what was it. A 1920 Newspaper facility and beautifully restored and decorated. Next was the service very attentive and knowledgeable in the food and direction in making our selections. I chose the Butter Fish and Lentil Currey Soup. What a great choice. Chefs flavor structure is on point and great culinary experience. Highly recommend and we will return with friends 👫
We are foodies from the Boston area and have had many delicacies from all over. Hands down the finest cuisine you will find in Florida period.. The level of care that goes into everything that Sage does is beyond anything you will find in any major city... NYC, LA, Chicago, etc.. These owners and chef know exactly what they are doing... The mixologists at the bar Cloe and Courtney are about the best I’ve seen.., There isn’t a high enough rating for this outstanding restaurant.... Kuddos to you ALL!!! Good lunch and much continued success.. Charles David Salons and Spas
Wonderful place. Service a little slow in between courses, paying, etc. but server was very personable and knowledgeable. Food was excellent, especially the braised beef rib. Prices are high, deserve $$$$ notation.
Terrific food and ambience! Loved it.
Dinner was excellent great atmosphere and wonderful service.i will return next visit to Sarasota.
Excellent food and service! Drinks and atmosphere were on point as well! Don’t forget a trip to the rooftop bar! We already made another reservation! Highly recommend this place!
