Rye Street Tavern
Really nice setting. Food was good, but would have preferred more menu options.
Got there for a 6:15 reservation made for 6 people. Hostess greeted us but had our reservation for 2 people. Told us to wait while she saw what they could do. Waited at the desk for 15 minutes before chatting again. I was asked how I made the reservation... Told her it was over open table. Received a "sometimes people put the reservations in for the wrong number of people". Odd time to make an excuse instead of an apology, and that got me annoyed. I showed her the 6 person reservation on my phone. Received an "I dont know what happened. You can go wait outside or at the bar while we try to set something up." So we did, for 30 more minutes without a word from a host. One finally came over and told us we'd be seated in 15 minutes. And that did hold true.
After that, food was great, service was a little slow but nothing complaint worthy. All around a good meal. Whiskey at the waterfront was a hit with my group as well.
Noticably absent from the entire night was the word "sorry", or any kind of attempt to make it right via a comped item or something like that. Very disappointed for the first time by Rye Street. Weren't even offered the damn muffins at the end per usual.
Perfect ambiance on a cool summers eve overlooking the water. Mouthwatering cocktails. Make sure to visit Sagamore Pendry before dining at Rye Street Tavern!
Best outdoor seating in the city! Food is very good
Noise in the bar area. Food and service were pretty good. Hi quality ingredients. Wings could have been more crispy though. Also, the seafood bake takes effort to eat and can be very messy. I do not recommend for a date meal.
Everything I thought it would be and more! Great service, delicious food, very cool ambiance. Would definitely recommend to a friend and will definitely be coming back!
This was our first visit to Rye Street Tavern. At first glance, the location is well-situated by the water, with plenty of space which is well used. The decor within the restaurant is just as impressive. However, what was not impressive was the lack of geniality from the staff.
As a business owner, I understand the impact of a smile and an authentic welcome, but it seems that the overall feel of the staff was a bit aloof and somber - that is, until our server "Dawiyd" greeted us. He was welcoming, attentive, and knowledgable.
Regarding the food, some items were great (Oysters...although pricier than most places, 'Really nice summer things', Cherokee red tomatoes, Biscuits, etc), and some were not so great (Crab Cobb salad, Shrimp & Grits, etc).
All in all, we can't honestly say that we'd refer others to Rye Street Tavern. However, we might return ourselves, as long as Dawiyd is our server.
A little pricey and portions were small but very tasty. Overall ambience was nice. Take the Sagamore Spirit Distillery tour followed by dinner at the Rye Street Tavern for a delightful evening.
We had a party of 8; service was terrific. She offered recommendations for appetizers for the group and assisted with the menu.
We really enjoyed dining outside on a summer evening and were happy to be able to take advantage of that space as a quieter alternative to inside the restaurant. We enjoyed our food though options for us were limited due to dietary restrictions and gluten cross contamination issues with the grill as well as limited flexibility on the restaurant's part (for example, they would only serve specific sorbet/ice cream flavors as part of desserts that all included pastry portions that we could not eat -- the server offered to ask the kitchen if they would serve the sorbet/ice cream on the side as opposed to on top of the pastry but didn't even seem confident that would be allowed!). As a result of these limitations we ordered/spent less than we would have otherwise and are much less likely to return.
We made a reservation and were seated at a hightop in the bar. Not exactly what we were expecting from a reservation with no seating options. Other than that the food and service were great.
Food was good. But very slow bar and kitchen. Put a damper on everything else. The speed was acknowledged a couple times from the server who apologized. But nothing was done about it.
Excellent location on the water, prompt professional service. Our server was great.
Food was awesome
Simply perfect. Chelsea is the best server in Baltimore!
The service was above par as the resturant, on a Tuesday ?, was packed.
Ability to sample open bottles of wine for entree pairing.
The bright ceilings, concrete floor, and additional bright surfaces made the overall noise extremely loud. We had a great table with a great view, only after refusing a table right next to the front door/reception area. We could actually hear a party 5 seats away which o found odd.
The entree and appetizers, crab special- deviled eggs with crab blend, were fabolous.
It was a great overall experience and would recommend you trying this out. We'll be returning...
I celebrate my birthday here every year because the food is stellar and the atmosphere is amazing! Love this restaurant and it never disappoints!
I really wanted to like this place. The location was great, the outdoor seating area looked really cool. We ended up sitting inside which was just ok because we sat under a vortex of cold air. We had reservations, but it didn't seem packed when we arrived. The waiter was nice, but not very attentive. We had to ask twice to get the table re-leveled. I ordered a drink from the bar and specifically asked that it be "light on the alcohol" - it ended up tasting like cough syrup anyways. On the second try, the bartender filled the drink up with very very tart lemonade. I asked for some simple syrup to try and make this problem go away. Instead of bringing me some, the waiter took my entire glass to the bar and returned it with no difference in the volume of liquid in the glass or taste. So I gave up. Sipped on tap the rest of the night.
Our appetizers were so slow in coming the manager comped them completely. Fast forward another 30 minutes before our entrees arrived. The food was good...just good. Not great. Not memorable. Not anything that would overcome the rest of the evening. So I'm going to say this was a disappointing evening. Would I make the drive across town for a 2nd try? Probably not - especially if I drive by 25 great restaurants downtown on my way here.
One of the best meals and overall dining experiences I have had.
The building and outdoor space is beautiful. Server could have been much more efficient. Seemed to be all over the place and the meal took much longer than it should have. The entrees were great, rabbit stew and fried chicken. The cornbread was really dry and not very warm and the crab Louie were good. Overall not a lot of green or veggie options. Lots of fried foods.
Great atmosphere and service. Fish tacos were delicious- would have liked one more as they were small. Definitely would recommend.
Great food, service and atmosphere
Everything was good, the only thing that was a issue was the food wasn't as good as the last time we were there.
Nice location and views. Excellent food and service. Good wine and spirit list
Food was outstanding. Service was excelling.
Excited to return.
Always a great place for dinner or drinks with friends.
The service on this particular night was outstanding. The waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly and quite personable. The summer appetizer was delicious, very fresh and perfect for dining al fresco. The quail, however, wasn't so wonderful. It was just okay. The apricots stuffed inside were unnecessary. Also, it arrived to the table a bit dry. My bf enjoyed the rabbit stew very much. We've been here several times and will return again. We just won't get the quail.
Met some out of town friends there for dinner. Our first visit. What a great place! Great cocktails and interesting food choices. Highly recommend!!!
Really struggled with the menu...especially the appetizers. The fried chicken frankly was not as good as RoFo's. We love the atmosphere and the service was wonderful but the dinner was was 25-35% overpriced.
Great fried chicken. Attentive service. Nice vibe but very noisy.
Excellent fried chicken; top notch cocktails; great service. Thanks!
The restaurant is in a lovely setting over looking the water. We had our cocktails outside and felt like we were on vacation. Appetizers were delicious. We all ordered different entree’s and thought each one was wonderful. I loved the Arctic Char and my husband enjoyed the seafood bowl!
Thomas was great! We had a phenomenal time!!
the food was so, so good. Oh, my goodness, I can taste it now. Can't wait until the next time we go. I think this is a hidden gem, ...for sure! Ya gotta go...at least once in your life!
Loved the design vibe, food, service and overall ‘feel’ lots more to try on the menu, so will be back for seconds.
I had an event at Rye Street s month ago which was spectacular. Last Saturday was disappointing. We wanted an outside table, and while we got one it took much longer than it needed to despite the fact that tables were open. There was a rigidity about the staff that delayed our being seated. I also had experienced some of that rigidity when planning my event. That needs to be corrected. I had bragged about their ribs which I've had twice before and think that they are the best on the east coast. They were not on the menu, but were replaced by a pork dinner which was far too busy and the few ribs that were on it were just average. Sometimes in my opinion chefs get too creative and ruin a good thing. That was my experience on Saturday. Sometimes chefs should follow the time honored adage," if it's not broke dont fix it." This has been a spectacular restaurant, but it's not easy for most of us to get to. They should be more accommodating all of the time, recognize what works, and get creative with items that don't. Otherwise, sadly I dont think that they will make it
Great food and service. Only concern - was noisy so hard to converse.
Loved the artichoke appetizer addition! Glad I finally went for The Coast. Cocktails great as always!
One of the best meal I have had this year. Amazing food and service!
It was almost laughable how bad the service was. First, the hostess said it would be an hour and a half wait for a table of two on a Tuesday at 7:30 (admittedly crowded but open tables were visible). Then I went on Open Table app and immediately made a reservation for 7:30. When I went back to the hostess to ask why she originally told me there'd be a wait, she shrugged it off and said, "just what the system said." Once seated, the manager took our drink order (beer and bourbon, no mixed drinks). 20-minutes later, the waitress finally came to take our dinner order. 15-minutes after that, we asked her to check on our drinks which still had not arrived. The manager came over again and said the ticket printer at the bar was broken, BUT other tables around us were receiving their drinks. He also inappropriately laughed and said, "you'd think we'd serve bourbon faster at a distillery" instead of apologizing for LONG wait (you'd think he would offer to comp us). The waitress maybe checked on us twice during the entire evening but it was always at the wrong time: "here are extra sharing plates for your appetizer...oh I see that you have already finished."
Then there was a rather larger crew of other random kitchen runners dropping things off and picking up dishes and mixing up our order with the table next to ours. The poor service seemed to be linked to this distributed approach; no single person was responsible for our table so everyone passed the buck. The alternating pairs of kitchen runners per course did not mean more attention but rather the opposite.
We really enjoyed our Saturday night at Rye Street Tavern. The view and the restaurant are both gorgeous. We played corn hole while enjoying their delicious cocktail.
Food was high quality. We loved the grilled artichoke-what a fun dish to have over a great conversation. Seafood bake was delightful. The clams matched perfectly with cherry tomatoes. All other seafoods were fresh. The only thing we didn’t like was the Blue crab cocktail - too salty, couldn’t taste the crab meat.
