Rye - Leawood Ratings and Reviews
Truly had no idea what to expect and had been meaning to try it for some time. We were not disappointed at all. The food was absolutely delicious (I had a pasta dish that immediately became one of my top favorites ever), the wait staff was wonderful and the dessert was amazing. If I could've gotten away with licking the plates clean, I totally would have. Thank you, Rye. It was a wonderful experience.
We ate here on a Friday night so it was busy. I had the Kansas Manhattan because it is soo good. We started with blue crab hushpuppies and they were a little dry but very good. I had the butternut squash soup and it was delicious. My companion had shrimp and grits because he loves them here, and i had the grilled cobia which was a nicely sized piece of fish grilled perfectly. Parking is a surface lot, so it's pretty easy and convenient. There is a decent selection of wines by the glass. Our server was very professional as is everyone here. This restaurant gets noisy when it is busy, so be advised if that matters to you. My companion and i don't mind, but conversation in large groups could be an issue.
This is my husband's favorite restaurant and we went there for his birthday. We had the blue crab hush puppies for an appetizer, which was delicious! We both enjoyed the fried chicken as an entree and he loved the mashed potatoes while I thought the spaghetti squash side was flavorful and perfectly cooked. It's for those who enjoy a creamy, garlic flavor. I've heard the steaks are phenomenal but I haven't tried them yet. Highly recommend!!
As always, the cocktails were excellent. The hanger steak and sort rib pasta were very good. The carrots in the chicken and dumplings were very undercooked and the dish needed more seasoning. It was not a good selection. The bourbon cake was very disappointing. It was bone dry. Two rounds were included in the serving, but only half of one was eaten.
While I always enjoy the food, this was our first time coming for a celebration and to be frank, we were quite disappointed by the utter lack of appreciation and celebration. It’s not that I need a free desert, but it is nice to have an establishment show appreciation and make you feel special. Instead we were told that could ‘try to locate a candle to put on a purchased desert.’ Ummmmmm, ok.
Went on a very busy Friday evening. Our reservation was handled very well and we had no
problems with seating on time. Our server was excellent. The food was generally very good and
the pheasant special (two of us had it) was great. My wedge salad was very good. My only problem was cooked broccoli on my plate was stone cold. Our drink service was very good as well. Lots of great wine choices. For such a very busy evening I was struck by how the staff managed the 'onslaught'. Rye will stay one of our favorites.
We decided to go to Rye for New Years Eve instead of dressing up and going out fancy. Was a prefect choice......We had a late reservations (830pm) and restaurant was full but comfortable. The staff as really friendly and recommended great wine selections. try the BBQ shrimp or the chicken livers as starters......wedge salad was the best .....nice an cold and fresh .....double pork chop was the best and my partner had the all white friend chicken with bacon mac and cheese and Brussel sprouts.... we both wanted dessert but were to full to eat dessert.
BTW ......we took two pieces of chicken home and had it last night (two days later) and it was still fresh tasty and moist even cold.
The pace felt rushed on New Year's Eve. Our appetizer came out minutes after ordering and the salads were served before we finished the appetizer. Steaks came out as soon as the salad plates were cleared. We wanted to order red wine to accompany the steaks but things were moving so fast that we hadn't even finished our cocktails. When we were ready for red wine, things must have gotten busy because it didn't come to the table until the steaks were gone. But the food was good; my husband really liked the green beans and that was the best banana cream pie I've ever had. As steaks go, they were fine. We liked that the price included a salad and one side. The cocktails were creative but not gimmicky and well made.
We visit Rye often, and it is always consistently good. The bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly. They remember repeat customers, which is hard to find in Kansas. My husband had the pasta with short rib, it was amazing. I had the salmon with black rice and it is always great.
Great food, we had an early New Year's eve dinner here. Everything was great aside from our server going a bit overboard on inspecting our ID's. I totally realize that they could get in huge trouble if they served to underage people alcohol, but in our group nobody was under 25. We all have out of state licenses because we've just moved here in August and had our friends from Alabama with us, but the 6 minute inspection/holding them up to the light/questioning birth dates and addresses was really odd and threw us off for the duration of our meal... we'll probably be back but we know what female server to avoid.
One of our favorite places to dine. We have taken many friends here to introduce them to Rye. The menu has something for everyone. The service has always been above our expectations.
Our Christmas Eve was again excellent, as we expect and receive from Rye and their staff. Thanks again.
We've been a fan of Rye for a while. Last visit, not as great as usual. Dinner rolls were cold, corn muffin dry, chops needed a side-potatoes perhaps, pickles lacked flavor. Service was very good. We seem to have been seated in a conference room annex-screen space on the wall? Little things matter I guess. May try you again sometime....
This is our second time to eat here. The food was once again excellent. My concern was seating and noise. I told them in my notes it was our anniversary and would like a nice seating area. We were put in back room even though we had reservations. We were in the back by a cold window. There were five men seated at the table next to us and they were so loud we couldn’t even talk at times. Food was good but not a good overall anniversary experience. I just expect more care at a restaurant like this when it is a special occasion. Disappointed with overall experience.
Chicken has to be the best ever. And roasted garlic mashed potatoes are to die fo.
One note. Our luncheon group (about 20 to 25) has tried several time to make reservations and was told we had to reserve a private room with a rather high charge. Our group does not do that, but it would be nice to have our luncheon there. We have been to most all good restaurants in area and have been nicely accommodated. YaYas had thar same regulation but now has relaxed this direction and we've been there several times.
