We made reservations, The hostess gave us a seat right away. The waitress never arrived I had to ask another waitress if we can at least get water while we wait for our waitress. She brought us water right away and told us our waitress would be coming shortly. After 20min the waitress finally showed up and placed our order. I wanted the calamari appetizer but when i ask the waitress if it was spicy she informed us they were they are made with jalapeños I ordered the guacamole instead. She informed us the guacamole wasn’t spicy. I order two cocktails. The appetizer and the food came out really fast. We took a sip of our cocktails and it was super spicy. Even though we told the waitress we dont like spicy she still served us two super spicy cocktails. The tacos came appart not sure what corn they use to make them but its not the usual that you would get at any other taco place. The waitress didn’t like when we complain about the cocktails because we didn’t ask if they were spicy. We told her from the beginning that we dont like spicy thats why we didn’t get the calamari.
Great menu, cocktails and service!
Awesome first time experience, high quality food, best tacos hands down. The steak was divine. service with a smile. Clean and the guava margarita out of this world..
Really enjoyed my dinner here on November 20. Did a reposado flight of tequila along with the empanadas. Main course was the beef short ribs with coloradito mole. The mole was terrific and the beef was wonderfully tender.
Attentive service from both hostess and server. This is definitely not tex-mex nor a chimichanga thrown on a hot plate kind of place. If you venture to 31st and Broadway in Queens this is a worthwhile place to visit for an excellent meal.
Amazing food and even better staff, we drive here from our home in Brooklyn because we are such big fans.
I took a one hour ride all the way from Long Island based on a recommendation and this restaurant did not disappoint! The food was incredible and fresh and the service was fantastic. Can't say enough positive things about this restaurant! Make sure you leave room for dessert.
Server and staff hospitable, knowledgeable, thoughtful and amicable. Food delicious. Mexican street corn a bit on the saltier side, but delicious. Tacos had a lot of meat on them, so very filling.
Beautifully presented, flavorful authentic Mexican fare. My wife had an enchilada stuffed with lobster meat, shrimp, and calamari that she raved about all the way home. And very reasonably priced, given the quality and quantity of the servings. Thank you!
Really enjoyed it, first time but will be back soon for sure. Excellent cocktails, using better than expected tequila and mezcal in them, and have options for various tequila and mezcal flights. Could certainly get into trouble with all of the great choices! Really liked the entrees as well, pescado entree (market catch was Chilean sea bass), and short rib. Both highly recommended.
We were late to our reservation which they totally understood and had no problem with it 👏👏
From the moment we got there we were helped right away and we were seated outside as requested, they have outdoor set up with heat!!!!!
The appetizers were amazing! We had the choriquezo which was delicious and the chicken buñuelos with mole oxaca which was very tasteful😋😋.
The red sangria was freshly made and it was so good!
The tlayuda was amazing and the tequila/mezcal infused tiramisu was an amazing desert!
The staff is very accommodating and the food is very rich in flavor😋
Coming back again and again for the salsa alone. The depth of flavor in their sauces is the best around.
Terrific food from appetizers to dessert, some of the best Mexican I've ever had. Service was pleasant but amateurish; server had to be continually reminded of the most basic things ("More water, "we need a spoon for this") over and over, despite the place being almost empty. But the food was so good it made up for it.
The food at Ruta is fantastic. If you're going for the first time I highly recommend the Huatulco Enchilada, which is seafood (Crab/lobster, corn) and a habanero cream sauce on top. By far my favorite dish there. Chips are freshly made and ideally salted. Guacamole is fresh though next time we may get the spicy and the medium spice didn't have as much of a kick as we typically look for. Drinks are tasty and the menu for tequilas/mezcals is extensive.
This restaurant was absolutely delicious and terrific in every way. Great decor, very helpful service and the food looked stunning as it was brought to our table. Happlily, each dish tasted as good as they looked - if not better! We had heuvos rancheros - fab, and fish and pork tacos, and a mole appetizer. Can't wait to return!
As Always everything was wonderful the staff is on top of things and so gracious
This was my second time at Ruta, and we still think it’s the most delicious Mexican food around. Even the salsa and chips are beyond wonderful! This time I had chicken enchiladas in mole- perfection. My husband had huevos ranchero, the best he’s ever eaten. Plus our waiter and staff were helpful and kind.
Everything was good. The drinks were top! Must go in Astoria
wonderful service and wonderful food
Super friendly staff and very welcoming. All our orders came quickly and the food and drink was so so good. Third time here and I’d definitely recommend you visit!
It was not really what I expected the server was amazing super nice and friendly but the food was just got it. I got tacos de Cochinita Pibil they were super oily i paid 31 dollars for a mediocre steak. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if the ambiance was better but there were children running around in the outside seating. Overall really not impressed
The food was delicious. I recommend trying the tacos - you can have one fish, one shrimp and one chicken if you don’t know which one to go for. I also recommend the Palenque drink which is not on the menu. It has bourbon, pumpkin beer reduction, mezcal and mango purée. Excellent. Emilio was a great server and the ambiance is perfect for date night. Will come back soon!
As always Everything was wonderful love this place
We had an awesome Saturday lunch at Ruta Oaxaca. I’d been wanting to try it for a while since it’s always packed when I walk by, and it’s starting to pop up on lists of the best Mexican restaurants in NYC. It was great to be able to book ahead of time on Open Table. The service was warm and attentive. The food was outstanding. I had the chilaquiles with chicken and my boyfriend had the enchiladas Huatulco (with mixed seafood and habanero cream salsa). The portions were so generous that we had enough to heat up for dinner (and we switched dishes, so I can attest that both were great!) Even the complimentary chips and salsa were delicious. This is a gem in a great location in Astoria.
Second time here and I think this is one of the best authentic Mexican food place in all of Queens
food is delicious, best Mexican restaurant in Astoria.
Delicious food and the waitress was very accommodating when one of our guests was late. She didn’t rush us at all. Margaritas were strong in a delicious way!
Everything we ordered was delicious! The special guacamole with coconut and pineapple, shrimp tacos ,and fantastic chicken enchiladas in a wonderful mole sauce! Margaritas were also strong and well made! Service was charming and efficient!
Amazing every time!
Excellent and traditional Oaxacan cuisine. Friendly fantastic service. Beautiful dining space with open doors, lots of fresh air. Very organized about Covid vaccine compliance.
The traditional dishes were fantastic and definitely ask for the hot sauce. Everything is homemade including the tortillas. Absolutely fantastic and we will be back!
Our waitress, Salma, was wonderful and patient. It was our first time there and we had questions. She answered everything with such a great attitude. The food is so amazing and everyone that works there is professional and attentive. I had the short ribs entrée. Meat fell right off the bone and the puree was amazing! They have new regulars with us! The coffee flan was the perfect blend of sweet with a little bitterness from the coffee. Can't wait to go back!
This is our 4th time in this restaurant. The food & the service is very special.
We had an amazing meal at Ruta and can’t wait to go back. Every bite was delicious from the appetizers to the desserts. The brunch drinks are equally as good as the food and such a great deal!! We enjoyed every last bite and only wish we had room to eat more. The ambiance at the bar inside is great with a huge selection of tequila and mezcal, and perfectly cold beers on draft. Jose and his team are kind, attentive and beyond helpful when choosing what to eat and drink. Highly recommend Ruta and will be back very soon!!!
The whole staff made us feel welcomed and ambiance was beautiful. Mole was DELICIOUS. Thank you Jose and team for making it a wonderful evening!
Octavio is a fantastic bartender! He aces our drinks every time. We’ve been to Ruta many times (and usually leave very satisfied (and maybe a little tipsy)) but a little disappointed yesterday. The lamb chops were their daily special but not worth the $31 cost. Chops were fatty and tasteless. The spicy green salsa overwhelmed the entire dish. Stick to the tacos here - they’re the solid choice.
Excellent all around
Food, service, etc
Definitely will be back
I wanted to try everything but ran out of room for dessert. Enjoyed everything we got which included drinks, chips and salsa, ceviche, enchiladas, grilled octopus, and shrimp tacos. Service was excellent and attentive. The staff was masked and tables were spaced out.
Chef Carlos prepare the best traditional Mexican food north of Rio Grande.
Holy Mole!! We had a very nice meal with friends here. The staff was super lovely and the menu had a great variety of choices as well as some tempting specials. The portions are generous and I took half my entree home with me. The AC is a bit whimpy I do hope they fix that. But all and all a wonderful family run place with great food.
I have dined here several times and each time the food is consistently amazing. Full of flavor and interesting combinations. I recommend Ruta to anyone wanting a great Mexican restaurant.
