I had specifically reserved a table for my first wedding anniversary with my wife. The first server, upon approaching our table, referred to my wife and I as “gentlemen”. We corrected her, and the two of us laughed it off together. For whatever reason, we had two other, different servers, both of whom referred to my wife and I as “gentlemen”.
We are forward thinking, progressive people, and not upset at the gender confusion in and of itself. However, my wife was upset at having been repeatedly identified as a man, by a total of 3 different people. She has shoulder length hair, and was wearing a dress with a cardigan. I spent a larger portion of the evening than I’d have liked comforting my wife and telling her that she doesn’t look like a man.
No apology or explanation was ever offered by any of our servers, or by management, though my wife was clearly upset.
We went into the Rustic Pelican for dinner on a Sunday. We were greeted at the front podium and were told out table would be ready at the reservation time. We were seated outside with a great view of the boats. Our server came right over and took our drink order and spirited order. We got our drinks fast. The appetizer followed quickly behind. We then ordered dinner. We split a plate because the appetizer was filling. Our dinner came out perfect!! Let me tell you the halibut is great!! Our dinner was hot and cooked just right. The entire evening was very nice and the view topped it off! What a great place to eat. I would recommend the Rusty Pelican to everyone that is looking for a perfect dinner.
Wait staff was superb. Hostess’ had a bad attitude and not pleasant people
Had a nice dinner with my in-laws from Poland. I had the swordfish off the main menu which was superb. Nice view of the water. Prices are acceptable for the ambiance provided. Service was a tad slow. But nothing to complain about. The restaurant was clearly full.
Had a birthday party of 8 guests and everything was awesome from the drinks to the food. Great service!! Will definitely go back.
Great Place. Highly Recommended. Dining Outside On The Deck Looking Out At The Water & Boats was Fabulous.
they booked about 50 people with no room. we waited 15 mins and left
To be expected busy Friday so despite a 8.15 reservation, there was a brief and tolerable wait. The ladies at the host stand handled the crowed lobby guests both with and without reservations very well. The blankets on the patio offered a very nice and thoughtful touch. What made the dining experience is not just the food and the picturesque views but our extremely knowledgeable and very impressive server Habib. The already busy manager did stop by our table for a quick visit, which sealed the deal for us. Thank you for an awesome experience. We will definitely be back.
I ordered the Hilubut special which sounded delicious and was… However had I known it was 38.50 for a lunch item I would not have ordered it. In the future they should tell you the price!
Very good food and great location...nice for any occasion
Food is excellent, seafood is their specialty, and the Servers are also excellent.
The reception desk is weak. The young girls that manage the front desk have yet to seat us in a timely manner with a reservation, even with Open Table.
And a request, ex." window table" is only a request.
One of my favorite places to eat for many years.
Terrible experience! Ruined my birthday! Never going back
Birthday dinner...dined on the patio...awesome service by Brandon!
This was our first time here. I chose this place randomly and was so happy I did. When we were taken to the patio in the evening, I was nervous about being too cold. But then there were blankets... and a heat lamp! Loved ordering the Poma Rita and getting four glasses out of the deal. The garlic bread was ridiculously delicious, as was the calamari. Ramón made great recommendations. My entire party loved our orders. We live in LA, but it was worth the drive. We shall return!
In a word "excellent!" Special birthday, and they didn't let us down. We live in Las Vegas, so we know quality eateries. But, now matter how special Vegas restaurants are, they don't have a view of a bay....at least not a real one. Could not complain about a thing. Prices are right for the quality and quantity of the food, the selection was extensive enough to fit anyone's taste and the service was outstanding. The entire waitstaff worked together as a team to see that no one was in need of anything. Even the manager was in the act, filling water glasses and being sure the guests were all taken care of. A great night!
Worst experience I could ever imagine from anyone in a service industry. We and the patrons around us were treated like cattle. Do yourself a favor and walk next door to Billy’s or Joe’s. You’ll be glad you did.
View fantastic. Decor very dated. Food mediocre. Service very good.
Great restaurant and we will be back!
Rusty Pelican has excellent cocktails and the food is delicious.
Sat outdoors. Matt was or server. He was great. Food was very good. View of Newport Harbor was nice. Overall a nice bunch.
Great! Had a reunion and loved every minute of our time spent!
Great food and great atmosphere!
Amazing Lobster. Worth MP. Great service, beautiful view. A little chilly on the patio, so bring a jacket. Highly recommend for any ocassion. 7pm dining was perfect to see both day and night view. ♥️
Food was excellent. My wife and I had the halibut. I had the macadamia nut preparation and my my wife had the lemon caper. Both were delicious. You must have the garlic bread. Service was outstanding. One of our favorite places for a Saturday evening.
Food was good and service was excellent. View was a bonus!
Always surprised how good the food is for a chain restaurant .
We chose this restaurant from a list of "good seafood in Newport Beach". It was busy, so we started at a table in the bar, and ended up staying there for the whole meal. The drinks were good and generous, the food (I had halibut special; husband munched on 3 appetizers) was quite good, clearly made in-house. We will go back when we're next in town.
Lovely view and great food! Would recommend if you are visiting the area.
Great wine selections, delicious food. I love everything on the menu.
Birthday dinner during spring break get away!
The food is very good and the service is great. The ambiance and bay view are really nice. Just a great place for good seafood!
Food selection and view was fantastic. Our server Amanda was delightful and efficient.
Formerly one of our favorite places for special occasions. Parking is always a headache, but there was room for us this time. Always busy on Sunday, so service help is always spread thin, but okay considering how busy they are. But the food had always been great. My wife and I both had crabcakes benedict with Pelican potatoes. Bread was initially served without butter. Was told whipping the butter takes time and they're working on it. It never came. Regular butter would have been infinitely better than no butter. The potatoes, usually great, were dry and tasted overcooked and seemed like they were sitting around for a long time, like cheap buffet potatoes. And the crab cakes were dry and tasteless, with hardly any hollandaise sauce. We may try it again after a suitable cooling off period, and if it's the same, that will be it. It takes 1-1/2 hours to drive there, and it's definitely not worth it for the experience we had.
Great time, very accommodating of our party of eight for Easter brunch. Place was jumping but everything was handled attentively and warmly. Everyone said it was one of their best Easters ever -- nicely done!
It was fine for a busy Easter brunch.
Easter brunch. When making the reservation, there was no indication that there would be a limited menu.
Food & pricing good, great view of back bay.
I made reservations and still had to wait about 45min. I was sat outside in the cold and they moved the heater to preference another table. My food was not done the way it was ordered! My first time there was amazing not so much this time around!
We celebrated my friends Birthday. I highly recommend making reservations! It was packed and people were waiting. I also recommend asking for seating upstairs right next to the beautiful water views! The food and drinks were amazing. The staff was awesome- Sean at he bar and especially Michelle our server. She routinely checked on us and the service was excellent!
