Great service and the Fried Chicken was amazing!!!
Amazing banana cream pie!!
We have eaten at Rye Leawood several times. The service and ambiance are what keep bringing us back, as both are always excellent, but we have repeatedly found ourselves disappointed in the food. On this occasion, we shared the wedge, which was yummy, but huge and of course the dinner rolls and cornbread. Dinner rolls are awesome but cornbread is unfortunately the dry, crumbly kind (I prefer mine moist). Husband had the quail, and I the fried chicken with a side of mashed potatoes and carrots. The quail was good, chicken and sides just so-so. Chicken breading was rather dry and could have been salted a tad more. The mashed potatoes and veggie weren't anything spectacular. For $34 for the chicken and two sides, it was just underwhelming. It would have been nice if they offered half portions for sides. We didn't bother with a dessert because we've tried their pies in the past (incl. the banana cream and mokan) and again they're not our favorite. This is a restaurant that we want to love, but the menu options have yet to blow us away. I'm a big fan of bluestem and am always hoping for that caliber of food when we dine at rye, and it just isn't there. And at this price point, there are other establishments we'd prefer to visit in Leawood/OP.
The food is really good, but it is pricey. So more of a special occasion place. Must try the deviled eggs
The food at Rye was excellent, as always; however, service is a bit hit or miss. The two simple changes we requested were both wrong - one was ignored, while the other request was strangely executed (put both side items on the side came out one layered underneath the other on one plate). The other thing was our entrees took a very long time. Appetizer cleared, salad cleared, drinks refilled (too often), then nothing for a long, long while (I started noticing at a half hour). The table next to us had one group cleared out and a new group seated and finished before we got the entrees. When food did appear, my husband's was lukewarm and mine was too hot to eat. That all says problem in the kitchen.
It's not like we won't be back. The food is good and the location is convenient, but a restaurant that prides itself on doing things just so missed the mark on this one.
Service and Food were excellent
Found it a little overpriced for what you got
Great food. Great whiskey list, if a little overpriced.
I’ve been to Rye twice now and loved it both times. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The first time we went, we didn’t have reservations and the hostess saved us a spot at the chef’s table until we got there. The second time was for my birthday and our waiter was attentive, friendly, and had great wine suggestions. I had the salmon with a side of Mac&cheese. Possibly the best salmon I’ve had in Kansas. We also had the crab cake hush puppies which were just fantastic and the pickled veggies which were surprisingly light and tasty as well. You cannot miss the dessert here! Since it was my birthday, they put a candle on my dish, very cool and classy. My only issue was how loud it was. It was nice to have the group at a round table, but I couldn’t hear the people across from me. Also must get reservations in advance. We went on a Wednesday night and they were completely full.
It was my first time to the restaurant. I went on steak night. It was amazing there are so many choices of steak and sides they are seemed wonderful. Our Waitress Katherine was so helpful with the wine selection as well as the entree selection. She was even kind enough to laugh at few of our jokes. The service and meal were both excellent. I will definitely be back to try the chicken that everyone raves about. I had the Ribeye and it was very tender and flavorful. The sides are sizeable enough to share. So far this is Kansas City's best kept Steakhouse secret.
The food was excellent as always. My only complaint was that despite making a reservation, the host still made us and several other parties wait. Defeats the purpose of making a reservation. Despite that, it was still a positive experience and our waiter did a fantastic job
Why ask if the occasion is a special event, such as an anniversary? Rye didn't do anything to recognize it. I wouldn't call our table particularly special and certainly not romantic. The place is loud and not really spacious. Good for casual groups.
Food was good not great. Excellent service but just wasn't enough to get me to come back.
It was a wonderful experience. Food was delicious.
Food was good and the service was horrible. He was not attentive or friendly. We had a hair in the food and the manager did come over after telling the server. The server appeared to be annoyed to the fact that we were bothered with hair in our food.
I love Rye! This is my third time. The quality and service are amazing. I always bring out of town guests here.
Rye is a fantastic place for lunch or dinner. The fried chicken is the best in the city. Don't leave without a piece of lemon pie. It's also the best in the city. The staff is friendly and the attention to detail is great. Make a reservation as it gets busy during the lunch and dinner hours! Highly recommended!
Fried chicken was amazing!
Our server Bradon was very attentive, even with the strong winds outside.
Second trip to this Rye location and first time inside. Remember the first visit as being just OK (most memorable thing about that outdoor dining was terrible wind-tunnel effect on the patio).
This trip OK -- in other words, not memorable. Waitress very good but food was nothing special, expect for brussels sprouts -- those were outstanding!
Salmon OK; shrimp and grits different from most I've had but OK; wedge salads ordered by other diners at table looked really good; man with pork chop pronounced it good. Woman with white bean soup thought good. Breads served were OK except cornbread, which was inferior to cornbread we had recently at a truckstop (!).
All-in-all, nothing horrible but nothing wonderful either, except for brussels sprouts. Wouldn't say value was any more than fair and am not in big yank to return. Probably would not have returned this time if other restaurant choices had been available -- this was a last-minute outing.
Food was amazing! Our server was fantastic. He knew the food and drink menu really well and was extremely helpful.
Service was slow - had been seated for an hour and a half when main arrived. Manager was aware of problem before main was served - he had told our table that the our order was being "plated". Side that I ordered was unavailable. Chicken wings were dry. When manager followed up, he was told the dinner was "OK", and then he became surly. When we finished meal, manager delivered check and said he had taken 25% off. Notation on check was "HIGH TICKET TIME". Obviously, there was some problem that night - as we witnessed about patron in a heated discussion with the manager as we went out the door. But, it was a Monday...
The only downfall that I had, was the noise level was a little high. Not to the point of that I would not recommend it to anybody. We did enjoy the evening.
Rye is always wonderful.
The patio is especially nice when the weather cooperates.
Rye has the best drink menu around! They also have the crispiest and tastiest fried chicken and excellent salads and sides!
Great evening. Food & service were wonderful
Food is always very good but getting expensive. All steaks $50+. Also, corkage fee if you want to bring in your own bottle is $35. Highest in the city. Will I go back ... Of course ... But not as often.
Great venue, with attentive service and warm atmosphere. The food presentation was creative and interesting. Our visit was business, but it would be a great gathering place with friends. Allow time to locate on first visit as the place is tucked away.
Rye always delivers excellent food. The deviled eggs, spinach salad, steak tartare, and fried chicken were excellent. However, I dine and entertain clients often. Wine is an important accompaniment. Unfortunately Rye wine pricing is exceptionally high. The markup philosophy is certainly on the high side by comparison to similar restaurants. Wines I know well; $13/bottle retail for $49 (3.8X); $20 retail going for $66; $16 retail for $54 (at a restaurant just down the street this one goes for $44). Otherwise the restaurant is fairly priced; wine value is the outlier. More wine would be sold with a more fair approach to pricing wines.
Pretty Good. Could be Awesome.... maybe a off night.
Friends were in town and we wanted to take them to our favorite spot!
Rye made a very favorable impression on our guests. A very good choice for convivial conversation. (The real struggle is choosing between banana cream or lemon meringue)
Good food, very loud.
Very good atmosphere, helpful servers, good menu and very nice bar. You must try the fried chicken as it is the most delicious.
Good food with a nice presentation. Clark was a great server.
Nice waitstaff and good ambiance for catching up with friends
Rye-Leawood is one of our favorite restaurants. We have tried Rye on the Plaza and the offerings are not as good and the service not up to par. We have had a different waiter/waitress each time we have been there and all have been terrific. The waitress we had Saturday night was excellent.
My favorite entree is the Cobia, wood grilled. I have not seen this offered in any other restaurant in KC. I am a saltwater fisherman and have caught these fish several times in the Gulf of Mexico.
Great atmosphere, excellent service, and terrific food. What more could you ask?
Best cocktails around! Our server was very helpful in suggestions and our food was delicious! Who knew Brussels sprouts could taste so good?!
Great food and location
Ok but Nothing Exceptional... 3rd time giving Rye/Leawood a try in the past couple years and walked away with the same feeling as before — food nothing special and service excellent. Crab fritters well prepared w a spicy aioli that gave a nice pop of flavor. Good wine list and servers exceptional. They have their timing down! Nothing memorable or standout w the menu overall and somewhat pricey for most offerings.
The quality of Rye’s food and service never disappoints. When weather is warm enough to dine outside, Rye is hard to beat. Winter dinner leaves a bit to be desired as the restaurant is a bit noisy, and unless seated in one of the corners, ambiance is lacking. Love it never-the-less.
