Translating literally to 'as you wish', the name Ruyi derives from a Chinese heirloom symbolising power and good fortune.

A union of beautifully presented Chinese food, an impressive wine list, exceptional design and modern restaurant culture.

Working closely with renowned design studio, Hecker Guthrie and artisanal suppliers, Ruyi is a combination of premium food, wine and atmosphere. The interior palate is a very specific nod to traditional Chinese crimson and jade colours, in a modern context with its oxblood and sage tones.

Designer Paul Hecker was mindful of the Ruyi’s physical location and its proximity to other restaurants serving Chinese cuisine, so the fit out needed to have a sense of simplicity and earthiness to compliment this. We didn’t want the design to scream China; instead we wanted to subtly hint at the distinctly Asian influence,” says Hecker.

    Some real star dishes- kingfish ceviche, lettuce cups, tofu- accompanied by great service in a modern, attractive setting unite to make this a great night out.

    A small quaint, light and bright atmosphere. Attentive staff, delicious food (best silken tofu I've ever had!) and all round good time. Maybe a tad quiet, music could be bumped up a bit, but I suppose a more relaxed atmosphere than other louder eractic locales.

    The service was incredible, all the staff were very helpful, kind and accomodating. Food and cocktails were delicious. Standout dishes were definitely the chilli wontons, wasabi and honey chicken, shao long bao and kingfish ceviche. Will definitely be back.

    Had a lovely time at Ruyi. Nice venue and tasty modern dishes. Great hidden gem to discover in the cbd.

    It is not authentic Chinese cuisine, as much as they said it was. There were 2 sittings..so we had to go to a Bar across the road before our table was available. The restaurant is very small, but I had to go to the Bar to ask if Table Service or Order at the Bar"? So obviously service was very poor. Overrated.

    Second time visiting RuYi in the last few months. Service and food impeccable. The manager recognised us straight away from our previous time visiting and was very hospitable. Would highly recommend and can’t wait to be back!

    Amazing! We had such a great evening .. opted for the Chefs choice of 3 courses which came to the table well spaced. Added on Duck in master stock and Dumplings two ways. Lovely friendly service and delicious food. Highly recommend!! Simple but very good wine selection by the glass and bottle.

    We loved Ruyi. From the moment we entered Ruyi the staff was fantastic. We are vegetarians, we chose a set menu and the food was fantastic. The staff was helpful and informative on all aspects of the menu. You should definitely go. Highly recommended.
