Best 5 Restaurants 2017 - TIMES-PICAYUNE
Saffron nola, the Vilkhu family's first full time restaurant venture, stemming from their pop up restaurant of 6 years and their 26-year catering business. Chef Arvinder Vilkhu marries his Indian heritage with local and global flavors while using classical and modern techniques. Ashwin Vilkhu, GM and Bar director uses those same nuanced flavors and incorporates them into a thoughtful cocktail menu. Pairings were also taken into account when developing the wine menu, while paying very close attention to what varietals work best with South Asian food.
The super approachable menu is the Vilkhu family's communication of the evolution of Indian cuisine through New Orleans. Their overall goal is to provide quality food, superior service in a warm-hospitable environment...while engaging all senses.
What an amazing dinner and amazing experience at Saffron on Saturday. Hands down the BEST food and atmosphere for group of friends to enjoy.
Great food, drink and service! You MUST get the oysters - amazing
Our waitress was very unpleasant. We enjoyed our appetizer but the entrees not so much.
Good food but same menu for the last 3 years at least. Nothing new.
Honestly, one of the best restaurants in NOLA. This place really will expand your palete. Also, they probably have the best version of chargrilled oysters in the city. Do yourself a f(l)avor and dine here.
Great service, easy to navigate menu, delicious four course meal for very reasonable price. Never felt rushed. We would definitely return and encourage our friends to enjoy this great restaurant.
Saffron NOLA never disappoints! Our food was outstanding. We took our daughter for her 18th birthday and it was a treat for us all-- oysters, tamarind shrimp, lentil pancakes with crabmeat -- all delicious.
There was confusion through Open Table about our reservation but the management took care of it and they were most gracious about it. Would definitely recommend for food, drink and atmosphere.
Appetizer chicken was raw. Otherwise food was great
Amazingly flavorful food with great service in a beautiful, chic setting and a cool clientele.
Excellent food and service.
Most favorite spot in town!
Heard about Saffron from Ashley Longshore. Was blown away. Every detail is perfect.
Love Saffron! The food, staff and family make it such a wonderful experience!
Wonderful dinner. The food and service were outstanding, with attention to detail being exemplary. Indian food with an overlay of Creole/Cajun (my characterization). Best version of chicken biriyani ever. Definitely recommend.
Lots of screaming babies and children. Staff did not address the parents.
Saffron never disappoints, was particularly impressed with the service this visit!
Amazing elevated Indian food with a New Orleans flair!
Everything was wonderful. Great food, service, ambiance. We could share food and hear each other. Very pleasant dining. Plan to go back and try other things.
Love this place
While not a "typical" New Orleans restaurant, Saffron NOLA has an interesting menu with some New Orleans inspired dishes. Outstanding servers who know what comes from the kitchen.
This is the best Indian restaurant in the Region. James Beard nominated. New Orleans is lucky to have it right there on Magazine Street. I love the goat and the vindaloo. Don't delay. Get a reservation.
It was incredible! Amazing service! Phenomenal cocktails and food!!!
Amazing food and wonderful service! Try the pork vindaloo.
Great food and service. A bit pricey. I feel I can only go on special occasions.
This is my second time here and this time the food was decent but our waiter was not very friendly or present. We could see him joking and being friendly to the hostesses at the front but when he made his rounds to his tables the smile drop and all we got a was cold blank face responses. The front hostess all had fake smiles and was not authentic to guest. However the other staff that bought the food to the table was friendly and always seem genuine happy and would explain the dishes and always kept our drink glasses full. It was a birthday dinner with no joy from the establishment at all. We spent nearly $300 for 4 people and did not leave satisfy. Do not think we will be back for a third time.
Wonderful restaurant. Delicious food and perfect service!
Second time at Saffron NOLA and it might have been better than the first time! We're from out of town and when we know we're coming to NOLA, we set up a reservation at Saffron! Their menu might be small but they do everything on it perfect! Highlights included the pork vindaloo and the chicken biriyani along with the roti choices and the naan. So good! Can't wait to go back!
First visit. Amazing food, awesome people, and great ambiance. Will definitely become a regular.
One of the top 10 meals I’ve had in New Orleans! It was EXCELLENT🤗
The service is excellent. The food is beautifully presented. The flavors are interesting. We had lamb, fish and shrimp and everyone said they would order it again.
The service impeccable from hostesses to multiple waiters filling water taking orders answering questions wait staff and wine steward exceptional
Again, one of the best dining experiences that I have had. The food is not only amazing, but the staff is the best in New Orleans. Maybe anyware
Stingy portions. Could have done a lot better than serving tasting size portions. Roti (bread) was uncooked. Vegetarian food had no taste.
Don’t waste your time or money here.
Fantastic dining experience! Cauliflower pakoras- delicious!
Tandoori Pumpkin appetizer—very tasty and unique and again, delicious!
The restaurant staff were wonderful! We had a late reservation but the service was still spectacular. They were winding down but the kitchen still provided wonderful food. The rotis were freshly made. Both eggplant dishes were very tasty. As was the makhni dhal. Raita was unique and memorable. Their house made chai is aromatic and refreshing. Their cocktail list is unique. Do try this cocktail as an after dinner drink: Anti-Inflammatory. Unique experience. You’ll enjoy it.
Amazing food, drinks, ambiance, and service. The oysters are amazing. A great meld of spices and flavors from New Orleans and India. A must!
Great food, service and value for money, people who like their Indian food hot should be aware that none of the dishes turn up the heat, I had the vindaloo hoping for the heat but was not there, tasted good thought
An interesting experience. Quite a unique drink list. Nice. And the food was quite good. The pork was delicious but would recommend something rather than plain white rice. The nom was very good. We shared three sides, the shiitake, the eggplant, and the cauliflower - all good. The oysters are the crowning dish - delicious. Cheesecake and French pressed coffee ended our lovely evening. Expensive but a nice occasion. Our server Andrew was great. Recommend.
The food was amazing!!! The gumbo is award winning. It was the best experience we will now be regulars
