Ryan's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
This is an outstanding restaurant that I highly recommend. If you use Open Table a lot, you'll realize that there is a big difference between a 4.4 and a 4.5 and, at the upper range, a 4.7. This place is a 5 -- the only restaurant that has earned that from me. Unpretentious, accommodating, and delicious. I've been twice (I am not local), and it was a five both times, five years apart.
The service and food were excellent. It was rather noisy but it was 8pm on a Friday. We especially enjoyed the pacing of our meal. I hate it when your drinks don’t arrive until your appetizer and your meal arrives before you’ve finished your app. We had a very relaxing, enjoyable meal with no pressure to vacate the table so they could get someone else in there. Kudos!
Ryan's Restaurant was recommended to us for our 25th wedding anniversary, so we decided to make reservations. Bad mistake, we could have gotten better food and better service at LongHorn Steak House at half the price. The waitress messed up our steak order so she took them back and when they came back to us they were like shoe leather. We did not enjoy our 25th wedding anniversary meal and was very disappointed in where we chose to go and what we paid.
We had not been to Ryan's in over 35 years. Fortunately, Ryan's has maintained an excellent level of quality and service. Both of the appetizers and entrees we ordered we're well prepared and delicious. The service, as in the past, was top notch. Nice to see such long term, consistent excellence in the restaurant business.
We have been out of state for 30 years and recently moved "home" to Winston-Salem. When we happily discovered that Ryan's is still here, a plan to dine was immediate on the to do list.
We had early reservations & were very pleased with service and quiet which allowed conversation. Arugula salad was off the charts wonderful and a MAJOR bargain at $5!!
We had beef tips & scallop entrees - both very good but compared too the salad, more expensive than our usual (it was our 48th anniversary so a "splurge" was in order!) And the the wonderful chocolate cake was a gift.
Thank you for a memorable evening!
Ryan's is not fine dining! It's a high-end and elegant meat-and-potatoes place. For meat and potatoes, you won't do better anywhere in the area. My friend and I both had the filet mignon, both of which were superb and expertly cooked to our liking. If I have a complaint, it would be the bread, which seemed ordinary and dull to a true bread lover. That may have something to do with local tastes, since Winston-Salem is a provincial town that knows its meat and potatoes but not its bread. If I were Ryan's, I'd offer a choice of some truly good sourdough bread, served warm.
Ryan's is an established restaurant in Winston-Salem, but it has kept up with the times. The menu is constantly updated. The grouper that I had was absolutely divine. Others in our party had duck and steak and they raved about their dishes. The service is impeccable. Don't miss a wonderful meal. If possible, try to get a table in the back room near the fireplace.
Located in a quant out of the way area. Wife had Chilean Sea Bass and I had a Ribeye and both were amazing. Waitress provided excellent service and added extra surprise take home cake since we were first time visitors. We will be returning especially for special occasions.
Celebrated a big birthday for my wife along with our son and his girlfriend and had a great time. Ryan's has delicious appetizers so we had to have the bacon wrapped scallops and then enjoyed their outstanding steaks. Also made good use of their extensive wine list for an outstanding evening.
The food was excellent as usual. However, one member of our party was served a glass of wine that was so full of sediment that half of the glass was undrinkable. Considering the price of a glass of wine at Ryan's, the entire glass should be drinkable. That level of service is unacceptable.
We've been to Ryan's four times now, all with groups (6-8 people) for either WFU Parent's Weekend or family get together. Each time we have had a great meal with good service. Our most recent visit was no exception and this time the service was even better than in the past...attentive, knowledgeable, friendly and genuine concern that all was going well at our table. Our waiter was very knowledgeable regarding the menu and made great recommendations. Highlights were the prime rib, filet, halibut (special) and salmon. Tuna tartar app was good but had too many (fried) chips with it. Would have preferred something lighter and less oily. Crab cake app was good but small. Brussel sprouts and potato sides were tasty. Overall, a good dining experience and we will return!
Had dinner for Wake Parent's weekend. We had an incredible meal. The Mahi was delicious...too many choices that we wanted :) One suggestion .... perhaps a nicer bottle of Cab or Blend for glass option? EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT THOUGH!!! And we will definitely be back. Thanks so much.
Ryan’s was always a favorite when We were in college so now that we are visiting our child in college we chose to treat him to the experience. The food was delicious, server very attentive and the atmosphere was lively but not too loud. We will keep this restaurant on our list.
My wife insisted we go someplace nice for my birthday, i'm glad we did, the bacon wrapped scallops were very good, my filet and my wife's beef tips were both cooked perfectly and delicious. The service was excellent, not too slow, not too fast. Desert was excellent. We will go back again.
