Rye - Leawood
Steak Night is an amazing value and great food. SO good. Bring back the old way you cooked the fries, tho...they were MUCH better!
The mussels are to die for. Very well done. My steak, as usual, was great. Rye is the only place I will eat steak, pricey but well worth the price. I would prefer slices of beets in my salad, rather than chunks, but that's a personal preference. Our waiter, Matthew was great. He was attentive but not pushy. Courses were timed well. He went out of his way to make our even relaxing and fun. I wish there were a less "rich" dessert. Maybe a simple, rustic apple tart? I'll be back.
Food was great. Worst part of the evening was a family that was sat by us needed to use their flashlights on their phones to read the menu, thus shining the lights directly in our faces. If it wasn’t for that the evening meal would have been wonderful.
The goat cheese and bread was good. I got the shrimp and grits which was okay simply because it wasn’t made in a traditional way. It had bbq beef on it too - which was weird. Everything else was great!
Love being outside. Not the same since the apartments/condos are next door, but still love it. Service was excellent!
Good service, very small side dishes
Waiter was so good were laughing about old times and he knew our 70's music and what we did when we were in high school and the 30yrs old couldn't believe it.
He is just great. Everytime he came by with our food, I ask him do you remember doing this, and the answer was also yes.
It was a great night for all of us and a great waiter
Chicken and veggie bucatini and best fried chicken in town were delicious! Sean provided excellent friendly & professional service. Lemon meringue pie is fabulous
This place is too loud. The service is slow. They seem to run out of food regularly as well. The quality of the food is ok.
Amazing service from our waiter, Matthew. He was very knowledgeable, made great suggestions, and was always available for us. Food was also delicious. Entire restaurant was beautifully done. Great experience overall!!
Great drinks and amazing food. Came here with another couple and we were all please to say the least.
Food and service is always excellent and keeps me coming back. Thank you!
The food was excellent the service was deplorable. The hostess were nice but seemed a little stressed.
It was a special occasion and we had another couple with us and the waitress was rude. It was embarrassing. I'm afraid I will not dine her again due to the treatment. The food was exceptionally good however.
We should have know we would be disappointed when the hostess did not say one word to us when seating us. No eye contact. No smile. She just set the tone for a disappointing meal.
I ordered the 3 piece chicken meal and told my wife, if you put this in a KFC bucket you wouldn't know any difference.
My wife ordered the shrimp, pulled pork and quinoa meal which was very nice I must say.
We had planned on having a couple slices of pie for dessert but with the uninspiring chicken and hostess starting the experience we were ready to end our Rye time.
We had a terrible experience with the service. They were all rude and unprofessional.
We always enjoy our experience at Rue and this was no exception. The coconut cream pie is a MUST!
The noise level from a nearby table of 12 shrieking women at a birthday party was EXCESSIVE!
Excellent food and service.
Our server was exceptional and the food was terrific.
Consistently good food and service makes Rye/Leawood one of our favorite restaurants. Noise level very high but NCAA tournament playing on screens in bar area good reason for the excitement. Would recommend to anyone who asks.
I ate dinner at Rye twice last week, once for business and once with family. Rye has a great staff who are friendly, helpful and fun. Our waiter for the business dinner saw me with the family and came over just to say hello. Great food--the best steak in town, wonderful apps, sides and desserts with an interesting wine list.
Great food and service.
Our food was delicious - except for the fact that the pork chops were not thoroughly cooked and gave us an upset stomach for two days.
Great service, steak cooked to perfection. Bread (rolls) looked like they came from a package and not warm. Noisy, but not as bad as last visit. Monday night steak night is a good deal.
My wife had the eggs benedict which were very good. I had the Rye breakfast. The hash browns were some kind of a "pressed potato square" and the sausage was made from "mystery meat" with no taste. The waitress never came around to offer refills on our coffee. Even with empty tables, it appeared that they wanted us to eat, hurry up, and leave.
The food is amazing! Ordered fish both times I have been to the Rye and it is fantastic! Tried friends items and also fantastic. Highly recommend. Can't wait until it the weather allows for outdoor eating. Dining room is dark that is my only complaint but most restaurants are dark.
Enjoyed the food and service but very, very noisy. Difficult to even carry on a conversation.
Server was attentive and place is always great and reliable. Food was delicious (even though it was cold). Will go again.
Excellent food. Orders were mostly correct.
We sat outside on the patio and it was great! A little quieter outside. I did feel as if our waiter wasn't efficient as we waited a long time in between arrival, drinks, ordering as the wait staff just wasn't around. Once the food order was placed, service was quick. The food tasted good but my fried chicken sandwich was rather greasy and bun was soggy before finishing half. So overall, the place is nice and have been plenty of times to say that they generally do a good job. My downfall this visit was just with wait staff and new item that I tried. I will continue going as I feel this hopefully is just a one-time occurance.
Great food. Great service. A little noisy but definitely will be back.
So imagine that you have a friend visiting from Arizona and you wanted to take them to a restaurant that best demonstrates the quintessential Midwestern Restaurant menu at its very, very finest: you'd take them to Rye. Since its opening, this has been my go-to restaurant when entertaining out-of-town business guests as the food is incredible, the atmosphere is far from stuffy, and the service is above board. Nearly everything prepared is sourced from local farms and leading the charge in the kitchen are the James Beard Award winning duo of Colby and Megan Garrelts, who've exchanged the white table cloths of Blue Stem (their OTHER amazing restaurant) for hard wood tables and whiskey.
You should start your evening at the bar, which is ever so-slightly reminiscent of an old west saloon, sprawling from one end of the room to the other and dive into perhaps the best array of american whiskey in the city. I generally enjoy a pre-dinner sazerac, to toast restaurant's namesake. Always perfect. And while their whiskey/spirit list is immense and impressive, their wine list isn't as deep. You'll absolutely find something that'll pair perfectly with whatever you choose, but it's not a 10 pager that you might find in other steak houses.
The menu focuses on what's comfortable to a Midwesterner: Farm fresh fried chicken. Dry aged steaks grilled perfectly over a blends of pecan and white oak. Cheesy grits. Lamb. Pork chops. Roasted Brussels sprouts. Trout. Homemade pies. I've yet to try something that's left me thinking, it was just okay.
Note: bring your pocketbook if you're going to venture into dry-aged steak land. Those run a bit on the pricey side, but are worth the splurge as you're going to get a steak that's arguably the best in Kansas City and will be cooked to perfection.
I've probably been to Rye 10-12 times over the last couple of years...about near perfect every time, which is another trait us Mid-westerners appreciate: consistency. I'll be going back.
We didn’t realize Monday’s are Steak night at Rye. What a great deal that was. Way too much for 1 person to eat but I have 2 more meals in my refrigerator.
Our server was outstanding. Bartender was good too. All in all very good. Food was prepared perfectly.
Love this place. Best fried chicken in KC!
Well the one time we decide to go on a Saturday evening, the fire alarm goes off at the restaurant. Mgmt tells waiters their claims of no fire, just a triggered alarm. Fire department arrives, yet it takes over 20 more minutes to stop the blaring sirens. Many tables leave prematurely, possibly not even paying considering how slow the staff was operating that evening. My table, 2 couples in their 30’s and 40’s, decided to stay through it all. Mgmt never comes to the table, no apologies, nothing. Food was great but their approach to this dismal meal was abysmal, so we couldn’t enjoy the food nor the company. Our server, JT, was pleasant, but for him and everyone else, it was like they were used to alarms going off daily and they were ok with it. Sheesh! Imagine how they would react if the place actually had an emergency. Not that I’ll be there. So many other overpriced restaurants to choose from in that area; why go to one that doesn’t give a crispy duck about their own patrons?
Only issue was I had put in Open Table res that it was a birthday so I did not want to say it infront of my husband. So it could be a surprise but it was never said to us. Even when we checked in, no Happy Bday
We loved Rye! Best fried chicken around! Always have a great meal!
We eat at rye quite a lot and are rarely disappointed. That is why we keep coming back. And, my wife loves the salmon.
Never been disappointed here. Kind of pricey, but always a good experience.
Holly was excellent - salmon was perfect . About my 100th time and will go back for 101
