Our group (4 adults and 2 teenagers) felt the menu was very disappointing, particularly the appetizers. Seriously, pheasant soup as an appetizer? Far, far too expensive for the lousy options of basic bread and cheese dips and a meat/cheese tray. The occasion was a birthday and I felt we could’ve had a much better meal elsewhere.

The lodge is outstanding. The food was good and the people were knowledgeable. We will come back and stay overnight and eat there again. Very nice.

Service and ambience were fantastic. The food was just ok. I just expected more from a place like this. The huckleberry waffle could have been/had the quality of a typical hotel breakfast buffet. The benedict was good not great. Most of what we ordered was just mediocre. The almond croissant was amazing and the drinks were good. Overall, for the money, I would not come back.

We had a wonderful waitress, Sarah. Everything was perfect, six of us. We were talking, and she kept up w the table, made sure everything was served correctly, and on time. Food was freshly made, tasted great. Coffee was refilled quickly- couldn’t ask for anything more. Great breakfast-

Not as good as it usually is. Our server was uninformed of specials, but she did go find out the information. She was either incapable or it was understaffed. (The dinning room wasn't full, but I only saw one other server.) My gem salad was without a dressing, it was VERY dry, but I could not flag our server to get some dressing. The grouse would have been tasty if it wasn't too salty. But, again the server didn't come by to check on our table.

The food and service were VERY good, but we were the only table there, so one hopes that the same would be if the dinning room was busy. Unfortunately, in this economy, the bill was pretty high. Which is sad, because we can't dine at Sage as often as we had in the past due to the big rise in prices. The food was really tasty, however, we didn't order some items on the menu due to the use of seed oils, because it's now coming out that seed oils cause heart disease and other illnesses due to oxygenation seed oil causes.

Been here a lot so this is tough to write— disappointing experience. Food sent back; cold, under cooked & over salted. Had to wait for another order while my husband ate his meal. Crammed in a 2 person table while 4 tops were open (even though we had a reservation). No apology or inquiry from the room captain/manager. Server was kind, she was working hard. Comped a dessert but we left with less than a “good” taste in our mouths. Tighten up Sage Lodge, winter is coming.

We loved the Fireside room so much we ate there a second time for dinner. And the trout was so good the first time that I had to order it again! We also got the baguette with the whipped tallow topped with togarashi. Wow. Amazing. There were good breakfasts served there as well. Some of the servers got to know us because of our visits for breakfast, dinner, and drinks in between, and we barely had to order because they knew what we wanted. Very sweet and professional servers. Great chef.

We sat out on the patio and it was very pleasant. We had just come off the trail and the staff kept the cold water coming while waiting for our meal. Kids were playing quietly in the grassy/play area next to the patio, and people were fishing down at the lake. The dinner was expensive but good, and we didn't wait long for our food. We waited a little long before the waitress checked back in to order dessert. We would have ordered the bread pudding but it would have taken an additional 15 minutes to make it, and we had already waited a while to order it. We weren't having cocktails (long, strenuous day of hiking) but if we had been, we would have ordered and waited for dessert.

We have spent four days in the Yellowstone area and this is the best meal we have had by far. Michael did an outstanding job taking care of us. He perfectly balanced offering suggestions without being pushy; a real professional. We are looking forward to coming back here the next time we come to Montana!
