We made our reservation using Open Table. When we got there, they said that "Open Table never works" and that they didn't have our reservation. "You should call us directly." Then they told us that we'd have to wait until a table opened up. They were very rude and acted like we'd done something wrong. Too bad. I love their food, but won't go to a place that doesn't want my business.

Very nice staff and good Indian food! However, I felt that the food was quite pricey for the portion size.

After several visits to Saffron, we still find it the best and most reliable Indian restaurant in Norfolk. Very good food that fits anyone's taste.

The husband and I were feeling adventurous and decided on a whim to go try Saffron. Never had Indian Before. Upon our arrival, we informed our waitress it was our first time ever, and asked for recommendations. From appetizers to dessert, she gave us an amazing experience full of great choices and recommendations. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place!! Love it!!

Alright, here is the scoop, if you are a couple, one should get the chili chicken the other cucumber salad for appetizers, then share FANTASTIC.
The house wines are generous and not inconsequential, Standard Indian fare is fresh and high quality: Curry Chicken, Nan Bread, etc.
Some dishes are offered as Hot, Very Hot, and Indian Hot so be careful.
Be sure to have the Kheer for dessert, made in house daily and best in the city.

We greatly enjoyed our dinner there. The food was different from other Indian fare. It was fresh and creatively prepared. Ambiance was minimal but food and service made up for it.

Several vegan options, although they ran out of samosas a minute after we got there. Food was hot and tasty.

This was our second visit; the first was a wonderful dinner that would have been hard to beat. In this case the restaurant appeared a bit too frenetic and short on wait staff. We must have waited nearly five minutes at the front desk to simply be recognized and seated...with a reservation and restaurant barely one-third full. Saffron remains a very good Indian restaurant (perhaps the best) in Norfolk. But they need to smooth out and stabilize their service capabilities.

We ate at Saffron before a performance at Chrysler Hall which is around the corner. The lunch buffet was fabulous--great food and well-prepared! Try it!

Saffron is an exciting addition to the vibrant Downtown Norfolk restaurant scene. The food preparation and seasoning were perfect. The wait staff is knowledgeable and efficient.

but we enjoyed the dinner. the staff and service was extermely friendly and they gave us nice recommendations when we explained that we had not tried much Indian food before and that we were not into spicy food. Overall, the food was good and the service was great. I'm not likely to eat Indian food in the next few months, simply because it is not my preference, but I would like to go back to this place in the next year.

We had been to Saffron way over in Virginia Beach. It's great to have our own branch in Norfolk, half a block from Scope and the Chrysler. Wonderful new dishes, a long vegetarian menu... We tried the Peshawar chicken which was subtlety flavored with fruit in a smooth sauce. Have to go back to try more dishes!
Staff is very helpful, if you're unfamiliar with Indian cooking.

I have been to Saffron in Norfolk several times since they opened back in the fall/early winter. Every time I go, I'm impressed by the quality of the food they serve and the staff's efforts to please the customer. The hosts and servers want to make sure you leave Saffron happy and are glad to accommodate special requests. The restaurant has a relaxed, mellow ambiance and it is impeccably clean. A wonderful addition to downtown Norfolk!

The wife and I hardly get to date anymore, but when we do we are very picky on where we go for dinner. Saffron is a great place to dine. The menu is great, very tasty, and reasonably portioned. You leave the table satisfied. You must try the naan platter, very appetizing. Now for desserts...if you havent had authentic indian ice-cream and pastries, you may be surprised, but not in a good way. Just be ready for it, it is authentic and tasty, but I think you should have an acquired taste for the textures and flavors.

We finshed our meal with a delicious spiced chai tea, very tasty. There is a full bar, and the bartender is very familiar with mixing populare drinks. Or just ask him to surprise you.

The newest restaurant in the area serving Indian food and far and away the best! Very good recipes made with high quality ingredients...the lamb was some of the best we've had. We read earlier reviews that commented on some service discrepancies. Obviously the restaurant took it to heart. We had very good service, perhaps even a bit too much, but everyone was concerned that we were happy with our meal, drinks, etc. Several other Indian restaurants in our area seem to be focused on buffet service, substituting volume for quality. Saffron is presenting quality! This was our first visit, we shall return.

The other recent reviews of Saffron-Norfolk are right on the mark. The food is really, really good, and not just because it is different from standard American fare. No it's good because it is delicious on its own, spicy and complex. Now they haven't yet gotten their act together as to service - everything was fine and prompt, but sometimes awkward - three different people took our drink order, for instance. But we'll go back in a heartbeat - a great addition to downtown!!

I had lunch there with a party of 8 people. There were only a handful of other customers in the restaurant. We were given prompt attention when we first arrived, and our 1st course was delivered quickly; however, there was about an hour wait between the 1st course and main lunch dishes. Overall, it took us between 1.5 to 2 hours for lunch. The gentleman accross the table from me found a piece of plastic bag in his salad. Otherwise, the food was good, and I would like to go back and try other items on the menu. I'll just make sure that I have plenty of time.

Great to have a serious Indian restaurant in downtown Norfolk. We plan to explore the full menu. You may not want seating in the booths along the outside walls. The spacing is very tight and cannot be changed - we are not a large or overweight couple and we asked to move to a table.

We had a great meal and Saffron in Norfolk and will be back. Service was 4.0 and Amol did a great job of explaining the various Indian dishes that we had not experienced before. My wife and I enjoy Indian and will be back again to try out something new. The Salmon curry was a delight.

I had a 7:30 reservation for 4 during Restaurant Week. I waited an hour for my table (but the size of my party did increase to 5 while I was waiting and that caused a delay). I waited at the bar where there was no bartender working. It took 30 minutes to get a beer. At 8:30 when we were seated I was so glad we waited. The food was wonderful. I had never had Indian food before and was surprised how much I liked it. The choices for Restaurant Week were perfect for beginners. The portions were large. I would go back in a second. I am so glad we made it past the rough start.

We arrived at the restaurant at 5:45 for a 6:00 p.m. reservation with few other patrons present. Even though we ordered immediately, it was 6:15 before appetizers arrived. Entrees took another 20 minutes. The food was good (but apparently not as good as the VA Beach location). The service was just ridiculously slow and disorganized. Staff members were openly arguing about it on the dining room floor. No one else was receiving service any better than us. Our table was in the center near the front. We received an icy cold blast every time the door opened.

Very delicious food. Best Naan I ever tasted. Great Ambiance. Still working out some kinks in the service, but this is a wonderful family owned restaurant.
