Rusty's Surf & Turf
Mon, Wed, Thu, Sun 5:00 pm–8:00 pm
Fri, Sat 5:00 pm–9:00 pm
My fishing buddy and I had a great experience here in October and we agreed that we'll bring our families in for dinner when we come back in spring summer 2020. We went in because of The web site plus Open Table and everything you read on their web site is accurate. Delicious ingredients, interesting recipes, and obviously prepared in a kitchen worthy of a metro location. My duck breast was the best I've ever had in a restaurant and the "house" salad before was different and really good. I've been coming to this area for 50+ years and it's great to have a place like this to come to for a serious meal.
Excellent service, food is fresh and delish, highly recommend
The food and cocktails were good (no complaints) but VERY slow. The waiter kept blaming everyone for the delay, “there are 2 bartenders I don’t know why it’s taking so long”. “ the cooks are so backed up the owner is back there cooking” And it really wasn’t that crowded.
Food was fresh, staff attentive. We’ve been to Rusty’s on several trips to Hatteras. Recommend for a nice night out.
Keith was absolutely amazing. This is our second time back while on vacation and Keith made our dining experience even better than the first time! The food is delicious and the rest of the staff is very personable!
The service and atmosphere are the best things about this place. Our appetizer of fried green tomatoes was fantastic. Sadly that was all that was edible. Everything lacked flavor, the cheese grits tasted of too much nutmeg and some other things. You couldn't taste grits or cheese. My friend's dinner had to be refired because the beef was well done instead of rare. It was still well done on the second try, so they took it off.
The hushpuppies are a box of jiffy cornbread mix. No flavor and sickeningly sweet
The kitchen didn't want to broil oysters for my plate, and said they couldn't do a combo of broiled and fried. I had asked for all broiled, which is on the menu. Our server got them to do part broiled and part fried. My plate came out with 4 scallops and 4 oysters, and bland vegetables. For $30.00.
We got dessert to take back to the hotel, for whatever reason. Still, just bad.
With as good as the service and the appetizer was, we expected more.
Just don't. Go up to Avon, and find something there.
We absolutely enjoyed the fresh and unique cuisine, and the accommodating service.
Decided to try this year and so glad we did. Food,
Was great. Homeade potato chips with sour cream dip was amazing! Waiter was good and the place was clean and owner was friendly and appreciated our business. Def will be going back. Just sad it took us so long to break from our normal dining places to go
Great service, food was really tasty and clean nicely decorated space! Would recommend
Nice spot. Food was very good. Friendly hosts
Excellent service. Our meals were delicious and incredibly fresh. We plan on visiting again before we leave
We were here a year ago and had our best meal in OBX. This year was a disappointment. Apps were good - fried green tomatoes were amazing. Dinner was another story. Half ordered the surf and turf which we had last year and was amazing pork chop and shrimp. The other half had shrimp and grits. The pork took over an hour to come out and was terribly overcooked and dry plus the whole dish was squirted with a bad BBQ saucee that made no sense and wasn't very good. Just seems ironic that we were told dinner was talking a long time because the pork chops were so thick when, in reality, they were cookibg them to the point of dryness. If they had taken them off 20 minutes earlier they might have been OK. A meat thermometer goes a long way if you can't judge doneness by touch. Shrimp and grits were good but that didn't make up for the ruined dinners that took over an hour and a half to be served. Wait staff wax lovely but management needs to step up.
We had a party of 8 and we received Excellent service and food!
Dinner with out of town guests. Food and service both get top marks!
This is a hidden gem in the southern OBX. The food is worthy of a fine dining establishment but in a relaxed atmosphere. We highly recommend it.
