American
Relaxed fine dining with historic ambience and Mission décor for elevated American fare with California, French and Mediterranean flair. The imaginative menu changes with the season to include vegetables and herbs from our own garden in addition to eco-sustainable fish, vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan options, many of which are organic and sourced locally from small growers and farmers through our local CSA (Community Sourced Agriculture). Outdoor dining under a pergola-covered terrace overlooking the gardens during the summer months or when weather permits.

Very good & fresh food in a historic hotel at the base of Mt. Shasta. It was so good the first night, we returned on our second night there. Sydney, our waitress, was delightful.

Our first visit to Sage was a pleasant one. A very small intimate dining area in a romantic setting near the lobby of the McCloud Hotel. The food was gourmet. The service was fast and friendly. A very enjoyable time. We would definitely recommend it for special occasions. Reservations advised for high season as seating is limited.

The food was wonderful and excellent service! The waitress selected a great wine to compliment our dinner. Love the proximity of the dining to our room.

The Sage is a jewel in the beautiful, quaint but tiny town of McCloud. The hotel is wonderful but a significant reason for staying there is the chef and service at the Sage

Between four of us, we had char (served with vegetables and roasted kale), duck, celery soup, Caesar salad, lava cake, sorbet, and some sort of French dessert (pot of chocolate, or some such thing). All the dishes were presented well and tasted great. The char and the pot of chocolate were especially outstanding. The service was excellent. The only problem was that hardly anyone was there on a Sunday night. This place is a McCloud gem waiting to be discovered. It is well worth a drive. The wine menu is also excellent. The ambiance is quaint and charming.

Have made the trip from Mt. Shasta to McCloud a couple of times now and never disappointed. Great food and service--never feel rushed.

Absolutely wonderful dinner! The Artic Char was superb. My wife’s fish was also excellent. We were staying at the McCloud hotel and made reservations at the Sage as it was convenient. We were very pleasantly surprised to find the restaurant a real gourmet experience. We’ll make plans to dine there again.

Excellent. I enjoyed Our hostess Julia. Our waitress was great until end of the evening when she got caught doing all cleanup in the kitchen. Otherwise it was a great experience!!!! I highly recommend.

This was such a sweet restaurant that served delicious food. Our wait staff was attentive yet left us to our quiet conversation. This was a great experience.

Best restaurant in Siskiyou County in my opinion. I'm from the Bay Area living in Napa California. Now a resident McCloud. I compare the Sage Restaurant to restaurants in Napa Valley.

The dining room was unusually quiet, as many visitors had cancelled plans due to all the smoke in the air from the region's enormous wildfires. That made it especially cozy and easy to chat with a couple in the booth next to us. Food was very good, especially the lamb shank. Good service.

Sage is a first class restaurant in a small town. It is reasonably priced, the food delicious, staff friendly and a cozy atmosphere. I recommend making a reservation because it is small. You will not be disappointed! Excellent, charming restaurant in a historic hotel.

Went to Sage for New Years Eve dinner. Reservation was for 7 pm but was told that the “2nd” sitting was @ 7:30. No problem & we sat in the waiting area by the fireplace & sipped champagne. We ran into old friends that are locals & chatted w/ them & their friends. Nice. Finally got seated @ 8:30. The dining room is very small & they had put additional ( like doubled ) tables in the small, enclosed dining room & larger tables outside the dining room 4 larger parties. It felt very cramped & our fabulous waitress was a bit large & had to squeeze by the table.. resulting in “excuse me” 50 times. The food was good, a little slow to table but I’m sure the kitchen was overwhelmed. I will say the waitstaff was fabulous & VERY accommodating , all in good moods & courteous! We love this little restaurant but trying to pack em in on a holiday, doesn’t really work. The guitar player was a plus! Will b back!

I booked on Open Table for December 23 for dinner. I later found out that they were doing a special Dickens Dinner for the first time. Include horse drawn carriage, awesome preset dinner, and a special presentation of Scrooge by a local actor. Entire night was fantastic. The entire place was decorated and was overall a special Christmas evening to remember. After talking to the owner sounds like they will be doing this on a regular basis, so highly recommend going for this dinner.

Food was well prepared and presented.
Wine list was extensive but very over-priced. Probably best to BYOB and pay corkage.

With business colleagues in town for multiple day meetings the Sage restaurant offered a much needed respite. Seated outside in casual elegance the menu offered a variety of tastes that met a diverse appetite in our party. The food was excellent, the ambiance near perfection, and the service the right blend of meeting our needs while giving us the time and space to converse. Fortunately I live close by so I will be returning again while my compatriots may have to savor this evening repast as a memorable once in a lifetime experience!

There really isn't any choice of places to eat in Mccloud for dinner so this was it! We shared crab cake for starter and it was good but small portion for top dollars. Having lived in NYC for 4 years we are used to expensive meals and this is expensive! The crab cake starter was the same price as we would pay in a top notch restaurant but a lot smaller portion. My main was the steak which was a nice cut of meat but the garlic butter was far to overpowering on both the meat and the vegetables. I love garlic and cook with it pretty much everyday so for me to think something is too garlicky it says a lot. $90 for 1 appetizer 2 mains and 2 drinks is overpriced.

Sweet spot, excellent food. We moved into the sitting area for dessert and wine, so we felt like we had two excellent sitting spots. The Cooper & Thief red wine blend aged in bourbon whiskey barrels, though a touch on the sweet side and not my thing, was one of the most enjoyable red wine experience I've had in ages - went back and got a bottle to take home.

Excellent cuisine, high quality food, service was impeccable, surroundings very interesting, great photos of the early 1900's. I would rate it as the nicest dinner I have ever had in the McCloud/Mt Shasta area.
