Ryan's Chef creates a tantalizing selection of appetizers such as jumbo lump crabmeat, steamed mussels in garlic butter and white wine, and oysters Rockefeller. Entrees range from thick, juicy steaks and prime rib to the finest grilled fresh fish and live Maine lobster. Choose from the menu or a superb selection of specials offered nightly. Add a cappuccino and a freshly made dessert to seal the dining experience.
The restaurant has been locally owned and under the same management since 1981. Ryan's has been awarded the Wine Spectator's "Award of Excellence" and is often featured in national publications. Recently awarded the DiRoNa Award for Distinctive Fine Dining
Took my wife for her birthday and had an outstanding night. James was our server and we wanted for nothing. Thanks!
Awesome food and great service. The prime fillet of Oscar was one of the best I’ve ever had
Cold icy evening for my birthday dinner. We were in town to visit a couple wineries and the wife picked this spot for my dinner. From start to finish, Ryan’s has got it down to nearly perfect. Every course was perfect. Served timely and appropriate. The entrees were wonderful. Dessert and wine perfect. The seasonal berry dessert was a highlight of the dinner. Even the decaf coffee was very good. Our waiter, Matt, was wonderful and did a superb job with dinner. Excellent and we will go back when we are up that way again.
The steaks we had were wonderful & the service was excellent we will definitely come back soon
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary here. We were seated in an area away from other patrons, which we liked. It seemed they do this for those celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Service was spot-on, but the food left much to be desired. The pita served with the dip was not toasted enough and they give you crackers. As many times we have ordered dips, we've never received crackers. This aspect made it seems less upscale. We would have been fine with just pitas. The dip itself contained large chunks of artichoke in it, which made it very hard to "dip". My wife ordered scallops, which were seasoned well, but a bit overdone. I had the shrimp and grits which was good, but drenched in sauce with very little grits. We both had salads, which were very good, but it IS a salad. I also ordered bourbon sweet potato mash which was very lackluster. The best part was they gave us premium champagne and chocolate cake on the house. Both of those were phenomenal. Our waitress also took our picture which was a huge plus for us. Overall, it was a great experience and you can't beat the ambiance for the area. However, for the price you would expect better food and a little more options. I think we may try somewhere else on our next anniversary and will not be making this an annual event.
A bit pricey. 45 $ Steak was probably on par with what you would get for 25 bucks elsewhere. Very nice ambiance. Great appetizers. Awesome wine list.
Great atmosphere, great food. Seasonal menu gives you rotating options so you never have to order the same thing to get awesome food!
We had dinner at Ryan's January 5. Party of four, celebrating my birthday.
The other two friends eat out often. but had never been to Ryan's. (My date and I had been there a number of times.) They're both gourmet cooks. The wife is an executive who is in the air, traveling somewhere, every week. She's more likely than not, to have eaten at a five-star restaurant today, in any large American city you want to name.
Oh. And my date, also, is a gourmet cook who traveled widely before she retired.
I include all this detail to make a point: They know what good food is; they know what good service is; they know what a good restaurant is. I worried that I might have praised Ryan's too much.
For appetizers, we two men had Oysters Rockefeller. Superb. The ladies shared a serving of Ahi Tuna Tartare. My date said she'd have been happy to eat two servings and call it a meal.
The wine--Marchesi di Barolo 'Zagara' Moscato d'Asti--was delightful and reasonably priced.
My date said her Shrimp and Grits were the best she'd ever eaten. The other male had the Steak Au Poivre. He said he'd come back again just for that. (It will be my choice next time, also.)
My date and I skipped dessert, although we tasted theirs. They shared the Frozen Banana Fosters Caramel Pie. I'll have that next time, too.
Our waiter, David, was attentive but not intrusive.
Verdict: Our friends now have a new favorite local restaurant. We'll all be back.
Great place for us to celebrate special occasions. Friendly staff & great food
Love this place - great atmosphere and an amazing steak.
Great dinner, always a wonderful meal. Our reservations were later and it seemed rushed and not the usual experience, but still lovely.
We just had a delightful dinner and birthday party for my beautiful wife. The steaks were great and the service flawless! We WILL be back and highly recommend to lovers of fine meat and fish.
I have been going to Ryan's for 30 years and every visit is awesome. The food, atmosphere and wait staff make it special every time. Whether it was for birthday celebrations, prom, Christmas parties - it is my favorite restaurant in Winston-Salem.
Always reliable. Best beef in town. Wish they would bring back the chocolate chip pie!
Being in Ryan's on New Year's Eve is quite a wonderful experience. Good food, great service and very pleasant atmosphere.
New years eve dinner was very good. Food was on point and Rebecca was an awesome server.
Ryan's has become a New Year Eve tradition for me and my daughter. We like to have a nice night out and a great steak.
From greeting to seating to service it is outstanding. Food was cooked to perfection and the taste and texture was outstanding. The server was so kind and accommodating and the overall atmosphere was wonderful on a New Years Eve. To find the quietness to review the past year and share thoughts for the new year was so wonderful. Thanks for making our New Years Eve Special.
Celebrated with siblings and mom, always a treat to enjoy a dinner at Ryans!
Probably the best food and dining experience we have had in a dozen years. Highly recommended!
We enjoyed a nice relaxing dinner. Service was perfect
We took out of town guests there for an after Christmas celebration and they were delighted.
Excellent evening meal. As always, the food was delicious and my husband thinks the steak is the best in WS!
Such a fabulous feast for all the senses. The surroundings were well appointed, ambience inviting, food was absolutely delightful.... waitstaff was impeccable!! .... frozen Bananas Foster..... oohh la la! I eat gluten free and was pleased to find that very few menu items contained gluten and if it was present, it was denoted. WIll be back for special occasions!
Had a great dinner for my family on Saturday the 22nd
Ryan's has been a long time favorite, but they were really ON.
I hope they make the tomato basil soup with goat cheese a regular item....
Everything excellent EXCEPT the grounds need cleaning - front and back.
Great restaurant, love the place, the food is excellent. They should take
the salt and pepper shakers off the tables, everything is seasoned perfectly.
only slight complaint was my coffee was lukewarm. I could have asked for another
cup but I didn't, my bad.
Ryan’s is always reliably excellent! We have never tired of it in 30 years of great meals there.
Great service and wonderful food. The truffle fries were out of this world
My wife andI enjoyed our anniversary celebration at Ryan’s. The food was phenomenal as always and the drinks were amazing!
I never had a bad meal at Ryan's. My go to place when I am in town visiting my sister.
Will be back !!!
Food was awesome as always! Our waiter, Benjamin was the bomb!!
We love coming to Ryan’s! We can always count on superb service, food, and ambiance.
Celebrated our 31st Anniversary with a wonderful meal and great atmosphere. Our server was very good. A great place to celebrate most any special occasion. We will be back and spread the word.
OUR FAVORITE PLACE, for every occasion. We take all our guest here
Service and food were excellent.
Our waitress Rachel was the best! She was very attentive to our needs!
Once again we visited Ryan's for a special dinner this time celebrating my mother's 98th birthday. The staff was very helpful in changing my reservation to an earlier time to accommodate my mother's eating preference that was originally available. After getting the earlier time, the dining experience was outstanding so everyone enjoyed themselves especially the birthday girl.
Incredible shrimp cocktail, crab bisque , lamb and steak —- food , service and ambiance superior as usual!!
