Our Story The goal – to guarantee a wonderful meal with authentic cuisine and fabulous margaritas, serve over 50 artisanal and ancestral mezcals, and over 100 different types of tequila brands in a vibrant unique atmosphere that boasts excellent service. Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Cuisine opened in Astoria in 2021 with such a wonderful and successful home run that a second location opened in Patchogue in March 2022. Ruta Oaxaca means “Road to Oaxaca,” a historic state in the southern part of Mexico. Mr. Castillo and his Partners are keenly focused on honoring Oaxacan culinary traditions, whose fame is derived in great part from its many varieties of moles. By legend, these ancient recipes are more than sauces, they are the very focus of the meal. Ruta Oaxaca proudly features four moles, each prepared using the Oaxacan mole recipes that have made the cuisine world famous. Excellent food, a sophisticated, subtle taste that’s clearly superior to factory-style Mexican food cranked out by so many Mexican eating establishments. Two complaints…1) A $6 charge for a small bowl of plain white rice meant to accompany most dishes I don’t know of another Mexican restaurant, on either Long Island or Manhattan, that charges for a modest portion of plain rice. 2) The noise level is often staggeringly loud…plain conversation can be an impossibility, and the volume is so loud that it actually impact your sense of taste. Be (very) prepared if you go on a busy night. Great food, unfortunate flaws in pricing and ambience.

A small restaurant. But the food was delicious and the staff makes you feel comfortable, does not rush you to seat next party. It's a good addition to the local community

This restaurant was a wonderful experience . Went here for a birthday lunch. When the waiter found out it was my birthday , he brought a complimentary dessert that my friend and I shared . Highly recommend !

We had the short ribs which were delicious. Portion was generous. The Chilean sea bass also wonderful with a generous portion of elote and the most wonderful creamy green chili corn sauce. Cocktails delicious as well
